OSU Student Paper says Fire Tressel
The Lantern, the student paper at Ohio States, says that Tressel should be fired. http://www.thelantern.com/sports/give-tressel-the-boot-1.2083500
Money quote: "At this point OSU has given Tressel a slap on the wrist. The NCAA should break his arm."
The populace revolts against Jim "Moammar" Tressel and seeks to seize Columbus from the tyrannical control of Tressel and his henchman.
I recognize that this is a joke, but comparing Tressel to Gadhafi might be to much. One is a college football coach that broke a bunch of rules and the other is a dictator that hired mercenaries to kill his own citizens.
Since you realized it was clearly a joke, maybe you shouldn't have felt the need to reprimand me? Its kind of obvious that the situations have absolutely nothing in common.
If there is nothing is common, why make the joke in the first place then?
which I found funny
Because everyone else appears to have a sense of humor?
Dad? I didn't know you had an MGoBlog account! Its great to have you as a contributor here on the Board!
If there is nothing is common, why make the joke in the first place then?
Wow, you're really struggling with the concept of what a "joke" is, aren't you?
Q: What's the difference between an oyster with epilepsy and a prostitute with diarrhea?
David from Wyoming: Well, those are entirely different things, so the question is moot.
but when you see andy katzenmoyer roaming in front of the OSU athletic department, brandishing a machete and an AK47, don't say we didn't warn you.....
Q: What's the difference between Tressel and Gadhafi?
A: One is a tyrannical dictator who is losing his grip on reality, thinks that rules and international norms do not apply to do him, will do whatever it takes to maintain his grip on power, including utilizing degenerates and criminals to do his dirty work, yet still has adoring followers who will not admit that he is the essence of evil.
The other is Gadhafi.
My best friend is a buckeye and the word from him is that, people are still holding him in high regard and think he has earned the right to keep his job and most believe on ElevenWarriors that, the sanctions OSU put out there will be enough.
It is odd to see the students take such a strong stance against such a beloved figure on their campus. Why are they not calling for TP's career to be over too I wonder?
Do a search for TPeezy2 on twitter.
Merry Christmas
Any insight?
A quick skim of @Tpeezy2 comments is mostly fans ripping on TP for putting Tressell in the situation he's in.
Exhibit A:
buckiforlife @TPeezy2 Every Buckeye fan and each of your teammates will suffer the shame of your selfishness. Hope you learn and are better for it.
I stand even more joyous than I was 5 minutes ago. I love seeing him getting bashed by his own fans. It'll be interesting to see how he is received when he comes back from suspension.
If I'm there, I'm booing his ass, loudly and consistently.
But you still trust Tressel, even though he lied to the NCAA.
I approve of this message.
I'm sure TP will shed a tear (along with Cam Newton and L. James) when the NCAA comes down on OSU (and Auburn, and Oregon......) as he's counting his NFL $$$.
Anyone who argues that universities use their players is right, however, we're seeing great examples of how the elite college players use their universities.
auburn was newtons 3rd college and he was only there 1 year, pryor chose OSU from the beginning and is going to be there 4 years. he even got an osu tattoo. I don't like the guy but i'm pretty sure he cares about his university and what happens to it, he's just too stupid to stop doing things that hurt it
And why did he choose "the University of Ohio State"? He said it himself...he choose them because he thought they would prepare him for the NFL the best. True, we all choose schools that will give us the best chance at future success, but I think there is little actual loyalty to his school. His actions since he committed can back that up.
I don't. He sold his gold pants. If that doesn't represent everything OSU stands for (other than maybe a trucker hat) then I don't know what does.
Woody would have hit him harder than he hit that poor DB from Clemson.
There may be a "Buckeye State", but there is no "Buckeye Nation"... thank God!
Bryant got suspended for a whole year because he lied about his relationship with "Prime Time". He didn't play any ineligible players like Vest did. I would expect that a year minimum should be what the Vest must deal with. If he has any involvement with Buckeye football during that year nothing less then termination and a extended ban from coaching anywhere in college would be acceptable.
The NCAA can decide to what to do with the university, but the penalties should definitely be harsher than ours were for "stretchgate".
I get a feeling that once the NCAA hands out it's punishment for Pearl down at Tenn. we should all have a better grasp of what will happen to JT. And something no one is mentioning, but couldn't the B1G step in and hand out a harsher penalty if they wanted to? So in fact, JT could face sanctions from three different sources.
yes yer gonna burn
Here comes justice.
I love the delusion in the comments. It makes me giggle like a little school girl.
A bunch of people say he got facts wrong, but the only one to specify insists that the emails didnt say anything about players selling memorabilia(!)
So delicious
The comments on the article are funny as hell. Half the comments call the writer garbage and the other half applaud him. This entire incident has become one giant filter, allowing us to decipher the crazies from the sane. I love it!
that kid is going to get killed on that campus.
"When asked whether he considered firing Tressel, Gee gave a clear indication of who actually runs the university.
"No, are you kidding?" Gee said with a laugh. "Let me be very clear: I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me.""
Can anyone imagine MSC saying that? In a bazillion years. I was actually on this guys side with the litte sisters of the poor thing, but even as a joke this speaks volumes about the academic/athletic balance at tOSU.
Can they even still pretend to be an institution of higher learning after this.
Anytime you hear a University has the highest athletic budget in the country it should be a red flag in terms of the academic priority at the university.
OSU has 37 D-1 athletic programs there is no question that athletics is all that matters down there.
OSU values their athletics, so what? And believe it or not, their school ain't too shabby either. Don't let your blind hate get the situation out of perspective.
tosu is shabby and the data confirms this. tosu ranks near the last Big 10 school in Freshman SATs, USNWR rankings, and football player SATs.
FWIW: MSU is closely ranked with tosu as well. Both schools rank below us in just about every acedemic and athletic catagory.
Except for self-reported secondary violations. OSU's in a league of their own with that garbage.
Both schools rank below us in just about every acedemic and athletic catagory.
Gee, I'd hate to see how badly an OSU grad must spell.
I was fired up about this one and trying to drive and type on my Blackberry was a little difficult. I guess I should not text and drive anymore.....but osu gets me a little fired up.
Come, Mr. MGoSoftball. Let us bask in our unassailable moral superiority and drink the delicious tears of OSU schadenfreude. And win a lot of softball games. Just don't post when driving, I felt my blood pressure jump a little bit when I read that part.
I agree that a focus on athletics is not mutually exclusive with stellar academics, both at the institutional level and on the individual athlete level. As pointed out above, statistically OSU isn't close to the elite academic tier, although they are solid for an american university.
You don't think their 37 teams have anything to do with the size of their budget? The school with the most athletic teams has the largest budget to run all the teams...this should not be that shocking and it's surely not a red flag for anything.
The AD size has nothing to do with academics. They can afford it, big deal.
MIT has 44 varsity teams for lest than 1/10th the budget that OSU uses. The 37 teams have something to do with it but lots of other schools field the same number of teams for far less money.
You do know that Michigan's athletic budget is in the top 5 nationally, right? So . . . it's okay to spend the third or fourth-most in the country on sports, but not the most?
Believe it or not, there are actually a lot of kids that go to OSU for an education. Not just to support the football team.
When all those kids find out that the AD would kotow to Tressel so much as to possibly put the hurt on the university at large (if the athletic dept loses money over this, it's going to be the School of Nothing to do with Athletics Whatsoever that gets a budget cut), they're going to be PISSED.
Wow, that was a strong stance I did not expect from a student newspaper. I kind of agree with him though. As a student, you carry the degree you earned out into the world, and Tressel is a huge representative of that university and thus your degree. Wanting him held to the same ethical standards as anyone else is a valid argument.
I also like reading comments from people who clearly have no idea what is going on...Tressel is not being punished for what his players did you idiots. He is being punished for lying. And hopefully the team will be punished for playing ineligable players this whole season (aka cheating).
