I've already said this a few weeks ago on the Florida recruiting violations thread, but:

"Recruiting violations are minor, stretching violations are serious business."

my take on all this is that the penalties depend on who reports the violation. If it is self reported, then the school is ok, but if the same violation is reported by someone outside the university, it appears that it was being covered up, and hence the penalty...

(shudders) I mean, afterall, weren't we all raving about how awesome it was that Dee Hart was talking with a famous Michigan alum at the 7 on 7? Obvously no one can prove he was recruiting him but the accusation can be leveled.

Many of these rules need updated and clarified.

He managed to beat Pryor's record for No. 1 recruit who managed to put off, for longer and longer, that inevitable moment when he goes from most fawned-after man in the country to just-another-shit-ass freshman.

If these kids were smart they'd use their ridiculous amounts of athletic ability to play basketball. Various advantages:

1. They can get recruited the dirty way and nobody will ever report them, especially if they're heading to the SEC (especially with regards to Kentucky).

2. They go from most fawned-after man in the country to most banging-coeds-nonstop man in the country for 1 year, as I'm sure John Wall would admit.

3. You can dance ridiculously and as long as youre talented it will become a SportsCenter highlight, as I'm sure John wall would also admit.

4. You only have to stay in school and attend those worthless college classes for a year, then you can go to the NBA! Get those dollars ASAP, forget about an education those are overrated. You're going to have so much money from your first NBA contract that you'll never need to learn how to invest it properly or speak coherently. That stuff is for geeks.

This post is tongue in cheek in case a potential reader is too thick to realize it.

I remember that article in the Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State is far and away the leader in self reported minor violations.  One of the biggest ones was some quarterback recruit who's name was left out of the report, he was from Jeanette, PA.
