OSU Schadenfreude

Submitted by BlueNote on

I love me some schadenfreude.  This week's dosage (needed to dull the pain of Michigan's almost-but-not-quite-historic comeback on Saturday) comes courtesy of Bucknuts.com, and more specifically, from the comments to stories on OSU's loss to Wisconsin:

Any moron knew their scheme. It was so simple. We got CRUSHED up front.  CRUSHED.

Worst loss since Florida. Humiliating. Out coached. Out played. Out-desired.

Do we practice after school starts? Didn't look like it.

ST cost us the game - we knew it would.

Who cares about Iowa? Who cares? This was THE SEASON (Cpistol reference). Favorable schedule. Veteran team. This was IT.

Totally blown. Humiliating. We could lose to everyone the rest of the way except Michigan, and it makes zero difference. Zero.

Pryor needs to shut his big mouth and play football. also he is a dam cry baby. He is always talking he said i wont let us lose. he said i. he is selfish. Good job Tressel way to regroup for second half. to bad our qb is a amature baby. Hats off to boom and andrew sweat. Defensive line was horrible. nate will you havent impressed me all year. Hyped up for nothing. Where was Dorian Bell. Newsome you are horrible. Also Rolle you are a waste.

We go for 3s when we are down 21-0 lol all you tressel apologist need to shut up, he lost his hunger and his balls…do you think "holy buckeye" would ever happen again???? be honest…he freakn punted down 10 w minutes left…just disgusting. from glendale to orlando, just pathetic…THERE IS A REASON TRESS NEVER GOT BIG10 COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD, DOES THE LEAST W THE MOST

bielema schooled you tonight tress, let that sink in, im going to go puke now…NATE EBNER GET OFF THE KICKOFF COVERAGE, GO UP TO THE COACH AND SAY I CAN'T N WON'T DO IT AND EMBARRASS US ANYMORE…YOU HAVE BEEN BLOWN UP IN 3 RETURNS THIS YEAR AND R TOO SLOW TO MAKE UP GROUND. ALL THE 4 N 5 STARS AND YOU CANT REPLACE NATE FREAKN EBNER

TRESS HAND OVER THE KEYS TO SOMEONE MORE HUNGRIER N BALLSIER. WHO WONT PLAY "THEIR GUYS" BUT WHO DESERVES TO BE OUT THERE…NATE EBNER REALLY, I AM STILL PINCHING MYSELF…WOULD HE PLAY SPECIAL TEAMS FOR ANY SEC TEAM, TEX/OU, ANY ELITE TEAM BUT OSU, NO

Maybe in his 4th year, like Troy Smith, Pryor will learn to read the defense. 3 years of on the job training. It starts again in 2012 with our next 4 year project at quarterback. We will never go undefeated again as long as Tressel and his option offense are here…

Not even sure about Michagoon now!!

WHAT A ASS WOOPING NO1 MY ASS!!

I was really worried that the stars would align for the vest. His talent laden team and powder puff schedule had them all set to make a run and they blew it against a team that does the same thing week in and week out. There was no deception, no trickery, the vest and his boys got whipped, period. They will be re-building that defense next year and the schedule will be much tougher. Meanwhile our schedule next year looks delightful and another year of dilithium and an improved defense has us in a position to win 10 games next year, minimum!

I've been thinking for a few years now that if OSU has one bad season (3-4 losses), that they're going to fire Tressel.  On that day, we should all rejoyce.

One bad season won't do it.  It'd take at least two 4 loss seasons in a row for there to be serious talk of firing him.  Even then, I think he'd have to lose to Michigan both years to be in serious jeopardy.  The trustees love him because he runs a clean program, does a lot with donors, and there's never any fear of him going Mark Mangino or Mike Leach.

Even after two 4 loss seasons, tOSU would be nuts to fire him.  He has a better overall winning percentage than Woody, and probably would still even after two 4 loss seasons, and he has about the same record in the Big 10, despite this being a FAR more competitive era than the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

I agree, but I can see a sizable chunk of the fanbase screaming "UNACCEPTABLE!" if we get anything less than 10 wins a season for two years in a row.  I don't think they'd fire him absent a major scandal, but two 4 loss seasons in a row would really hurt his standing.

Look at the difference between the way he and Cam Newton (basically the same body) throw the ball, it is night and day. Who is OSU quaretbacks coach for god's sake? This kid went to OSU so that he would have a better chance to go to the NFL...hilarious! Who the hell have they ever put in the NFL. Pat White played more snaps at QB last year than Troy Smith. And that haircut, Play called he wants you to stop ripping his shit. Oh La Oh La Eh!

This is nothing compared to post-Purdue last year.

As a wise man once told me...

"Things are never as bad as they seem.  Things are never as good as they seem."

Most fan bases have problems remembering that.

on that soul-crushing sack on the last drive?  I thought he went over the LG, but didn't see for certain if that was him.  Immediately thought of TWIS and the "HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED AT MICHIGAN!!!!" post to come

Srsly tho.  Our OL is probably as good as Wiscy's.  No we don't have Clay or White, but the Badgers don't have Denard.  If Pryor pays poorly and we can limit mistakes...

saw in hand and told everyone I knew that by the time he graduated we would not want Pryor. I tossed in a couple of other names too. I was a bit nervous about Pryor, but not nearly enough to ever waffle. So far, he is helping me out.

I'm surprised you haven't been +1'd yet.  I feel the same way and thought that last year.  The Rose Bowl had me worried but then watching him a few times this year calmed me down.  How does a guy with his speed and elusiveness get sacked so often?  He has not internal clock.  DRob's is better through 7 starts than Pryor's.

I'm not so certain Pryor wouldn't have been a very good QB in Rodriguez's system.  I think he went to the wrong school because he truly thought he was capable of being a NFL QB.  Running a read option would have allowed Pryor to put up better numbers and not rely upon his passing game quite as much as he has to right now.

Thank you for posting this I needed it. It is funny how fans want to see how a team responds to a loss but they themselves go into UNACCEPTABLE mode after a loss. I was starting to get pissed off about the stupidity level around here lately but reading this made me realize how tame we are in comparison.

AD, Gordon Gee will not fire Sen. Tressel, just like Martin wouldn't fire Lloyd Carr. Even now that Tressel is the newest Lloyd Carr.

disclaimer, I will always be Carr fan.

I'm a member over on the premium boards of Bucknuts. Some of the replies seemed like they became fans after the Rose Bowl. They seemed so out of touch with OSU and college football in general. One poster said something to the tune of "Big Ten Championships mean nothing to me for this team, if it's not a NC then it's a disappointment." Other posts from the same person have shown him to be somewhat of a younger adult, possibly still a teenager.  Some of the most extreme fans are the ones who are the most absent minded. You've all seen them plenty on this board as have I.

As for the defense, I simply couldn't believe they looked that bad. They've had a lot of injuries this year and lost Ross Homan early in the game. Losing guys like Moeller, Homan, and Bryant (freshmen but played well) hurt them a lot more than then they let on. Obviously  they didn't go up against an O-line like Wisconsin's the entire year but I would never think they would get man handled like that.

It hurts like any loss hurts but OSU has Purdue this week and after the upset loss last year I'm really thinking OSU and the defense especially are going to put a "hurtin" on Hope's engineers. After that they have a night game against the Fightin' Ex-Brewster's, then a bye. I'm hoping the ship gets corrected and if they go undefeated the rest of the way, to make it as a BCS at-large team.

I basically scanned the comments for those in CAPS, because I assumed they would be the most incendiary and irrational.  They are also the most fun.

You, sir, are obviously one of those logical Buckeyes banished from Buckeye Groupthink.  You have sought refuge in a land of tolerance and reason, among those you formerly considered your enemies.

Return to your people, Darth, pretend that this conversation never took place, and provide us secret information about Sweatervest's greatest weakness on the eve of battle.  Together, we will destroy Emperor Sweatervest and return the galaxy to equilibrium.

I agree that he won't be fired, but I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that Tressel has won or shared five consecutive Big Ten titles, and has beaten us six consecutive times.   We need to beat him before we get smug.

College Football is demanding on the players. It demands dedication and selfless hard work - egos usually stand in the way and hinder development. After the Pryor recruitment saga, I was convinced that his amatureness (this word is pure win!) will stop him from making the next leap. Talent alone is not sufficient and he has not yet shown that he can make use of the God given talent as much as the best college football players.

The light may still switch on in his head - but I don't think it will. He will go early to NFL, make some good money the first couple of years and then fade away. He is turning out to be the classis waste of talent. I am not saying his is a bad player - just that he is not even close to the player he can be.

Run a coach out of town with multiple 10 win/BT championships and one loss vs. UM.

I thought that having TP would hurt more than help OSU, there formula has always been QB manager, Power Running and good D and special teams (punter) and wait for a mistake (save the Troy smith years and he was an accident, not a recruited QB). Now with TP they seem to be going to more shotgun/spread and now they're losing their running game by the RB's.

And as far as the melt down on other teams sites...Well it's nice that OSU,UF and others are having problems, misery loves company.
