Burrows broke his foot back in October 2015, and had to get surgery for it. There was hope that he'd back midseason this year, but it looks like his recovery will keep him out for the full season.

It is actually a decently big loss. Cam Burrows was a former composite 4* recruit, and a redshirt junior. Since Ohio State lost 3 of their 4 starters in the secondary to the NFL last year (CB Eli Apple, S Vonn Bell, S Tyvis Powell), Burrows was expected to provide experience and depth at a thin position group. At worst Burrows would have been the first safety off the bench, and could have potentially competed for either of the open safety spots this year.

What are your thoughts on some of these young OSU secondary players (Smith, Lattimore, Hooker, Webb)? I expect them to all be awesome based on recruiting hype, but I can't say I've ever really seen any of them play (if they participated in OSU games I watched last season, I didn't notice).

New secondary coach, at least a somewhat new system and 3/4 new starters makes me believe Baker Mayfield will have a 300 yard passing day in a few weeks.
By November, I expect them to have figured it out, because the talent is there. But so much of the safety play in quarters coverage is communication, covering for your partner and knowing where to be. That requires reps and experience to be good at (look at Vonn Bell and Tyvis's first month in 2014--subpar) and I have realistic expectations it will take time for the new guys to get up to snuff. If OSU was playing Nebraska instead of Wisconsin in early October, I'd peg that for a loss too, but I don't trust Wisconsin's QB to exploit anything. Indiana at home in early October may be closer than the experts think.

To directly answer your question, only Hooker hasn't seen the field on defense for meaningful snaps. Erik Smith has been talked about as 1C to Vonn/Tyvis for the last two years, he's just been injured, so I have no idea what to expect.

Webb moving from corner to safety is either a bad sign for his man coverage skills or a good sign for our cornerbacks in that they want Webb on the field and the other guys in front of him at corner were better, so they moved him to safety.

Conley is the only lock to be all-conference. Lattimore should be good, and is more experienced than 0 starts would indicate. Everything else is "wait and see."

But I say upvote this guy for his insightful input. I don't follow our rivals teams as much as far as their depth charts go, and I love hearing about it from a rival's perspective. This guy's cool enough to discuss this politely with rival fans, so give him some props. He (usually) doesn't cause any trouble around here.

Sad for the player. They wait so long to play and get injured. With that said, I am sure osu is loaded and I am not at all unhappy with this situation.

Really is too bad whenever this happens. So much work goes into preparing for a season in college football I think most of us could not comprehend the devastating feeling that must go with something like this (although last year I spent 2 full weeks preparing a financial presentation for my business partner only to have the file get accidentally deleted and I almost killed myself. Not saying it's the exact same feeling but probably pretty similar).

Wasn't even on the 2-deep OSU put out yesterday, so not sure this effects them any....unless they knew yesterday he wasn;t going to play.

Again, wake me up when one of their starters or 2nd team guys is out.

I remember back in the 80's when I went to school and we won games 55-0 on the regular that I barely knew the names of 2 linemen let alone if an opposing team's second or third string safety was injured... Honestly not sure which option is better other but then again, no MGoBlog back then and MGoBlog is kind of the shit.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but he wasn't one of their top 3 safeties. Maybe it'll hurt for depth issues but he wasn't going to be a starter. A true freshman had a chance to jump him as well according to an article on 247.
