OSU reaction to Turner's Shot

So I was in attendance at the Big 10 Quarterfinal versus OSU. Boy was I ready to explode on the "asshole" contigent of douchy Buckeye fans. In front of us was a dad in a OSU hoops jersey and his two sons-the oldest around 7 and the youngest around 3. He talked shit all game and then got real quiet when Manny hit the shot to go up with 2.2 seconds. This is where it got really interesting.

When Turner's shot went in (don't even get me started on how we could allow him to catch the ball uncontested and make a BEILIEN to midcourt), the asshole dad grabbed his three year-old son and starting slapping him. Now when I say slapping, I mean slapping his son. The kid looked at us and had tears on his face. The dad kept yelling "Happy Birthday" over and over again.

I was in attendance with two Spartys and we just stood there speechless. This went on for two minutes. After the review of the shot, the guy turned to me (I was wearing UM gear) and shook my hand and said, "You played your guts out." I was so pissed at this child beater, I didn't even know what to say.

My response was this: As I looked him straight in the face, I said, "We'll see you in the Horseshoe in November." He just looked at me. This is going to symbolize a shift in this UM-OSU rivalry. I am putting the hex on that whole frickin' state.

OSU fans are nothing but a bunch of little bitches. Congrats, you won but when you beat your kid, it makes you an asshole. He was wearing a #14 jersey if he reads this blog. Don't think the cotton candy you bought your kid took the sting away, you beat your kid's ass because you couldn't control yourself. You fucking douchebag!!!!!!

Yeah

The only reason I'd shake his hand is to hold onto him till the police got there. "See you in November" in no way would adequately reflect my disdain for him. You shook the hand he used to hit his kid with? We'd never have talked..I'd have taken his ass down before the second slap connected. Disgusting from a fan of any team.

If you're a parent,

that's not something you joke about. I could handle the loss, but not when the little kid started crying. The worst thing was that he lost control and didn't realize what he did to that kid.

I agree, when you have a kid

I agree, when you have a kid a story like that is beyond disgusting. We all lose control sometimes, it's human nature. But there is such a thing as self-control, and if you can't control yourself and your emotions by the time you've become an adult you're probably not fit to have children anyway.

Agree 100%

That what the man did was disgusting. To lose control like that under THOSE circumstances is reprehensible. However, to pretend that all asults can control themselves and their emotions at all times is a little unrealistic.

Again, I agree that this guy had NO reason to lose it, but coming from a man who has quadruplet 20 month old children, adults don't always control themselves or their emotions. I don't necessarily think I am the exeption to the rule either FWIW.

He's right...the OSU fans

He's right...the OSU fans there were pretty douchey. They didn't make much noise all game until Turner hit that shot. The few UM fans that were there outclassed them, IMO.

To the OP: where were you sitting? If I had to guess, I'd say you were down in the lower bowl across from our bench. That seems to be where the most alumni were for us.

No

I'm not NO. 14 . Everyone makes mistakes . I've seen people I know do things that others would take out of context . One time my relatives left young son in car when they went to breakfast . They made a mistake . They are great parents . If someone saw son in car they would have been in trouble . Child abuse is very serious . Sometimes people not involved judge too quickly .

Why yes, I am

Thanks for noticing.

If by "perfect" you mean I've never beat a child, never left one locked in a car while I went and ate (not the case, but, see below), haven't murdered anyone, or any of these other "mistakes" "everyone" does to justify their own wrong doing. Most people don't do things that should land them in jail. But here people making excuses for those that do, and you wouldn't think it.

So I guess a lot of us are "perfect".

Are you serious?

How can slapping a 3 year old child at a basketball game be taken out of context?

And I would never, ever, under any circumstances leave my child in the car while I went to breakfast.

I agree...

Leaving a child in a car while you go out to breakfast doesn't seem like something that could be done by mistake. Not sure how that could be used as an example to back himself up.

Learn to tell a story

" One time my relatives left young son in car when they went to breakfast ."

From that it says they went in and had breakfast. Not that they forgot the kid in the car and rushed back. "Went to" usually means eating. So if the story was misunderstood, you have no one but yourself to blame.

And it's thus a horrible example because how that compares to slapping around a kid makes no sense.

It was like a minute . I thought you had him . I thought you had him . But if someone came by in that minute they would see a child by himself . They didn't eat with the child in the car . All it takes is a minute for someone to make something out of nothing .

he without sin cast the first stone . They didn't eat with the kid in car . They looked at each other and went , "Darn , I thought you had him ." It was like a minute . All it takes is a minute for someone to see a child in a car and think bad things . Parents minds sometimes wander . They went oops and the world went on . They would never leave child in car . It was about a year ago when a couple around Brighton left their toddler in their truck and the child died . One parent thought the other one took the child to day care . They will grieve for life .

I can not stand

When parents do things like this to their kids I mean seriously were going to treat them like plantation slaves or dirt because they get a little rowdy and are enjoying them selves? Come on. I ref pee wee hockey and I always see parents acting out of control to their kids or the other team. God they are just children let them have some fun and enjoy themselves instead of mom or dad being bitches or dicks. I can't even tell you how many parents I've thrown out of a game before. I had a case where I was the linesman on the left side and I made a bad offside call in a tied game and this father is screaming his head off "THATS NOT OFFSIDES YOU DIP SHIT." Granted this was my 2nd game after the training course I took. That tore it to me and I skated up to the boards and said "look pal, unless you want to embarrass your son by having you escorted out of here by the police I'd shut your damn mouth before this gets worse, you got me?" He shut up right then and there. These are 10-13 year old kids for god sake too.

While we're on the subject of Ohio State...

And the lack of family values.

Was I the only one that was completely disgusted watching the end of the Big Ten Title game today?

With just over a minute to play, and up 20+ points on Minnesota, OSU was still playing it's starters. And instead of showing a little respect toward Minnesota by running the clock out, OSU was sprinting down the court draining 3 pointers like it was desperation time.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

You stay classy OSU.

I'm okay with that

To me, every time a team takes the floor they should play their best. I find it more disrespectful to play down to a team by goofing around, rather than putting forth an honest effort. I understand your point, running up the score is very demeaning, but this is college athletics, if you don't like a team scoring on you - stop them. I guess, I wouldn't want us to take it easy on OSU, so I have a hard time condemning them for similar behavior.

He wasn't saying they should screw around all game. Just that it's impossible to blow a 20 point lead in a minute, and at a minimum the smart thing to fo is run out the clock so you can win, which is the point, or put in some hard working scrubs so they can play in a winning Tourney Championship game to pay them back for what they do and show some class by respecting your opponent. Not that I'd expect any of that from Matta, especially after Friday.

Sounds like you just want a justification to run up the score against them later. Remember, to steal a football metaphor, nothing says "I own you" more than saying "I don't need the points, and I don't think you can stop me anyway" than taking a knee.

I'm sorry...

But I disagree with you on this one.

Ohio State was winning by more than 20 points with just over a minute to play, and they chose to run up the score by shooting 3 pointers without even taking 10 seconds off the shot clock.

That is classless.

Fair enough

I can see I am out-voted on this issue. But don't misconstrue my words as praise for OSU. I root for the Big Ten in everything post-season (the only thing I could do most of the time as a Spartan fan for the first 18 years of my life), but for the first time in a long time I will be rooting against a big ten team (in OSU) in every game they play because I cannot stand the way Thad Matta and the Buckeyes acted after that steal of a win. To use another football metaphor, "When you score a touchdown, act like you have been there before." A coach (Matta) screaming at the opposing bench, even if a rival, is classless. I just didn't take offense to the act of scoring points. The rest of their behavior was atrocious and just fuels my growing hate for the punks down south.

maybe we put the scare on

maybe we put the scare on them, and they played a full game to shake it off.

I was at the Big House for this years Mich-Osu game and it was obvious how classless their fans are. They seem to forget about the 90's and our domination of the rivalry. All they want to talk about is the past 6-7 years. I cant wait until it turns back around ..because it will and they will have to eat ALOT of crow.

Sorry Guys

That was my nephew. My brother is a big OSU fan and I offered to take his kids to the game. I wanted to take out my frustration on a defenseless, 3-year-old child and knew the only way it would be acceptable is in full OSU garb. Sorry again.
