landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Maurice clarett thinks that is so adorable
Lol....I sounder what his life goals are after playing football. Because he isn't going to play in the NFL
it's true, classes at OSU are pointless.
Didn't Adolfus Washington say the same thing last year?
I bet he doesn't start this week. Oh wait, he's 3rd string? Education isn't very important when you are 3rd string, because you are DESTINED for a life in the NFL where knowledge is useless.
Washington something along the lines of 'they won't let you fail, you'd have to try to fail to actually flunk out'. Was talking about academic support.
Thought that was Tate Forcier.
Too soon? No, not too soon.
Still have No. 5 Jersey in my closet. Sad face...must move on but still too soon
When he committed, that "even with minimal effort, it's impossible to fail."
He is absolutely right. He didn't get into OSU because of his great grades. This kid was brought in to ride the bench his entire career. Classes surely would get in the way of that.
in front of my desk, so that fact alone won't make me feel superior to the guy. Still, good PR this twit's twitter isn't.
Why we got to do work here? I ain't come here to work, I come here to read MGoBlog!
I'm not sure if that's a good thing for Ohio because it shows he's going to class despite the fact that he doesn't want, or bad simply because of how idiotic it sounds.
Ultimately I think I'll just view this as another sad insight on society and the future of our country.
there are many people who choose not to go to college because they don't like school.
I think it is more an insight on the hypocrisy of the system where people who have no interest in a higher education, are given scholarships, academic assistance, etc., just so that institution can succeed in a sport.
I am sure there are many ex-high school football players out there, who would really appreaciate the opportunity to continue playing football, and get a higher education. That is what is sad to me.
I'm glad he picked Ohio over Michigan.
Zoikes @ "playing school"
I'll have you know, he's going to get top dollar when he goes to sell his books back. That reminds me, my sister has a communications class next semester. Who do you think will be cheaper, amazon, or Cardale?
I certainly hope he is not a communications major. The only thing he has communicated well is that he is an idiot. Isn't it great that he is receiving a free education and not someone who actually wants to learn?
Herm, you crack me up everytime.
"[h]e's going to get top dollar when he goes to sell his books back."
Haven't lol'd at a post in a long time. You are a credit to your craft.
Nice. This tweet dovetails nicely with Urban Meyer's attempt to emphasize Ohio's academic superiority for football players in comparison with Michigan's (major comparison he highlighted before the season started).
Since when do they have to go to class?
I'd love to know what the assignment was that put Cardale over the edge.
A 5-paragraph essay on "Go Dog Go"
Cardale: "Are you saying I failed my entire freshman year?"
Professor: "GO AROUND AGAIN!"
My kids are no longer infants and toddlers, but I still know that book by heart from cover to cover.
Do you like my party hat?
Do you like my party hat? Do you like my party tat.?
No Sir, No Sir, I know fo'sure sir...
I would not like it, in one of Terrel Pryor's loaner cars... I would not like it from behind Maurice Clarett's bars....
I do not like it with a bow tie.... I do not like it when they dot the "I"...
You can take your buckeye's and shove them up your wazzoo... Cuz I am from Michigan, just outside of Kalamazoo...
Rooting for Ohio is just not my scene... Because I am a true blue, Wolverine....
Dr. Geisel or whatever Seus's real name is sitting up in his grave, laughing his ass off!
He was really disappointed to see that dog was not spelled "dawg".
The light is red!
Go Jones Go, tattoos ahead.
"Coiled" basketry I have heard is a difficult basketweaving technique
I don't think that is what the professor teaching your class on existentialism meant when they told you to apply the concept of "Absurdism" to real life. Then again, the meaning of life to Jones is clearly football, which if this is the only facet he will consider, it makes classes extraneous. Camus might very well have bought that as a practical application. Well done, Cardale.
Granted, he would have had to go to that class to understand this....
i think you managed to write something less grammatical than that tweet
Then again, the meaning of life to Jones is clearly football, which if this is the only facet he will consider, it makes classes extraneous.
when did this board become filled with the most coddled people on the internet? it's ok, boys. you'll pull through my devastating internet criticisms of your crappy grammar. they're almost never fatal.
When he can't be bothered to capitalize or punctuate?
he needs to hire on Andy Katzenmoyer for some guidance counselling.
You would think the movie "broke" on ESPN would've opened some eyes.
His next one wil be about being third string and not needing to go to practice.
Man we talkin' 'bout practice. Not a game...
I doubt Cardale will be on the team much longer.
On the other hand, he's right. Many "student" athletes don't care about school, but going to college is the only way to get into the NFL, which is what they really want.
Although I can see that line of thought for a guy who comes in as a starter and is one of the better players on the team, but that is not Cardale, and he should know that by now. Not only will he not go to the NFL, but he will likely never take a meaningful snap in college.
If Denard had that viewpoint, I'd be disappointed but I'd get it. If Kenny Wilkins did, it would be stupid. Cardale Jones has as good a shot at the NFL as Keny Wilkins, and they both should be looking to not-sports as a career after college.
This is a kid from a poor neighborhood, with bad grades from a bad high school who had to go to prep school to qualify... no, he really doesn't know.
It might not make sense to us, but it is what it is.
Also, by all accounts that I've read, Cardale has a terrible attitude (as evidenced by his tweets).
All of those facts would make you think that he would want to take advantage of the unique opportunity that has been given to him. Looks like he will live the rest of his life in that poor neighborhood.
Well... both guys ahead of him on the depth chart are older than him ,so saying he won't go to NFL or likely never take a meaningful snap isn't a fair assumption.
Well yeah, he's a freshman. Every freshman who comes in is behind kids older than them, for the most part.
But Cardale in only one year behind Miller, and has a pretty highly rated guy a year behind him. Add that to the fact that Cardale has never proven to be a great QB prospect, and that he is far from an Urban-style QB (no pun intended), I highly doubt we ever see Cardale Jones playing meaningful minutes as an OSU QB.
He will most likely be passed up by JT Barrett once he gets on campus anyways. I can see a transfer in the future.
Absolutely no doubt about that. Barrett is a better QB all around than Jones, and a much better fit for OSU's offense. The coaches will be grooming him as BM's heir apparent.
Cardale might have a shot if he moves to TE, actually. He's a big dude.
I'm glad he picked OSU and not Michigan. I would have thought that going to Fork Union would have straightened him up a little bit. I guess he still doesn't understand...
I guess it didn't help much since he spent only 6 months there.
...'cause kids don't go to FUMA for football at all.
This kid's got a point. I mean he's got a bright future waitng for him in the NFL. What team wouldn't want to draft a 3rd string qb who will never see the field?
and doesn't like studying? I mean, cuz, they don't spend any time hittin' the books in the NFL. No siree...
To be drafted.
Is his twitter handle a misspelling of his own name?
Insert "Super Mario Kart" for FOOTBALL and I would have tweeted the same thing in college.
For me, it was Goldeneye 007.
F'n magnets, how do they work?
I was hoping to find a thread about Ashley Cole calling the FA a #bunchoftwats, but this is pretty good.
Is this soccer-related?
Ashley Cole is the left back for Chelsea. He was once married to Cheryl (Tweedy) Cole, but like an idiot, he cheated on her numerous times. He is good at soccer, but he is also a twat.
I'll see you in food service, Cardale.
An amazing quote - simple yet profound, innocently assertive and completely honest without any regard to the long term significance. He should win 2012's most honest thing said by an athlete.
That is from the OSU just makes it even better.
"Why should I have to work for everything? It's like saying I don't deserve it!"
I hope that your shift manager at Taco Bell will help sponsor your neighborhood leauge, Cardell, so that you can still come to play FOOTBALL.
Holy smokes. Just what you want to hear from a quarterback, albeit a back-up one. If that's what the guy's attitude is about learning, it makes you wonder why Ohio (or any top program) would offer him a scholarship (like us!).
Just add that to the "Great things said by an OSU QB!" list.
BTW, did anyone else notice he spelled his name wrong too? It's listed at the top as cArdel, but then below that for his twitter handle he has it as cOrdel... Also his twitter handle is @cordel 10, when obviously by his picture he is 12. Granted he wore 10 in HS, so that one is semi-excusable. His whole twitter account is full of fail!
He just offended the handful of his teammates who did go to OSU to play school.
I'm loving buckeyeplanet on this one.
Most popular comments? "I came to get f'ed up!" and "I went for pussy and beer!" A bastion of higher education, clearly. Seriously, 9/10ths of the responses support this kid in saying that!
Like "I went for pussy and beer!" got a whole lot of the latter but almost none of the former?
I thought they went there for the free tattoos?
Low blow? Low blow.
Everybody kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me.
We ain't come to talk CRIME...
I'm betting he ends up academic All-B1G, just like Terrelle.
Hello, Gordon? This is Mark. Tell your 3rd string quarterback to put a lid on it or we'll get pressured to investigate you again.
... in twitter speak, the grammer is actually not that bad.
it's grammar and not grammer.
I'm Rick James, bitch.
Can you teach me how to school?
seeing that reminds me of clarrett and
Cardale must be failing the TWILIGHT Class i assume
That is one tough class. So many names to remember and I am not even factoring the Volturi !!!
It's open book, which means he can read it ... Oh, okay. I get it ....
What an idiot. Even if 99.99% of players are thinking the same thing, don't tweet it for the world to see. Nice work mentoring your kids, Urban. Way to recognize the ones that might need some extra help.
In High School a kid in History Class asked "how could a shot be heard all around the world?" Sounds like Cardale.
We ain't come to play SCHOOL
I dont even know what to say to this
Cardale, I'm sure a man with your qualifications would have no trouble finding a top flight job in the housekeeping or food service industry.
You gonna answer that?
Solid use of a Ghostbusters quote.
Hey, I remember kind of thinking that same thought one time.
...somewhere around 1st grade, I think.
I know right!? All I wanna do is play tag, ring a round the rosie and drink my juice box. And they expect me to learn how to read and do math and stuff? What're they thinking?
Apparently he's not just removed the tweet, he's deleted his whole twitter account now. There is a pretty funny parody one up already though https://twitter.com/cardalejones10
Meyer probably had something to do with that.
Oh man that is funny. I laughed especially hard at this one:
I love Friday, it means no class tomorrow. I also love Sunday and Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday.
— Cardale Jones (@cardalejones10) October 5, 2012
...that the only day he doesn't love is Saturday--game day. I bet Urban loved that one.
Pretty good stuff. Especially the newest couple of tweets about holding the clipboard like a boss.
To his defense, last summer he had a weekend off and received his Chiropractor certificate, so he is pretty much set.
Tate Forcier has some guys up in C-Land you TOTALLY have to meet.
Too good to be true.
I mean, this is pure gold. Pure. Gold.
OSU - the gift that keeps on giving
all the rest of the non-academic football institutions (with the exception of Vandy).
What is OSU? Oh, Ohio...ok. Makes sense.
I have sympathy for this kid because he is so stupid. He probably has not attended or learned anything in a class since he started playing organized football in middle school.
This doesn't surprise. The whole student athlete thing is a joke at some universities. I would not be happy I was Meyer. Didn't he say he was going to ban twitter. My need to go back to that rule.
My guess is because he's the third best QB on their team.
And considering his attitude, I don't ever see him elevating beyond that status. Not that it matters much to us.
Not a great tweet but give the kid a break and stop cyber stalking these young men.
I am just surprised one might actually feel like they have to go to class at osu. I thought it was so far from an osu student's mind that it was a non issue.
Everybody hates classes, kills people, etc....
And what's the deal with homework? You're not working on your home.
Next it'll be... practice?! We be talking about practice!
This is serious stuff. If he doesn't go to class, how will he ever learn to properly appreciate music. He could be unaware of the existance of AIDS. And his golf score will definitely suffer. Get yourself to class young man.
It's comments like these that make me wish there wasn't a limit on the number of years before a player can declare for the draft. So many of these kids have this attitude, not just Cardale Jones. If you don't want to be in school, leave! Lots of kids wish they were at that school, especially for free!
I know I'll sound like an old fogey here, but this is why I think all college students need to be sat down and shown just how damaging social media can be if you don't understand its scope. I was in college right before Facebook really started to take hold (back when AIM was the king of online discourse), and I'd shudder to think how dumb every one of my classmates would sound if people could broadcast their inner idiocy to everyone.
with society. It makes me sick that education is no longer a priority in our society. This is the beginning of the end for us guys...
that no one told him: to "Playskool" is to do more than play!
I guess we all advance at our own pace. And that's.... okay.
Its people like this I can't stand that go to OSU. They take a scholarship and the gift of learning away from a student who would normally want to learn and give it to people like Jones who don't care.... I honestly think Meyer needs to make an example of some of his players that this type of behavior is unacceptable. Chances are he won't because he is a coward. Is it that hard to go to class and play football? If these players need help, they can go to Younkin Success Center and get help from the tutors for the athletes. SMH.
"Never let school get in the way of your football."--Mark Twain
I go to OSU for journalism/pre-law. I tweet every day about how pointless geology is and how much I hate it but have to take it to satisfy some "requirement." I don't play football. No one cares. Go figure.
The difference is that you might have a future in journalism/pre-law.
Jones doesn't have a future in football; he needs a backup plan.
No one cares because you don't play football for Ohio State; not because your tweet isn't stupid.
I thought Urban banned Ohio players from posting on Twitter?
Of course at one point they banned reporters from using it at his press conferences and the very next day rescinded that decision.
Not sure if that's good or bad. How will we know if McRib is back?
"We aint come here to play SCHOOL"
Cardale Jones is officially my favorite ohio state football player of all time.
