OSU pulls a DB, confiscates water at spring game

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Lot of hi-jinx going on in columbus right now.

Utterly ridiculous that #OhioState is confiscating bottled water going in the gates so they can charge you $4 apiece inside. WATER.

also, a kid was trampled by overweight ebay guys when OSU decided to sell equipment.

I had season tickets in the row behind the guy on the left.  He didn't know anything about football, spent the entire season begging cameramen to put him on TV, and sat on his hands when he wasn't being shown.  We used to throw gummy bears at his wig to see if we could get them to stick.

I saw them all on espn today when they were talking about the OSU spring game and the only thing that could come to my mind was which one of those fat fucks will drop dead first from a heart attack?  I know im horrible.. im just sick of them being fat and annoying.  They haven't changed in almost 20 years of seeing them

...you can't bring water into a BUNCH of stadiums in this country!!! Why? Because half the time that water is VODKA and they don't want to worry about sniffing your beverage.

Don't be an idiot and try to bring it in...it's like complaining that they don't let you bring your water through security at the airport...we all know they don't, but people stand there and whine like it's news. No lady, toss your shit away and let's move! Places to go, people to see! Chop-chop! Let's gooo!

They want to whine about OSU wanting people to buy their $4 bottles of water, yes...but they also don't want a bunch of clear alcohol being brought into the stadium. The airplane bottles in the socks is plenty.

This is so stupid to get mad over. If you don't like it...use a fucking drinking fountain, jackass.

It's actually not unsafe at all when they sell the water.

Also, they have heat management procedures and policies. Guarantee if it's over a certain degree on the heat index they'll waive the no water policy (just like most every other school that has the policy).

They'll also set up misting stations in addition to allowing you to bring water in.

Considering I've worked at Ohio St, Maryland, UCF among other schools and ALL have the exact same policy, I think I know what I'm talking about.

Which is why I know people don't like it (hence the downvotes), but in the end...I understand why the policy is in place.

Like I said, yes, they don't allow outside food and drink per their contract with their concessionaire. But it's also about alcohol.

You, and a few others, chose to only read the alcohol part --- it's also plain and simple, no outside food or drink. Shit, that have that rule at soccer and softball games.

Now if concessions isn't selling that item, sometimes you can bring it in. For example, on a cold morning, if concessions isn't selling coffee, most places let you bring your coffee to the game (any outdoor sport). On a hot day, if they're not selling water, they'll let you bring your water.

So don't talk to me like I don't know what I'm talking about, I know exactly what I'm talking about. I understand why you don't like it though, if I were you, I probably wouldn't either. But I'm able to see both sides. Not just the side of the fan.

It probably is. But if it weren't about making money, they'd negotiate it into the concessions contract that water will be sold cheaper.

However, "Don't talk to me like I don't know what I'm talking about"? Seriously, here's a few things:

1) Internet - Serious Business

2) Nobody is "talking to you".

3) Maybe you are god-king of concessions - that doesn't make you infallible.

If it were so much about alcohol, why were you allowed to bring in water bottles as recently as about five years ago? It's not like vodka was just invented. Still sealed water bottles used to be allowed. Nobody was going through the effort of trying to sneak vodka in by pretending it was an unopened water bottle. There's much easier ways to sneak booze in.

If you want to smuggle vodka or other alcohol into the stadium, there are other ways to do it.  They're not going to stop it by banning water bottles.  This policy of Brandon's was probably the one I hated the most.  It was nothing more than a money-grabbing, exploitive shake-down of the fans.  Nothing to do with security or illegal booze smuggling.  At least the Ohio fans are ONLY paying $4, unlike us.

Because alcohol wasn't the only reason I said it wasn't allowed.

It's certainly a big part of the equation, but so is the contract they have with their concessionaire - whoever that may be. And I guarantee that contract says they have to enforce a no outside food/drink policy. And yes, they probably make a SHIT ton off the contract, and the concessions folks make a shit ton off the $4 water. Most of which goes back to them - not the University.

You clearly don't know that particular poster.

He was really drunk in a Open thread during the season and embarrassed himself, then he got mad and for months he'd stalk my posts and downvote them all.

Not that I cared, once you're past 100, points mean nothing. It was cute, like a puppy. After awhile he got tired and fell off, but now he's back on his game I see. Anyway!

That answer suffice or you have another condescending question you'd like to ask?

After Michigan banned watter bottles in 2010, my friend's grandfather went to a game with us in early September and it was about 85 degrees.  We weren't aware of the new policy so we didn't have any money on us, and we had water confiscated at the gate.  Late in the first half, he was looking pretty parched so we went to get some water from one of the free stations, but the wait was too long and the cups just weren't big enough. 30 minutes later, he was on his way to U of M hospital after collapsing from dehydration.

What a jackass.

Yeah, why complain since people know? Just like slavery should've been accepted since people knew it existed! Just accept it, move along, chop chop.

You are exactly the kind of moron that has allowed every degradation that befalls us to befall us.

Thanks for everything crappy in our system. You're a disgrace to the Yost name.

The EBay maggots weren't "fans:" just assholes looking to exploit the fanbase and make money.

OTOH, it couldn't happen to a nicer fanbase.
