OSU LB Darron Lee to Enter Draft

Submitted by Bambi on

According to his twitter.

This is the first draft domino to fal for MSU or OSU. This is pretty big, as Lee was a guy many OSU fans were hopeful would return. He'll probably be a 1st or 2nd rounder in the draft.

OSU is still waiting decisions on WR's Michael Thomas and Jalin Marshall, S's Vonn Bell and Tyvis Powell and CB Eli Apple.

I would guess Thomas and Bell go, Powell and Marshall stay.  not that the cupboard is by any means empty, but they lose a lot

Maybe drafted late based on athleticism, but he isn't making an active roster with his football skills as they currently are. Great athlete that isn't a great football player yet.

Obviously losing the Amount of Talent OSU has would be detrimental to any team, don't know if it matters as much because we play them the last game of the year.

They lose Cook, Burbridge, Kings Jr., two OL including Jack Allen, their starting TE and FB, 3 starting DL, a starting LB and starting CB to the draft.

The only potential early entries are really OT Jack Conklin, who's a first rounder andwill hopefully/probably leave, and other starting OT Kodi Kieler who's a mid round projection but will probably stay.

Theoretically LB Riley Bullough and CB Darien Hicks could leave too and get drafted this year, but both will almost 100% stay.

Thats a lot of stretching - 3 of these are like saying Jarrod Wilson or Countess would leave early last year for the draft.

It Conklin or bust.

Kieler was demolished by Bama's line and is an adequate tackle in the Big 10 - not a NFL early entry. Hicks is an average Big 10 CB without great size - wouldnt even get drafted IMO.  Those are not early entry types.  Neither is Bullough.

Also they are getting 3 guys back for a 6th year apparently incl Ed Davis, a DT, and a OL.

MSU folk seem confident they will succeed with all 3.

Ed Davis is the hilarious one - he won scout team player of the week twice in the year they are claiming he was too injured to play and hence should get a 6th yr.

The NCAA seems very lax in this area - lots of loopholes (UM has benefited too so not saying we haven't.)

His draft stock won't get any higher, plus he was injured this year, which typically makes the young man think about how short your career can be.

Kieler is not good. He's a pedestrian B1G tackle at best.

Getting Davis and Knox back on D will help a bit. As we all saw, McDowell is a beast, but you have to expect some level of drop off based on what's being lost.

And say what you want about Cook, whoever wins that job will be a major downgrade.

Sparty looking at 8-4 at best next year.

Not sure Bullough or Hicks would. Bullough is really good, but is likely eventually a late round pick as a SR. Hicks I don't think would get drafted period. Safety/CB tweener that doesn't really fit what NFL people want (not tweener in a good way that is)

Bama has showed the world exactly what to do when Sparty sells out for the run: throw the ball downfield.  It's too bad Rudock and his receivers didn't fully "get on the same page" until after the Sparty game, but that's in the past.

Bottom line: if Michigan has a QB next year who can throw the ball downfield as well as Rudock did against Florida, Sparty can bring everyone back and it isn't going to matter.  I think O'Korn and Peters will both fit that description.
