OSU has zero O-line depth to start the season

Submitted by m1jjb00 on

Suspensions have apparelntly used up all of OSU's depth on the offensive line.  Adams's 5-game suspension is well known, but apparently Corey Linsley is suspended for 2 games according to 247.  He's not on the 2 deep that OSU released as part of its game notes.  Back ups at all five positions include 2 guys who were unrated as recruits (Kramer and Blackman) and three freshman.  Hall is starting at guard where Linsley was expected to start and Norwell is in at left tackle for Adams.

Our O-line next year looks like this pending transfer or early departure. RS-JR Lewan,   RS-SR Barnum. RS-SR Koury, RS-SR Omameh, RS-JR Schofield. Backups RS-SR mealer, SO Bryant, SO Miller, SO Glasgow, SO Yerden, RS-JR Gunderson and incoming freshman. We should be worried about 2013, since we lose 3-5 starters to graduation and lewan to the NFL is a possibility.

Eh, the only back-up tackles you listed there are walk-ons...yes, very highly regarded walk-ons, but still.  Hopefully they can step up, but not an ideal situation at all.  And the freshman will be true freshman, and I don't think any of us want a true freshman lineman on the 2-deep if at all possible.  At least in 2013, the freshman will be in their second year (RS) and considering the class we are bringing in, I think we'll have some pretty good starters by that time.

Eh, I wouldn't say our OL would be that deprived.  Still got Mealer and Schofield (Elliot is listed as the backup to both guard positions IIRC), and Magnuson and Kalis should be ready to contribute right away at tackle IF NEEDED.  Center, however, worries since Pace is donions.

I'd say OSU right now is in a far worst boat.

Klein, Sweet and Sabino are starting as expected.  But back ups are Tony Jackson (unrated senior w/ little experience), Chris Maxwell (unrated rSR who was listed as a DB in the spring) and Ryan Shazier (a hotshot freshman).

Too bad the beginning of their schedule is pretty easy. Should make the trap game against Toledo more interesting at least. Toledo has a legitimate shot to pull that upset

I don't know, I don't really want to invest my time thinking that they'll suck... but it's kinda hilarious, I mean, they all are 'glad' that the youngsters are stepping up... (Nine starters are either freshmen or sophomores, of the 22 players on the defensive two-deep, only six are seniors, and only three of those are starters, four of the top backups on the offensive line are freshmen + Blackman) I have been there, before the 2008 season, and I think we all know how painful a 1st year starter at QB can be, I just hope it bites them in the ass...

The buckeye fanbase is oblivious to everything because "The buckeye's third string players would be starters for any other B1G team." Impending doom is in sight but their own arrogance keeps them from seeing it.
