I don't think people understand, Urban Meyer is not going to be the next head coach at Ohio State. I doubt Meyer, a guy that can basically have his pick of jobs that open, will want to walk into that situation. What coach would, let alone the top coaching candidate in the country?

as ugly as it is you will be locked in for a decent time at a very high price, giving a good coach time to install his system with little pressure to provide championships "RIGHT NOW", and who knows if the fallout ends in post-season ban, but if it does then thats even less pressure, while building and installing a system. good facilities, a campus crazy about football,
and as much as we laugh, it IS Ohio State, they will rebound, just as we are rebounding.you all laugh but i can see rich rod / bill stewart/ jeff casteel reunite down the road and well 2 of the 3 are out of coaching jobs and the 3rd (casteel) wants to coach with the other two given the chance.

It's about time the NCAA finally got serious by informing OSU that they were being accused of failure to moniter (which is the real news in all of this). I think the NCAA will see their humerous scholarship reductions and raise them 10-15 scholarships over that same period.

tsio = Head Coach cheats and they lose 5 scholarships and NO bowl ban
Somehow ... that just doesn't seem to have a relationship to reality at all.
Also - hey Delany ... get off the tsio "fanclub" and do your fucking job. Or does the B1G now tolerate cheaters at any level without you doing anything ? Time to remove Delany if he doesn't penalize conference schools that KNOWINGLY disregard the rules.

the "pain" starts after this season. The bowl ban is currently in effect ... so once they become eligible to play in the bowls - they'll have fewer scholarship players. This is a real punishment, considering it was ONE player (Reggie Bush) from one booster.
Tressel, being the Head Coach and involving multiple players is (IMO) much more defiant of the NCAA rules. This "ain't" rocket science.

It's 2-2-1. And keep in mind that the reductions are not cumulative. They are limited to 83 for 2012, 2013, and then 84 for 2014. They get to hand out two less schollies in 2012 than would otherwise be allowed (a meaningless punishment since their class is way below par anyways). In 2013, they hand out the same amount that they otherwise would. In 2014, they hand out one more than they otherwise would because they are going from 83 total schollies to 84. In 2015, they hand out another extra one. Really what they call a five scholarship penalty for three years is actually a two scholarship penalty for one year.
The effect of scholarship penalties is overrated. The penalties as they are structured only affect one recruiting class.

Obviously five scholarships over three years isn't a big penalty, but it's better than nothing. Think if we couldn't sign two of the guys we signed last year. Without having hindsight, that could have really hurt. And if we couldn't make up for it in the following class.

ESPN Article says that OSU will appear again before the NCAA on December 10th to answer the new allegations.
That probably means another three months after the Dec. 10th hearing date before the NCAA issues its findings. Thats well past signing day. Guessing the uncertainty might help us with Brionte Dunn (or at least I hope it does).
The article spells out a little more detail about the new NCAA allegations. Best part:
"the NCAA said Ohio State "failed to educate football student-athletes about DiGeronimo, encourage them to cease interaction with him or inquire about their potential employment with DiGeronimo and attendance at the charity event."
DiGeronimo's charity, called Cornerstone of Hope, was involved with a secondary violation involving a lack of paperwork in 2006. In its response, Ohio State said it told DiGeronimo to stop interacting with coaches, visiting athletic facilities and being around the program.
However, the school still allowed athletes to work at DiGeronimo's company and attend his charity events -- though it said players were strongly encouraged to fill out the necessary paperwork to do so.
Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said in a statement that the school accepts "that we should have done more to oversee Mr. DiGeronimo's activities."
COME ON!!! How the hell does this Smith guy manage to continue to draw a paycheck from OSU?

We'll see how that goes, but it doesn't sound like OSU wants to go to the COI meeting on the 10th. It sounds like this has been in the works for a while, so a final conclusion might be quicker than usual.

Least it delays things further. The longer the NCAA delays, the longer before OSU can move on. I believe the standard protocol iS 90 days after the meeting witht he NCAA before the school gets an answer. This will put them out until spring and definitely leave the remainder of the year and into signing day where there won't be an answer. The cloud of uncertainty should hurt them as much or more as whatever sanctions are coming.

I think OSU considered self-imposing a bowl ban, but that was when a) it looked like we wouldn't be bowl eligible, or wouldn't be in a good bowl, and b) Fickell was definitely a one & done coach and it'd give the new guy a head start on recruiting.
