OSU Denying Additional Pryor Violations

Apparently Ohio State is now saying that Pryor never told them about any of the additional stuff dealing with Sarniak.

Interestingly raises a couple questions:

Would Pryor lie about that to make a stronger case to get into the supplemental draft?

OR

Is OSU still using the same playbook and denying any wrongdoing here, seeing that it may be working?

I think number 2 is the case even though number one is possible (remember how OSU treated Clarett after he was investigated!).

Grem, you need to be careful, a statement as explicit as "if you do this I will give you 10 grand" both could be construed as a binding contract and make you an accessary to the destruction of public property (albeit the greatest, most awesome, destruction of public property ever).

Donk, while I in no way encourage your proposed destruction of the sewer that is known as the horseshoe, I would be highly impressed, you would go to the top of my list of favorite MGoPosters, and I will upvote every one of your posts forever.

Well, there is an easy way to find out who is lying -- the NCAA. If Pryor told something to the NCAA, they have a record of it. Maybe Pryor told the NCAA and then never told OSU that he told the NCAA, but the NCAA knows what he did and didn't tell them. It seems stupid for either one of them to lie.

I am sure, given all that has gone on, that there are regular back and forth conversations between the NCAA and OSU. But, no, I highly doubt the NCAA automatically gives a heads up to programs every time they receive information about a violation. The formal notices the NCAA provides are a Notice of Inquiry and a Notice of Allegations. The NCAA might have received information in May during an interview with TP and has been investigating those violations (along with all of the other reports) since that time. We will know for sure whether TP admitted to additional violations when the NCAA issues either a NOI or a second NOA.

I was under the impression he told the NCAA about the payments so Ohio claiming he never told them is perfectly fine.  He told the NCAA which is all that really matters.

If he only told the NCAA and not OSU, at least the NCAA cannot charge OSU with lying (or hiding additional violations) when it filed its written response to the NOA and answered questions at the August 12 hearing. But, if Pryor did accept money and benefits from Sarniak after the NCAA told him he could not in 2008, then these are new/additional violations that will result in a second NOA and a second hearing. And more penalties.

But if Pryor never told OSU about the additional violations, but did tell the NCAA, then OSU's reasoning for suspending Pryor for the entire season if he would have returned is moot. They said that the reason he would have gotten a whole season and the others only got 5 games is because he didn't cooperate with NCAA investigators.

I just hope the NCAA decides to get to the bottom on this disconnect between Pryor and the school.

One of them is lying, and I can almost guarantee its OSU.

And I love how OSU thinks they can just get rid of the "culprits" of the wrongdoing and then say, it wasn't the schools fault it was these other people.

That's not how it works. Saint Tressel and Pryor were the school, or extensions of it, when the crimes went down. When you hire a coach and recruit a player, thats part of the deal. And when those people mess up, the school ultimately has to be the one who pays the price.

OSU just keeps acting like this separate, and innocent, entity and what pisses me off the most is that the NCAA seems to be buying in to it.

We'll find out soon enough (well... relatively) how much they are actually buying it.  I have a feeling that this mess with Miami along with all of the other violations coming out lately will force the NCAA's hand to start spanking more and slapping hands less.  We will see if they bust out the big boy paddle for tOSU.

"And I love how OSU thinks they can just get rid of the "culprits" of the wrongdoing and then say, it wasn't the schools fault it was these other people."

This philosophy worked perfectly with Maurice Clarrett.  Didn't Clarrett pretty much come out and say players were getting cars, etc. but the smear campaign by OSU worked so well most everyone just ignored Clarrett.

Ohio's whole strategy through this thing has been minimize and deny until enough evidence surfaces that you can't deny any more. Of course they said this. That doesn't mean its true. It just means they think they can get away with this stance a little while longer.

Gee shared beds with Emmert while Paul Dee sits on the COI throne after having 'plausible deniability (thx Cam)' at the U. The whole charade is reaching Swiftian levels of reality.

Sarniak provided car payments for Pryor, according to the ESPN article.  My guess is the NCAA easily discovered this while doing its investigation into Pryor's use of multiple cars (that investigation was announced a couple months ago).

Because Sarniak's financial entanglement involves the cars Pryor was driving, that hurts OSU immensely.  The school is supposed to be paying close attention to the cars its players drive.  Pryor sporting multiple different rides should have alerted the school to this situation long ago.

Apparently the NCAA has been poring over Pryor's bank accounts (see the article).  I'm willing to bet you a brown jug that some knucklehead booster or a disreputable photographer wrote Pryor a personal check, and he cashed it.  With the idiocy we've seen thus far, it's almost inevitable.

you think the NCAA has a check from a booster with Pryor's name on it...and that they have yet to make any additional allegations, depsite going ahead with the COI?  So they are waiting for a big "GOTCHA!" moment?  When?  2012?  Right before The Game?  I'll try to be clear, if you believe that, you are a fucking idiot.

Tomorrow, we may see the beginning of the end for OSU.

Ellis testimony tomorrow may confirm additional violations by Pryor which suggest OSU's lack of institutional monitoring.  The question: How was Pryor able to take all of the OSU merchandise without it being known by OSU staff?

From the SI piece:

Ohio State's conclusion that only six players broke the rules is based in part on a list of the items the Department of Justice seized in raids of Fine Line Ink and [Edward] Rife's home on May 1, 2010. But that list, which mentioned 42 football-related items that Rife bought, received or acquired in trades from players, covered only a small fraction of what he got from the Buckeyes, Ellis says. "Eddie had storage units all over town," he says, "and he also sold some stuff off to people." (Through Palmer, his lawyer, Rife declined to comment on his involvement with Ohio State players.) Ellis estimates that Pryor alone brought in more than 20 items, including game-worn shoulder pads, multiple helmets, Nike cleats, jerseys, game pants and more. One day Ellis asked Pryor how he was able to take so much gear from the university's equipment room. Ellis says the quarterback responded, "I get whatever I want."

I have a feeling items have been disappearing from the equipment room at tosu for years.  Pryor's roomate (?) from the OTL special claimed that Pryor was allowed to take whatever he wanted from the school.  Someone at that school had to know what was going on and tosu better hope they don't have pictures, phone records and bank statements like Shapiro at Miami.

This is what has me scratching my head with the Tatgate.  It wasn't like Pryor (not to mention the other players) was going to the local sporting goods store and buying a fake OSU helmet, jersey or shoulder pads.  I would think this would have to show that either OSU had absolutely no monitoring of the equipment room, didn't want to monitor the equipment or knew something weird was going on with equipment consistently missing and needing to be replaced but decided to stick their hands in the sand.  Either one should be portraying the athletic department in some sort of negative light with the ncaa.

“@mortreport: While Ohio State denied any new disclosures by Pryor, ESPN has obtained documents confirming May 20 meeting w NCAA & bank records supplied

COB

that means they found nothing, otherwise it would have been in the revised NOA sent in June and they would have postponed the COI meeting.  If there was any legit additional violations stemming from that disclosure, we all would know about it by now.

even if OSU denies they knew nothing and the ncaa can't prove OSU knew anything, aren't we starting to enter USC territory here?  Didn't USC claim they knew nothing about the extra benefits Bush received and the ncaa was never able to prove USC did know?

USC still got nailed with no postseason for a few years and a pretty good hit with reduction of scholarships.

I think TP is still Tryin to cover-up for Osu because he thinks they hold key to him getting in the league, if someone would offer the right surcome stance then I think TP would tell it all, and blow this case wide open... it evolves around him
