OSU DB dismissed for "violation of team rules"

Submitted by Leaders And Best on

OSU DB and recognized Scholar-Athlete Najee Murray was reportedly dismissed for the dreaded "violation of team rules." Murray tore his ACL last year and was one of the lower rated recruits in Meyer's first recruiting class. Potential All-American Bradley Roby is still on the team after his assault charge though. And Murray has reportedly already found a landing spot at Louisville with former Florida and Meyer assistant Charlie Strong.  I will let you draw your own conclusions.

The part of Football where they play the games can't get here soon enough.

I understand the rivalry, but this crap gets really old. I'd at least like to wait for a few facts before we go all M-Live and start putting double quotes around everything.

I don't understand why people get so worked up over small things. The interesting part to me is that when OSU has dismissed players under Meyer so far, it has usually been for generic things like violation of team rules where no specifics are given and most are non-contributors or low rated recruits (Najee Murray, Tyrone Williams, DerJuan Gambrell, Timothy Gardner). But in cases where there are specific criminal charges or investigations for starters or star recruits, most of those players have gotten second chances (Bradley Roby, Carlos Hyde, Storm Klein, Jake Stoneburner, Jack Mewhort, Marcus Baugh, Brionte Dunn).

with facts and everything. I'm certainly not suggesting that Meyer isn't the antichrist, or that no one attends that place who is not a choirboy.

What makes me go arrrrrrrgh are all the hurr-durr assumptions.

It might just be a matter of stance. I hold it to be self-evident that Columbus and everything darkened by it's shadow is evil. I don't need to constantly reinforce that, and I really like the football team to take care of the rivalry, not fans.

In the grand scheme it does make sense to fend off the speculation by losing some non key players so they can be used as martyrs to say "Hey i discipline my players!" Especially in light of the Hyde situation. Also, wouldn't this free up room for schollies? Seems to do nothing but benefit Urbs. His true motive seems thinly veiled though.

So basically you are saying that he is treating the players (Hyde, Roby, etc.) with the specific public charges differently than he is treating the players he dismissed who did...oh wait - you have absolutely no idea what those players did and are just speculating with zero info. Thanks for the insight.

Urban Meyer, right or wrong, already had a reputation for playing favorites with lax and inconsistent discipline from the University of Florida. He has done nothing at Ohio State so far to dispel that notion. The point I was making was that starters and incoming star recruits who have had public arrests and criminal charges have been given second chances. Most of the players he has dismissed so far have been noncontributors for unspecified violation of team rules where some of these players had no arrests or academic trouble (like in Najee Murray's case). That is going to open you up to speculation.

Given what some of the other starting players received as punishment, what could Murray have possibly done to get dismissed from the team? He was a Scholar-Athlete so poor academic performance is unlikely. There is no arrest record that we know of. Multiple drug violations is unlikely as he received no previous suspension in the past that we know of.

Who knows? Maybe Urban has some three strike policy and Najee screwed up three times. Maybe it was worse than others what other did...i dont know so its a waste of time for me to give my opinion on this.

Facts are..he is off the team for violation and no reason was given. OSU now has even less depth at cornerback. Talk about what that means for them on the field because they now have less depth with Roby maybe out for a few games if you want ...but Im not sure why we need to do posts that just are based on speculation with no facts along with a competition to see who can be the biggest comedian.

I may have confused pearlw with keepemhonest.  Sorry for the confusion, pearl.

Go16blue- it must be nice to live in the naive world that you live in.  I'm sorry if I don't assume that everything Urban does is on the up and up, like you do.  It's pretty telling when even several in the delusional Buckeye fanbase are starting to question the validity of this latest dismissal, while letting others slide.  Besides, if this kid is so bad that he can't play for OSU, why is Urban calling his buddy at Louisville and telling him that the kid is good enough to play for them, just not his team?...is it just to find a nice landing spot for a kid that wasn't cutting it at OSU...and recovering from a blown out ACL?  These are valid questions, given Urban's behavior of allowing those in the circle of trust to get away with much more.

no buckeye troll..you may think all of my posts on michigan softball were an attempt to mask a buckeye identity but sadly mistaken.

as the other person said, its posts like this that make michigan fans look bad and this is the type of stuff that we criticize msu and osu fans about.

If Michigan dismissed the 3rd or 4th string CB from the team for violation of team rules, would people here be speculating about the reason why he was dismissed or the impact on the field?

For as tight-lipped Hoke has been, all player dismissals under him have been laid out pretty clearly. Stonum was suspended for a year before he was dismissed. Same deal Will Hagerup finds himself in now with a year long suspension with another violation leading to dismissal. And these players were starters.

I didn't say speculation was unreasonable, I said his post was reasonable.  Which it is.  I'm fine with the speculation, but someone being willing to give him the benefit of the doubt doesn't make him a Buckeyes fan.  Real life example: I'm incline to believe that Urban is probably using a double-standard, but I also think it's possible that, at least in this case, there isn't one.  Arrests and problems that occur in the public eye aren't the only ways players can get kicked off a team or have problems.

You're right that Stonum and Hagerup have been handled well by the coaching staff/administration, but it's not like any more details were provided in those instances.  Hagerup was suspended for "violation of team rules", and Stonum for “behavior that is unbecoming of a Michigan football player.”

But the players (who were all not stars) whom Urban kicked off the team for undisclosed violations did not do anything illegal (or if they did, the University did not report it, which is worse). Also, if the offenses were because they did something heinous, somebody would have reported it/ Urban wouldn't have facilitated a "transfer" to a friend's D1 program.

Nice, a mom comeback. So he used "dreaded". I don't see how that has anything to do with my reply to your original post. Also, you are pulling a 'Mr. Rager' here and getting all bent out of shape over one word. Take it easy champ. Sit the next couple of plays out, if you know what I mean.

Urban: "Whelp, if the media's going to hold me accountable for this discipline thing, I might as well make it work for me!"

(Scans roster for unproductive backups).

I'm not going to make any assumptions......However, so far 2 lower rated recruits are gone and the contributors are allowed to be waited on. So yea that sounds about right for Urbs.
