OSU Apologists vs. JT Scandal. What do you enjoy more?

Submitted by Fresh Meat on

I'm just curious what people enjoy more.  The vehement, blind defense of JT by OSU diehards, that blindly defend their coach against a mountain of evidence is pretty entertaining.  Both their absurd anger and their horribly blind defense are wildly entertaining.

On the other hand, we have JT finally taking crap for being a slime ball.  It seems like it has taken so long (see Brian's front page post of all the things he's gotten away with), and to finally see some form of justice, albeit slight so far, is very satisfying.

Personally, I love seeing the dirt on JT most.  Thoughts?

I love it all!!!  I live in Columbus and have heard so much crap about Michigan, "dickrod", "hokeless/hoke is a joke/..." practicegate, 9-1, yada yada...It's nice to see them squirm and try to defend these actions.  I've met JT, he's a nice guy and all but he broke the rules and should be punished.  He deserves the critisim because he broke MAJOR ncaa rules by covering up and lying to them.   It is unacceptable.

I'm really curious to see if any more stones get turned and are made public.

I'm digging the whole thing. My your city burn to ashes due to the fallout.

In the future after the radiation wears off they will have field trips to the crater that was once C-bus and it will be explained that the crater and ensuing radiation was caused by the shitshow program that fell apart due to cheating coach who was a cheating coach at another program but they didn’t care because it more important to beat the mighty blue school from the north. It will also be explained that these people from the truck drivers U idolized a man who lost a ten year war with the mighty northern blue school and final act as its leader was to punch a guy in his throat.

If they're guilty, I absolutely want to see them punished, but I don't really take pleasure in all this.  I'll be much happier if it translates to wins over them on the field.  Remember the last round of hilarity from Columbus?  Jim O'Brien was fired for actually paying a recruit out of his own pocket.  They hired Matta, took their medicine for a year and prompty were much better than they had been under O'Brien.

Now, if this whole affair results in OSU firing Tressel and hiring the football equivalent of Brian Ellerbe, yes, I will laugh - hard.

The nightmare scenario: OSU cans Tressel, and then Urban Meyer (an Ohio native) decides he wants to get back into coaching.

In fairness to Jim O'Brien, he was cleared of all wrong doing (his crime was that he wasn't Thad Matta).

O'Brien claimed Ohio State improperly fired him and sued the university for $3.5 million in lost wages and benefits. O'Brien argued his loan did not violate NCAA bylaws because he knew Radojevic already had lost his amateur status by playing for money overseas. At trial, Geiger, NCAA lead investigator Steve Duffin both testified that O'Brien made the loan for humanitarian reasons, not as an inducement to get Radojevic to sign with Ohio State. NCAA infractions committee chairman David Swank testified that O'Brien's actions did not violate NCAA rules. A judge found Ohio State had breached the contract and awarded O'Brien $2.4 million. The award was upheld on appeal to the Ohio Court of Appeals and Ohio Supreme Court.[4]

Yes, then the NCAA ruled him ineligible for getting some money from a pro team in Bosnia ($9000).  Similar to Enes Kanter and UK this year.

It was after he was ruled ineligible that O'Brien lent him money to help pay for medicine for his dying father in Bosnia.  He tried to cover it up, OSU got mad, fired him, he sued, he won.

I work at a bank near Columbus (ugh) and Fridays we are allowed to wear OSU stuff, which I would never do.  Our president forbids any Michigan apparel, so normally I just wear a polo or something.

However, this Friday I'm thinking about purchasing an OSU shirt with a picture of Tressel on it and writing "WWTD - What Would Tressel Do?".  I know that normally, wearing any kind of OSU wear is strictly forbidden, but since I'm wearing it sarcastically to rub salt in the wounds of all my Buckeye co-workers it should be okay, right?

I got a bit of joy out of the apologists' coments, but reading more than a few at a time is painful.  I know the quality is similar over at mlive, and maybe I've been spoiled here, but the butchery of the English language in those posts is appalling. Most of the time, I have trouble even identifying where sentences end. Between the punctuation and spelling, the posts read like a dyslexic CC student trying to emulate James Joyce.

In the end, I hope his program gets nutured - but that he remains their coach. It would be so gratifying seeing our boys in blue run up and down the field as he watches his shell of a team getting destroyed year in and year out and him being able to do nothing about it. With the slimy cogs removed from his program that made it so successful over the past decade, the power will shift back north where it belongs. Soon enough they'll lose their edge in recruiting and performance and it'll take them a while to recover.

Karama's a bitch isn't it Tressel?

I know we all want to see competitive games between Michigan and OSU, but after this last decade with JT at the helm, squirming his way to victory, I wouldn't mind seeing some Michigan Basketball-esque futility (after the Ed Martin Scandal) rain down on Ohio. Probably won't happen, but I can dream can't I?

Everyone in the media seems to be badmouthing OSU right now.  I absolutely love it.  They've been successful at covering up their dirt over the years, but hopefully no more.  If the NCAA were to set up shop in Columbus and started looking under a lot of rocks, I'm sure there would be more than enough slime to keep the Suckeyes on probation for years to come.

I'm in Toledo for the day, which normally I would be pissed about but listening to sports talk radio has been AWESOME!!!

Worthwhile note, the majority of OSU fans are calling for the firing of Tressel immediately.

I love the fact that the media is just destroying the reputation of both JT and the school in ohio. So far, I think the self inposed sanctions are a joke but am hopefull the NCAA will do their job this time. After allowing so much to slide by, and taking alot of heat after Cam Newton I want them to not slap him on the wrist but break his arm. (Compliments of The Lantern) Realistically speaking, I see JT  "retiring" at the end of this season, if not before hand.

BTW, what an incredible difference between this and the BYU case.  The funny thing is that BYU did the complete opposite of OSU - they openly acknowledged a violation of their honor code, when they could have easily let it slide - and quite a few people criticized them for it.

The apologists comments because it does my favorite thing: Exposse message board moral police guys as the hypocrites most of them are.

They couldn't get enough of Stretchgate and now watching them (and their Sparty Bedfellows) rationalize this--and blame the rules and rulemakers--is akin to waking up on Christmas morning and finding that yes, there is a Santa Clause and he DID hear my wish for a new Big Wheel.
