OSU AD Smith tired of angry emails about The Game

Submitted by umich1 on

The Columbus Dispatch ran a mailbag story this morning about the backlash over the proposal to move The Game. Included in the mailbag was this little tidbit:

"Perceived or not, such dormant feelings among the populace have surfaced to the point that Smith was moved to make a video Friday explaining the scheduling process and more or less asking for the angry e-mails to desist: "I don't need any more," he said."

Well, I think the emails are at least giving them a wake up call.  Hopefully it all works out.

This idiot just opened a big can of worms. When you tell people NOT to do something, they in return will do it 10x more than originally. I now will be sending Emails for the rest of the day. Excuse me.

I'm pretty sure the RR's threat to fight Terrelle Pryor "prison style" inspired the OSU qb to his Rose Bowl winning performance last January.  Now if we can just get him to throw his (considerable) muscle behind the move to save the game, we'll have nothing to worry about (unless "we" includes Jim Delaney, who will almost certainly be put in a sleeper hold by the 9 inch pythons of the Redneck Rocker).

For a Buckeye, Smith seemed rather reasonable to me. So I figured perhaps people should look at the original source material before ripping on the guy.

That Dispatch writer put a certain spin on what Smith said, and I'm always suspicious of someone using weaselly words such as "more or less"--as in "more or less asking for the angry e-mails to desist."

1.  Both Michigan and OSU will leak reports of how angry fans are with changing the date of The Game.  Both AD's will comment on it, there will be stories sympathetic to the fans, the whole schtick.

2.  Once actual football begins, the angry calls will start to lessen in number, since there's other things to worry about now.  Not that this issue takes a backseat to anything, but people will divide their attention with the games being played.

3.  The Big Ten will take this as a sign that the fans understand where the conference is coming from, and will push forward with a stupidly hated idea.

4.  The Big Ten will announce that, "after listening to so many fans", Michigan and Ohio State will play in late-August from now on.  College football fans will gnash their teeth, and Jim Delany will happily congratulate himself on a job well done.

Just you watch.  This will happen, unfortunately.
