That is a relief, and I like how Rodriguez handled it. He got tweaked by the Freep a bit (surprise!), and I am not sure that's how Carr would have done it, but, to me, the coach is there to protect his players. Let the coach take the heat. The story becomes Rodriguez not taking action, not whatever Ortmann did. This is not as egregious as the Spikes' eye gouge, or when Sorgi got attacked by an OSU defensive tackle. (Okay, I admit, a little bit of Urban Meyer slickness is necessary these days.)

Kind of surprised they didn't suspend him, but clearly happy with the results. May have something to do with the fact that Zook didn't rant about it for days on end, and the fact that the Illinois player was almost tea bagging him at the time.

We got lucky here (even though Ortmann hasn't been anything close to spectacular this year). He had better atone for last week by doing a spot-on Jake Long impression against the Boilermakers. Slightly OT, is there a more boring Big Ten team than Purdue? Has anyone ever been able to even muster a mild dislike for them? Jesus, even their uniforms could put you to sleep.

Aside from their hook and ladder play, that whistle was the most annoying thing about playing there last year (ok maybe behind Michigan quarterbacking and losing to their 3rd string RB/QB.)

Based on what else has been suspendable offenses in the eyes of the Conference this season, Ortmann got lucky. Really, really lucky. Probably should have been a suspension in that regard.
That being said, the Conference has been very, very quick on the trigger finger to suspend guys this season. Even at that, I'd rather a Michigan guy not even get himself in the position where a suspension was even considered. Win and lose with dignity and class.

Being a good sport is transcending it, getting up, and heading to the sideline. Taking a cheap shot at the guy's junk, whether he "deserved" it or not, isn't Michigan football.
And if that is what Michigan football is now, I have a pretty big problem with that.

Players have been doing it since the beginning of time. I have a problem with taking a cheap shot, but I don't think that this is something Michigan football has become. I think it's something that football in general has always been.
