Hoke did a better job at SDSU than that record implies. They hadn't had a winning season in a decade when he arrived, but he got them to 9-4 in his second season before leaving for Michigan. They've had five consecutive winning seasons now, which suggests he left a good foundation.

Ball State did not improve significantly under Hoke until Stan Parrish arrived. Stan is a great QB coach and good offensive mind, but not much of a HC, just look at what he did at K-State. Ball State has improved back to being a barely above .500 program since Stan was fired.
Rocky Long on the other hand had better success at UNLV, had been a HC longer, and was a good D-Coordinator as well.

it's a helluva down grade.
He would not just be changing Famiies, but Orders as well.
From Carnivora to Rodentia.
How easy would it be for you?

Somewhere down the road there could be a Hoke vs Rodriguez game .... and that, well thats just nifty.

They also better be prepared for a lot of great practices.

Curious if Pelini would consider Oregon State. He might feel he can be in line for a higher caliber. That is a tough place to really win more than 8 games (which hell - is what Pelini does).
I'd take Pelini over Hoke if I were OSU but again, OSU is not exactly in a position to dictate terms. They are basically the Kansas of that conference.

OSU has sprung some good upsets over the years. I'd take the OSU job over Kansas any day. If I'm Pelini, I'd go out there and recruit a tough team that does to Oregon what Stanford does then come back to my alma mater (tOSU) when Meyer retires for the third time.

I think Brady has connections to the AD as well. I wish Brady and his family the best. It would add some spice to our game with Oregon State for sure.

And if he follow's Rich Rod's lead, he'll be Pac-12 coach of the year in 2017.

Congratulations Coach!
I expected him to be picked up by an FBS school and I hope he gets the job. I expect he will do well there, too.

I hope you become the winningest coach in Oregon State history if you go there.

How does that press conference go?
"Lost 14 of his last 18 games against power 5 schools. Didn't bring Mattison with him."
Not going to happen.

The last guy to leave here had gone 8-21 against power 5 schools, and the press conference at his next stop went just fine.
I think the national perception, maybe not at ESPN but among football people, is that it's the Michigan program that's dysfunctional, not the coaches. Older members of their fanbase will remember Hoke and they won't have any problem selling the hire if that's the direction they go.

Based on where the bar is being set for football coaches, and the salaries they are commanding, I'm beginning to think I chose the wrong line of work.
