Riley was raised in Corvalis, and grew up watching OSU while his dad coached there. It seems to me, with this type of deep connection, you could get a guy to stay without offering a "lifetime" contract.

I thought a certain coach from a team that combines two completely unrelated animals, whose name rhymes with Fryin' Nelly, also signed a contract extension this season before bolting to one of the top three teams in the state of Indiana? Then again, perhaps I am mistaken. Edit: Am not mistaken, he signed an extension in June, and was ready to sign another one in December before he bolted.

Given how bad OSU was for so many years, is this really such a bad idea. Even if there are a couple down years before Riley retires , can you really say OSU did not get its end of the bargain if the status quo at OSU continues for a decade or more.

It probably doesn't matter. Mike Riley has turned USC down before for the same reasons he will stay in Corvalis now. He spent his formative years rooting for the Beavers and considers that his home town. He loves it there and isn't likely to leave for a possible disaster awaiting him at USC. It just isn't going to happen.

Yeah, I know that Riley has done good things at OSU, but not even close to what deserves a life time contract. I mean to get something of that nature i would expect at least 1 NC
