Orange Bowl Open Thread (probably unavoidably CC)

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
I mean, with all the broadcast talk, the Gator Bowl should have been labeled CC. After today, I don't think it's avoidable. But they're actually playing a football game too.

What the board breakdown would be for those rooting for Stanford, and those rooting against them to say "see, I told you". Those with non-betting interests, of course.

I am decidedly rooting for the Hokies +4

I wouldnt lie about that

Were you around in 2007. I am sure you were but the Haloscan days are like my college memories. Hazy.

Remember how quickly fans turned on Tedford, Grobe or whomever when something bad happened to their team. Thankfully we didnt have the forum yet.

I'm not expecting that to reflect one's desire or feelings towards Harbaugh or Rich, but a more rational outcome based and wallet affecting choice. You put your money where your mouth is; but if you have no monetary interest, you're going with your heart more than your head.

I really like both teams. Due to family, I am, for sure, a Va Tech fan. It's one of my side loyalties.

But, I've been a lifelong Harbaugh fan. Favorite player growing up. I actually cheered for the Bears because of him, lol. I predictably have been quite taken by his Stanford teams over the years.

Lets see. No money involved. Maybe VT because I will always be a fan of their program. I'd rather high five my cousins over the phone in a few hours rather than talking them off another WTF Beamer Ball ledge

Whereas I probably wont be a Stanford fan anymore sometime after lunchtime on Thursday

If anything, excluding you. Because I knew ultimately you wanted VT to win, or lose by less than four. Which makes perfect sense. And I know one you have an "interest" how hard it is to have "likes". I mean, there's a whole other way people would be rooting and reacting to this game if Stanford was coaches by, say, Dennis Green, than the current coach. In apparently, both directions.

I'm torn. I feel scorned by the "CC" talk such that I kind of want Stanford to get hammered. On the other hand, I would hate it if that is the case and he brings that momentum to Michigan (if that's how it unfolds). Put differently, I'm so torn that I'm indifferent.

I think I'd understand some of the lol hate from some (not you) if there was a chance it would change Rich's fate, legitimately. But if it (likely) means our next coach looks bad...or if instead of him we then get someone who would REALLY piss them off...I don't get it so much. But maybe if Stanford loses by 50, we'll keep Rich. Who knows?

You know, the way everything's gone since Bo died (not all bad, but all unpredictable and weird), I wouldn't be shocked. Surprised, maybe, but I've seen stranger things. "Sailboat" comes to mind.

That with every play thinking "yeah we could do that" or "our team could adapt to that formation".  Especially, the catch by the lineman in the endzone for the safety.

It's almost as if the Stanford linemen don't even know the basic rules of the game. That's on the coach.

/remember that  blocked kick when our guys didn't jump on it and everyone blamed RR?

//I do

And say that isn't in the top 10 of your reasons...to be fair. I mean, you haven't praised one thing about VT, just dogged JH, so I'll take a wild guess, and while I believe you when you say you liked the school, that's not really your motivation at all.

Botched fake punt (Remember the freakout when Zoltan ran for it a year ago?) and a dumbass punt returner fields one at the 5 to set up a safety (Remember all the vitriol directed at Jeremy Gallon this year?).

Also liked hearing about Stanford's 90th ranked defense in year three under Harbaugh.  When is he going to stop blaming Teevens/Harris and just make guys good!

Fun times.

I hope he doesnt bring that play to Ann Arbor

I would guess thats all it would take for the bitchy contingent of our fanbase to jump ship if that happens vs the Irish next year

Funniest safety ever

either way, but if that pass had just hit the turf, that wouldve been an incomplete pass, right? so because that lineman caught it, it was a safety

Only 7 points in a whole quarter of play? JH doesn't know how to hire offensive minded coaches. That's on the coach. He dug his own grave at Stanford. Fire JH!
