The Opening Day 2 Open Thread
I thought I would start a new thread to discuss the action at the Opening today.
1. 7-on-7 pool play is going on today. Shane Morris opened on fire today as Land Sharks team rolled over Brice Ramsey's (UGa) squad.
Shane Morris' team RT @RecruitingESPN Land Sharks beat Vapor Carbon, 27-6
Michigan QB commit Shane Morris is on fire in game one. Making all the right throws.
Jake Butt caught the game winning TD as his team (also Mike McCray) won their opener.
Tyrone Swoopes to Jake Butt as time expires to lift #AlphaTalon over #SuperBad 18-13 #THEOPENING
2. Linemen 1-on-1 took place earlier this morning. Unfortunately due to HS regulations in MI and OH, David Dawson and Taco Charlton could not participate with pads and had limited reps. But Taco still got rave reviews:
#Michigan commit Taco Charlton is a very athletic DE - quick and long.
Ohio players can't pad up here but Taco Charlton, wearing just a helmet, is one of the quickest ends here #Michigan
247sports: The guys from states where you can't wear pads are going now. Taco Charlton has been dominant.
3. Kyle Bosch went home sick today. Wish we could have seen him participate and hope he gets better soon.
Michigan commit Kyle Bosch headed home from #TheOpening per his family. Illness.
Well, you're not very good at showing it, trying to hurt my feelings like that... I'm very sensitive, you know.
but their are pictures posted of Taco Charlton jumping over a tackling dummy on Go Blue Wolverine.

my other new theory is that espn wants Max Browne to look as good as possible and wanted the Dual Threat QB against him on TV.
I've seen lots of Shane Morris, so I'm kind of looking forward to seeing Browne and Swoopes, anyway...
Leon McQuay intercepts Max Browne.
Dug too deep a hole in 1st half and down 25-14 now. Hopefully Shane will have his revenge tomorrow and win the 'ship. Overall sounds like he had a terrific day today along with Laquan Treadwell. Both their teams finished 2-1 (as did Jourdan Lewis' squad) while playing key roles for their teams..
Tyrone Swoopes is god awful.
This isn't really his thing. He's a dual-threat quarterback, so sitting in the pocket and being a pure passer is putting him isn't ideal for him. Denard probably wouldn't do well in this type of event, either.
but USA is in a dogfight with Canada in the U19 World Championship right now. Unlike the Opening, this is real football, and Logan Tuley-Tillman, Ethan Pocic, and Hunter Bivin are all starters on the OL. Game is being broadcast live on YouTube:
intended for Jake Butt...too bad didn't count because of the four second rule
Are we sure Max Browne isn't actually Dolph Lundgren's child? It's a pretty decent replica of the mad russian who took rocky to the limit.
Wow. Great break on the ball there for Lewis.
Lewis should be getting a bump. Realistically he should be a top 10 CB. He would be if he was committed to an SEC school.
Is anyone else catching on that ND's recruits seem to be playing above their rankings? They may have a better recruiting class than many are giving them credit for.
Anyone specifically that you're referring to?
Obviously Smith has been the best player at multiple camps this summer. Onwualu has also appeared to play above his 3 star rating at several camps as well. Robinson and Butler both 3 stars playing well today although Robinson may have something to do with Morris. Also Anzalone has been getting some mention lately as well (assuming he commits to ND).
Hmmmm...I guess you might be right. Smith is already one of the top few players in the country, so he can't really outplay those rankings. Onwualu had a good camp recently, but had a poor one earlier this summer or late in the spring. I haven't heard much about Robinson/Butler this weekend.
I wonder how long it takes to get used to catching a ball with the opposite spin? I was a lefty but since I was never on the receiving end of passes I never got to experience whether it made a difference or not.
