Open Thread/DVR Reminder: Michigan basketball @ Iowa 1:00 Big Ten Network

Submitted by ClearEyesFullHart on

Men's basketball tips off against Iowa at 1:00 today on the B1G network.  Michigan has the better team, but that has been the case for several years, and Iowa has been pesky.  Dylan(by way of Ken Pomeroy) has Michigan winning by 4 http://www.umhoops.com/2012/01/13/game-18-michigan-at-iowa-preview/#more-24200 ,

He also points out that Iowa barely shoots from downtown at all...I'm thinking woot 1-3-1?

Vegas likes Michigan by a field goal.  Beilein says Iowa is going to try to get out and run, and that Michigan will have to play significantly better than Iowa to win on the road(why does that sound familiar?)http://www.umhoops.com/2012/01/13/video-notes-quotes-john-beilein-previews-iowa/

My personal take: Iowa has serious Multiple Personality Disorder, as evidenced by their Wisky/Minny road wins vs their baby seal impersonation against those two SU schools who celebrated when Nebraska joined the conference(because they finally have a school to look down on).

That red-headed kid Aaron White is pretty good, and Basabe is still there, but I dont really think either one is ready to keep up with Novak, the Notorious SMOTRYCZ or Morgan. If Stu can slow down Matt Gatens(and all evidence suggest he WILL be able to) I like Michigan's chances.

This game is NOT loseable. Iowa is one of three teams in the conference (along with PSU and Nebraska) that a serious team has to beat at home or on the road.

Look at the schedule, folks. We piss this one away and lose Tuesday to State and things could REALLY come unraveled.

6 Assists today. That is a problem, partially a functioin of not being able to make shots. M is shooting just 33%. Not sure how much credit to give Iowa but I will give them some. They are earning it today.

Novak is trying his best to rally our troops, but Beilein screwed himself sitting our best guys, that's the biggest reason we've been out of rythm the last two games

And how hard is it for everyone to well all around, it seems like every game someone different is doing the bulk of the work, we need to figure out how to play together, that's something Darius Morris brought to the table that Burke hasn't figured out yet

Anyone else not a fan of these calls?  Don't know how Iowa has 14 fouls because I feel like every single call is against us.  We deserve to lose this game regardless though, we look horrible.

Also, we can't make a bucket with a foul for anything.  Always bounces around the rim and falls out for no three-point play.

Ugggh worst game of the year by far. Hopefully this a learn something from it and move on game rather than a tailspin-starter but holy pants did Michigan ever look terrible.

I'm just chalking this one up to having a bad day. Even in the NW win when we weren't shooting well, our defense was playing well enough in getting rebounds, etc, that kept us in the game. Plus, I don't believe we had this many mind-numbing turnovers. This will be a wakeup call to the team that they just can't walk into an inferior team's arena and expect to win.

If we follow this by being humiliated against Michigan State, then I'll look at this loss differently. For now, I'm just chalking it up to a bad day.

What is wrong with Smotrycz's hands?  His hands this game and last are like purple and look swollen?  Has this been discussed yet and does anybody know what is up with this?

This isn't a game where shots just weren't falling, we took this game off looking ahead to MSU. The true colors of this team will show itself next game, if Novak and Douglass lead this team to an all around solid victory than that shows success down the road, if not, this season will go down the drain pretty quickly

This is the first I can remember I have wanted to turn off/leave a game early in a very long time. This is going to be a struggle to finish out. Offense looks disfunctional to put it nicely.

If we come out like this for a 3rd straight game on Tuesday, we will get our asses completely handed to us. Whatever the problem is with this team needs to get addressed immediately.

I could have spent the afternoon vacuuming or dusting instead of wasting my time watching this debacle.

If they play like this on Tuesday they will lose by 30, if they are lucky.

People keep saying "This is the kind of loss that keeps you out of the tournamen.t"  That's true for bubble teams. We are not one.  We will have a better record than last year.  A bubble team is Purdue.  We are better than Purdue.
