Here we go! Second day of the most wonderful time of the year!
(Yes, I feel disgusting having just said that but I have them winning the championship, unfortunately.)
go albany fighting albanies or whatever you're called!
Founders on tap

Friday after a Michigan win
I'm in heaven
I've never had to ask for deep fried cod to be cooked more.
Must be some sort of sign.
Wow I'm just buying some time till that game. I can't even begin to imagine Marshal Henderson and Bo Ryan on the court at the same time.
NO SCHOOL TODAY! So- that just makes everything that much better! Watch ALL of the basketball!
It's some sort of Arms Race between Duke and Wisconsin as to who has the gumpiest big white dudes.
It pains me to say it, but I think I am rooting for Wisconsin the first round. I really don't like Marshall Henderson and his antics. This is one time when I am looking forward to Wisconsin grinding someone down defensivly.
that there's anything fluky about all of the SEC's losses. Ole Miss needs to go down, too.
Just found out I am working Saturday during the M game...
Im going to do my best to watch it on my phone, but idk what I will do if we lose (knocks on wood for the next hour) and I don't even get to see Trey's last game. Sorry, I am having a complete mental breakdown over this notion right now...
Time for Henderson to lose his shit on the first flop from Wiscy. I am looking forward to it.
just comes out and runs Wisconsin out of the building. I would love to see a SEC team do well this year. Also cause screw Wisconsin.
No thanks of rather the SEC continue to look like garbage.
Aggrieved Bo Ryan foul face, right on cue.
Reginald Buckner is the most SEC player and name ever.
Rootin' for 'Scansin even though I hate their fuggin' guts...I don't get it either (something to do with haha-ing the SEC as much as possible). Need Duke by double-digits for the Streak-for-the-Cash on ESPN.com today; they're doing a contest today having whoever gets the highest streak today win $5,000.
Ole Miss is looking WAY more athletic.
Damn it Wisconsin don't screw the pooch today! I hate you all but need you for two games in the tourney.
How do you beat Wisconsin? With zone defense. Who would of thought??!
It seems to me that the rest of the conference can be analogized to a barely-tamed guard dog. Teams like Wisconsin and OSU spent the past two or three months biting us constantly, but now we get to sit back and watch them bite people that actually seem to deserve it. Like Marshall Henderson.
Why does Wisconsin look so unathletic? Would have been nice to play this team. Ole Miss certainly doesn't seem more talented than us or IU.
Actually, this looks exactly like the Wisconsin we played in the first half of the tourney. 3for16 but down just 4!! I hate this team.
Plenty of seats available for the Wisky game.
I guess people would rather watch paint dry.
I realize they win, and Bo Ryan has a great record in Big Ten play, but do Wisconsin fans actually enjoy watching them play basketball? I'm sure they enjoy the winning, but they can't derive much pleasure from actually watching the games can they?
I've asked around some, there are a surprising number of students here that are happy when the team wins, but don't like to watch. Or maybe not so surprising.
I don't blame the students and alumni for just being happy with a team that wins. I was just curious if it ever gets a little frustrating. Thanks for the insight.
Remember, they drink a LOT of beer.
than you can even imagine.
That white guy for Ole Miss can't buy a bucket.
If I took a dumb after a night of drinking Busch Light and eating Toronados from Speedway, and that dump sprouted eyes, it would be Bo Ryan.
Oh. And OT.
Wisconsin's offensive rebound percentage is 15% greater than Ole Miss, and their effective FG% is about 8% higher, but thanks to 8 turnovers, they are only up three points. Also, the CBS feed over here gets blurry from time to time, showing that yet again, Wisconsin basketball is played out of phase from normal space-time.
A 3 point deficit against Wisconsin is like a 10 point deficit against a normal team.
Where did Reggie Miller play college ball??
Stumbled across this - thought it was an interesting way to visualize tournament predictions based on the '538' forecast from Nate Silver at the NyTimes.
I was traveling earlier this week and one of the airport shuttle bus drivers had sports talk radio on. I missed the context, but a caller said something like "If you cloned Bo Ryan 50 times and had them all coach various teams around the country, you would destroy college basketball." I laughed.
/cool story bro
I had an idea for a new bracket style last night and I figure this is as good of a place as any to get some opinions on it. Maybe if people like it, I'll put something together to try it out next year.
Basically, the idea is that everyone picks a bracket like usual, but once the games are set for the next round, players have the opportunity to change their pick. However, their options will be limited to picking the favored team minus the points or the underdog in a straightup win. There is almost always the chance that the favored team wins and doesn't cover the spread, which would mean there is no chance for the player to earn points.
I was thinking that this would make the brackets still somewhat interesting for someone who picked something like Duke over Missouri in the Final 4 or championship game last year. It would also allow people to switch their picks to Wichita St over Gonzaga for tomorrow, which people might want to do.
This format would still strongly favor the person who built a good bracket, but people who would normally be eliminated after the first week or two would still have a fighting chance, which would help keep interest up.
Sounds pretty cool but also very confusing. I definitely will not be able to help you administer it!
Keeps things interesting beyond the first handful of games if you pick wrong. But I think you also need rather serious college hoops fans. I don't think the casual people who fill out a bracket really want to go much beyond filling it out the one time. But I like it better then just a regular bracket.
Or, "threading the needle", can be pretty lucrative in Vegas.
and you thread the needle, add the "under" to that parlay for some more money.
I hadn't really thought about making that an option because I was still thinking about it from the standpoint of a bracket where you have to pick one or the other, but I kind of like the idea of the 3 options.
Why is it that every Duke team seems to have a player that is easy to despise? For me, it started with Laettner, continued with Hurley (until he had that terrible accident) and Plumlee is the current position-holder for me.
Duke does a good job of coaching them up that way.
Entitled preppy white guys who flop, whine, are over rated and get way to much media attention.
Anyone know if JLA has wifi? Going to the CCHA Semis and would like to see it on my phone during the first game with nd and ohio.
They do but it's password protected. Last year I managed to grab the wifi password, but no longer remember it. Also they say over the phone that you cannot bring an iPad in, security let me bring it right on in anyways.
wisconsin game is nearly impossible to watch, naturally.
Just witnessed a Wisconsin fast break...
I wonder if Marshall Henderson is just going to exlode with rage at some point soon, currently shooting 1 for 13 against this slow grinding Wisconsin team.
Danny Ferry,Jay Bilas,J.J.Redick,Cherokee Parks,Grant Hill,Zoubek,Greg Paulus,the entire Plumlee family tree,Chris Collins..I could go on all day
I forgot about Paulus. He took the cake for sure.
Fuck Wisconsin and their slow snail offense
Where are the NCAA violations for crimes against humanity?
Comment of the tournament!
Ole Miss ties it up, only to see Wisconsin nail a return three and make it 39-36.
Perhaps that brief flash of action is for the best, as it felt like it had been 36-33 in the Ole Miss-Wisconsin game since 1994 for some reason.
Statistically, these two teams have almost played each other to a draw up and down the box score.
Watching the Wisconsin game. I'd almost rather be working while I'm at work.
ginger fade with the fro top is a truly unique and amazing haircut
I am listening to Wisconsin on the radio. You think there are unwatchable on tv, listening on the radio is the worse.
Isnt foring a non Wisconsin fan to listen to it on the radio a violation of the Geneva convention or something.
Marv Albert sounds so sad watching this game.
Take the marbles out of your mouth. What are you saying?????
Wisconsin missed the shot that you're supposed to make 9/10 times.
Does anyone else have Ole Piss?
Didn't think Wisconsin would get past first round and things look good so far.
Wisconsin has screwed me a few times so I decided to go against them this time. Long way to go though.
I have them in my Big Ten homer bracket because fuck Wisconsin. Real one I have them out next round.
Damn you! There goes my bracket!!
Ditto. I should have known better.
Is someone that shoots 39% (3-17 today) but leads a conference in scoring really that good of a shooter??
what do you know...wisconsin cant play their bull shit defense that BIG refs allow and they struggle against a terrible team....who would have thunk it?
Wisconsin is going to make my bracket backup toilet paper. That's what I get for doubling down on the Devil's team.
why didn't wisconsin shoot like this agains us the whole game instead of just a half? i think the announcer said it best--it wouldn't surprise me if this wisconsin team beat any team or lost to any team.
I knew without BIG Ten refs Wiscy would loose. Need Henderson to close this one out for me.
As much as I enjoy seeing Wiconsin suck - if they could please not lose to the SEC that would be great
I can't believe I'm saying this but....
SEC SEC SEC SEC
You're definitely going to Hell after that one.
Fucking Wisconsin just blew my bracket.. Ohio has a cake walk to the Final 4
I'm not a fan of Ole Miss by any means, but seeing them beating Wiscy makes me so happy. That Wiscy team always felt like a squad that benefitted from the officiating, so it is nice to see them struggle.
Can they just cut Charles Barkley's microphone? He said the B1G is overrated because Ole Miss may beat Wiscy. Of course, he loves the Pac 12, which was pretty horrendous all year and won two games in the tourney. And let's ignore UM, MSU, IU, OSU, etc. all being better than Wiscy.
Barkley also said last night that New Mexico was the team to worry about in their region. Of course, that was before they lost to Harvard!!
He also talked up Cal as if they were a juggernaut when, in reality, they barely beat a team that had already beaten them once this year, and are staring down a pretty scary 'Cuse team in round 2.
Charles is turrible.
I never found his antics on TNT interesting either. He's always been hard to understand, with limited useful insights unless you like hearing "real talk" from former players, and he never seems prepared for most of his talking points. Ernie Johnson really keeps him on point out there, and it is funny to see him try to mount anything approximating a logical opinion without that guidance.
Yikes. That free throw was just plain bad.
Bo Ryan and Wiscy deserve to lose after the luck they've had this year with bank shots, no calls and half court shots. Fuck them.
And the refs step in to pull their weight in making sure Wisconsin advances.
And Wisconsin steps in to make sure they assert themselves as the loser of the game by missing every open shot possible.
and it's a block? Good to know.
Dekker just runs full speed into the defender and gets the call. That's more like it.
what a terrible call by the officials on that dekker play.
Heheh serves Wisconsin right.
Well, I had Wisconsin in my Elite 8. Thought this was their year, but they really don't have much success in the tournament. I've watched them airball approximately 4 3-point attempts. Wisconsin infuriates me, they win when I want them to lose, lose when I want them to win, can beat Ohio State by 20 points and then lose to Ole Miss by 10. Ridiculous.
Wisconsin was 15/58 today shooting.
Wisconsin gets the NCAA tournament death sentence for crimes against basketball.
Thank you Henderson. Somewhat save my bracket and I hate wisconsin.
I think I'm a better shooter than anyone on Wisconsin's team. Do they even practice shooting?
They did shoot 70% in the 2nd half against us. Boo.
Ed: 70% is an exaggeration, most likely. But I'm pretty sure they did go 10 or possibly more straight possessions with scoring each time. Especially when we'd have a good defensive possession and Wisconsin would make a crap shot as the shot clock got down.
F*** YOU WISCONSIN.....I WILL NEVER PICK OR "ROOT" FOR YOU AGAIN.....AHHHH
Edit: Agree with others, Marshall Henderson is an ass.
I am not unhappy that Wisconsin lost, but this game has done nothing to diminish my dislike of Marshall Henderson either.
Is a player that shoots 6-21 from the field allowed to talk trash in a game like the Wisconsin game? I'd like to punch Henderson in the throat.
ohio is playing an NIT caliber bracket until the Final 4
There is a 100% chance Marshall Henderson ends up in jail someday.
Why is that? Did I miss something?
lol at that post from earlier today...
You're ripping on the guy who shot 6-21? Wisconsin shot something like 15-450. If anyone on Wisconsin had shot 6-21 they would have won.
i think wisconsin exists just to punish the big ten. they win games against big teams to ruin their seeding, then flame out in glorious fashion in the ncaa. they truly are satan's team.
Because they are a pox on college basketball.
I root for the B1G, generally speaking, to do well in post-season tourneys. But I never root for Wisky b-ball. Their style of play is completely unappealing to watch and one reason it isn't emulated more is their lack of NCAA tourney success. Thus, them losing in the 1st round is a good thing - more proof that their clutch & grab, bleed the clock style of play may work to get you top 5 finishes in league play (which is a credit to Bo Ryan's coaching skill), but it's too falliable in one & done scenarios. There is too little margin for error.
Oh no it must have been that famed SEC speed. Big Ten can't hang.
How do you rumble through the B1G tournament looking awesome and then lose to an SEC team?
Every 5 seed except the one we have to play lost in opening round
I am really tired of seeing teams that play like world-beaters against Michigan playing like crap against other teams. Why didn't they play like this against Michigan? Sometimes, it seems like nobody ever plays like this against Michigan. If this was football, at least Wiscy would have an excuse for losing to Ole Miss.
Wiscy has embarrassed the entire conference today.
We are Michigan and all other teams live to beat us. Before we were kind of the underdogs. Now we are going to get everyone's best shot.
Playing Michigan is like playing the Yankees. We're a school known traditionally for winning, being arrogant, getting a ton of media attention, and looking down our noses at everyone else. Most everyone who isn't a Yankee fan hates the Yankees, and gives the Yankees their best game when they get the chance. Same goes for Michigan.
you're ignoring the fact that everyone's hatred for the Yankees is justified. With Michigan, it's not. Nope, not at all.
Michigan is the rainbow-colored marshmallow that unicorns poop out. If you hate it, then YOU'RE the problem.
every 12 seed won except akron. and i picked exactly 1 of them in my bracket (Cal over UNLV). Too bad VCU wasn't among them.
-1st off, you fucking suck and benefitted from horrendous B1G officiating
- you let the whole conference down so that an idiot like Barkley can talk crap
-watching your games is brutal
-you let a guy who shot 6-21 pump his chest and talk shit
-I hate your fucking team and fuck you to hell assholes for screwing up the B1G's standings and making our lives miserable while you suck against an SEC team, way to go
wisconsin is the reason we are playing vcu tomorrow. if we win one of those games against wisconsin, we are at least a three seed.
did i mention i hate wisconsin?
someone remind me again why wisconsin can't shoot 25% when they play us.
yeah, instead they can shoot 14% in one half against us, but we lay an egg. then they shoot lights out in second.
Gonzaga was close to being the 1st 1 seed to lose.
3 seed New Mexico is gone
4 seed KSU can't beat elite teams
5 seed Wisconsin is gone (not a bad thing at all - but could have beat OSU)
6 seed Arizona is probably now the best bet to knock them off
It's great to see a team that has caused us so much pain over the last few years crash and burn repeatedly in the Big Dance.
going to be all like "now everybody in the 313"
5th time in the last 7 years Wisconsin has been climinated by a lower seed. Those of you that had them in the elite eight...shoulda known better.
I had them in the Elite 8. I literally thought this, I said "Well, Wisconsin generally sucks in the tournament, having been eliminated by a lower seed 4 out of the last 6 years, however, they did just roar through the Big Ten tournament. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt."
New Bracket Rule #481:
If Wisconsin is matched with a lower seed, they lose. Automatically.
I love to see gingers cry.
What do you see when you look into a ginger's eyes?
That didn't look like a top 10 team out there....just like they didn't most of the season.
I had KSU beating them anyway. IF they can win today, beating that abortion the Badgers call basketball in Kansas City shouldn't have been that tough.
A couple of good games doesn't make you a great team.
Maybe this is a reference to the Kansas thing, but yeesh, word choice.
One bad game doesn't make you a bad team either, but don't let that stop you from making you from ignoring all of their wins. Were you saying the same thing last year when Wisconsin made the Elite 8?
I agree there might be a bit of an overstatement, but Wiscy never looked good this year outside of the Big 10 season. It doesn't surprise me to see them stumble when their brand of "hard-nosed" defense struggled against a team that can get you in foul trouble.
*Almost made the Elite Eight (one-point loss to 'Cuse in Sweet Sixteen).
They were much more of a run of the mill top 25 team rather than the season long top ten team he says they were. You see one bad loss; I see three good wins all season, and most of that is an apparent match up nightmare for Indiana.
It's interesting because that would have been a matchup of a team KenPom *likes* and a team KenPom doesn't so much like, a mid-30s ranking, in Kansas State.
Down in Austin, there is a relatively uncompetitive game between Pacific and Miami right now. Miami (YTM) is up 40-19 at the half now.
Pacific is flirting with the idea of 30% effective shooting (29.2%), and Miami is sitting at 51.8%.
The stat so far has been turnovers - Pacific has 8 of them, and Miami has only turned it over twice. Miami is also outrebounding Pacific by a significant margin too. Pacific has also given Miami 13 opportunities at the stripe too, so it is rather a holistic approach to losing at this point.
Chart? Cat Picture?
It was obvious, I thought, that of the big five in the Big Ten, we would be helped most by getting away from Big Ten officials and Wisconsin would be hurt the most. Sparty and OSU can basically adapt and force their style on almost anyone, and Indiana is also helped, but less than us because in Big Ten games they can just dump it down to Zeller.
I don't even care that this screws up my bracket. Fuck Wisconsin.
My round of 32 picks are ATROCIOUS, but I've only lost 2 Sweet 16 teams, one Elite 8 team (The fightin' Bo Ryans) and my final 4 is still intact. I'm grabbing at straws here. Someone tell me everything is going to be alright.
On the bright side, I am the only person in my paid pool of 15 people to pick Indiana to win it all. That alone could bring home the $$.
::clutches wrist:: Thank you
Looking at my bracket now only makes me mad. Not because I'm doing that badly, but because OSU literally has a cakewalk to the Final Four.
Bummer about Wisconsin, how am I going get our baby to fall asleep now? Watching the first half at lunch turned into a 30 minute nap with newborn.
I absolutely refuse to watch Cincinnati play. Seeing them in those uniformz both enrages me and makes me feel embarrassed for the players. Embarrassed because (a) they allegedly like the jerseys, and (b) they look stupid on national TV.
I can't blame you for that, it's too true (Do the players have any say in this because, yea, me thinks they can't much like these abominations). But I will say Creighton is a good team to watch; good sound, fundamental ball and of course the POY candidate McDermott factor.
I am rooting for Creighton so the pants get kicked out of the tournament
Who else watching the Creighton-Cincy game?! This one should be a good one I think. I'm taking the MVC > Big East again. Go Jays!
K-State down by 11 in what is essentially a home game. Its still very early though . . .
A10 is looking good so far with saint Louis Vcu butler temple (I think) and la salle doing well.
NC State is trying to mount a comeback.
So far NC State is the only team I will miss on in every one of my brackets. I'm hoping they can pull this out.
K.State looks terrible right now. As someone said earlier, Michigan's non-conference schedule is not faring very well in the tournament so far. Good thing all that matters now is Michigan winning.
There is almost always one pair of lower seeded teams that win. Didn't happen yesterday. Looks like Lasalle may give us a 12-13 game on Sunday.
My question is, while we all. love it (as long as our team isn't one of the upset teams) on Thursday/Friday, do you like watching those games on Saturday/Sunday, or do you look for a different game?
It's next weekend when one advances and thy play a big boy it sucks.
WTF are you doing Leslie...
No one does it but I'm begining to think it's a good idea.Temple up 6 with :24 seconds left and they fouled NC St (not deliberately) , Clark Kellog berated Temple for it but even if NC St makes both it's still a 2 possession game.NC St. best chance to win was hitting a three and making it a 1 possession game.If you have a good shooting FT team and a lead, why not eliminate any chance your opponent will get any late 3's? Marquette overcame a 7 point deficit in last 1:30 by hitting three 3's.If Davidson fouls those threes don't happen and even if Marquette makes all 6 FTs they lose by 2.
Whoa, with Lasalle up big on K State, the Atlantic 10 conference is looking pretty good, will probably go 4-1 in the opening round with some very good performances.
if you count LaSalle's play-in win over Boise....St.Louis,Butler,VCU and Temple are all 1-0
Charles Barkley, singlehandedly re-pronouncing the English language one word at a time.
Illinois vs Colorado and Minn vs UCLA should both be good games later in the day.
Minny vs UCLA should be a great game. I hope Minny can pull out a W.
Minn should have a great chance to win if they come out focused - so many times this year they have come out flat and played far below their potential
Indiana is looking damn good right now.
Your avavtar kind of looks like Kovacs. Is that him?
Yes, it is him in the midst of the maize rage at the OSU highliter game.
As badly as the non-Big Ten officiating hurt Wisc it certainly helps with the styles that Mich and IU play.
I have Colorado over Illinois but I did pick Minnesota over UCLA
Oh hi Kansas state, nice of you to join the tournament.
got em in the FF...they need to complete this comeback
You have K-State in the Final Four? You do realize that they no longer affect Michigan's RPI at this point, right? So you don't need to root for them to win. Just kidding but K-State in the FF is kind of crazy.
Did you look at the region they are in? Gonzaga, Ohio state and New Mexico. Who do you think it should be? All of them are pretty unproven and I hate osu so who else? Wisconsin? Oh wait.
I have OSU (which makes me feel dirty) but I would have pick Gonzaga over them... I also would have picked New Mexico over them (so feel free to ignore anything I have to say).
KSU is loving that home court advantage, and so is my bracket.
K State is roaring back
Reggie and Len getting into an argument there.
They should just fight in between games and get it over with.
I considered a Kansas State upset, but I decided they were worthy. Dammit.
Horrible shot by the KSU player.
See ya later Kansas state, thanks for stopping by
one Final four team down
What a shit-poor posession from K-State
So apparently the best shot you can get in the last 9 seconds is from behind the backboard? At least when Trey goes hero ball the shot seems like it actually has a chance, that was such a shit poor possession.
All I have to say is screw my West bracket. I have Wichita State and Gonzaga and that's it. I had Wisconsin in th Elite 8. Ohio is going to cruise to the Final Four.
I have Gonzaga, Ohio, and Notre Dame. Unfortunately, two of those teams haven't even played yet!! F--k you, NCAA Tournament.
I have Ohio in my Final Four so I guess I would be ok with them cruising. I have ISU over ND tonight. So hopefully there's one more upset left in this bracket.
I had Kansas State losing to Wisconsin, guess that's not happening.
Our non-conference schedule looks pretty bad/ weak right now - thankfully, we are done with rankings and seedings and it all comes down to the play on the court.
Ya but the B1G is looking fantastic. Maybe we didn't "fall-off" in the second half. We just started with an easier schdule and ended with a harder one than we realized
I don't really get why a few teams not showing up for one game negates the rest of the season they played? Kansas St did pretty well in the Big 12 and Pitt had a solid year as well.
You are right, but if sports commentary isn't about creating absurdly broad narratives out of whatever tiny data point happens to be the most recent, then a lot of people are going to be out of a job.
Haha I suppose that is true though would that be such a bad thing?
I agree that one game doesn't negate a season - though if it is the last game of your season it does carry extra sting. I believe K State's record is more a reflection of the Big 12 - they lost in both their games against Kansas. NC State was very average and inconsistent in the ACC. Pittsburgh had a couple of good wins (Syracuse, Georgetown) but not much else. These losses just accentuate the very average seasons that these teams had.
John Groce can coach in the tourney.
9 losses for me already. My thoughts right now akin to lee corso: ahh fuck it!
Awesome, one of the two remaining perfect brackets on ESPN has Michigan as it's champion.
against Notre Dame?
....annnnd doesn't have a single 1 seed advancing past the Sweet 16. Seems more like a 4 the lulz kind of person, sadly.
Get a TO illini!
