Open Thread: Quarterfinals - USA vs. Czech Republic

Submitted by goblueram on

We are now halfway through the quarterfinals.  The Swedes and Finns already advanced by beating Slovenia and Russia, respectively.  Here's how the bracket looks (my crude version):

The semifinals have the potential to be rematches of the last two Olympic finals, but the focus is now on 1998 gold medalists Czech Republic (seriously, Jagr was there).

I'm talking trash to a coworker in Prague right now.

Me: you watching the hockey game?

CW: watching how we suck, yes.

Me: go USA

CW: Another goal. I hate hockey.

I've had a good feeling about this team ever since seeing the reaction on the faces of the US players 4 years ago in Vancouver.  Gone were the postgame smiles and hugs between NHL teammates that we saw in 2002.  This team gets it... gold or bust!
