OPEN THREAD - NCAA Tournament Thursday Afternoon Session
Ditto. I mean, somebody has to do it. I just couldn't stand letting Gonzaga advance in my brackets.
No way that is a flagrant in the Pitt Wichita St game.
Is that even a foul?
That is every drive in the big ten... In the tournamnet a flagrant 1 .
for teams who don't play very good defense. *ahem*
It was always going to be hard for Bucknell to win their game against Butler especially if Muscala had an off game.
Anyone at the Palace? Curious how many Staee fans are hanging around after their victory.
If you're thinking they will be around for the Michigan/SDSU game, I'm not so sure. The lower bowl gets cleared between sessions so the MSU fans would've had to buy tickets for both sessions and that's a big commitment just to root against another school.
The upper deck, if I'm not mistaken, can be there the whole time. So there will likely be the MSU stragglers up there wearing their SDSU gear they paid $70+ to have shipped overnight here.
They did buy Jackrabbit t-shirts and had them overnighted...it'd be such a shame for that investment to go to waste.
The people who bought their tickets before the brackets were announced bought tickets for both sessions as the Michigan game assuming that they ended up in Auburn Hills could have been in either session. Since tickets were still available for direct purchase for individual sessions, there was not too much demand for them to be able to sell their afternoon session tickets on the secondary market. As a result a few of my friends (Michigan fans) went to watch the games in both sessions.
I hope Pitt doesn't continue their atrocious shooting from the first half. Yuck. Got them advancing over Witchita St.
Watching NMSU's center run is more painful than watching Derrick nix run.
Go St. Mary's!
St Mary's needs to make a shot!
I HAVE A PERFECT BRACKET.
I AM PERFECT.
Eff yo' couch!
...with this pic (well, obviously offend a little bit), but it looks like he has FAS:
WHAT IS THE HELL IS A BILLIKEN!?
"Charm doll created by an art teacher in St.Louis" per wikipedia. That question comes up every year lol
"It was originally created in 1908 by the Craftsman's Guild in Highland Park Illinois. It seems to be based directly on the Japanese "Piriken or "Pilliken" of Osaka. The Piriken or Pilliken is something who has a box of money offerings in front of him. Those who offer a coin will have their wish granted if they kiss his upturned feet. The base of the plaster figure is inscribed, "Biliken - the god of things as they ought to be"
My 7 year old wanted to know who the team was that had the Grinch as a mascot.
I figured if any team wasn't going to crash the boards against Pitt in the tourney it was wee wittle Wichita State. They're winning the OREB battle 6-2
Could somebody step up and agree to help moderate the liveblog this p.m. (starting in an hour) or just be the scoreboard man? I need a couple more and my boss is getting mad at me for not watching enough basketball today.
I'd love to help but I'm pressing my luck by simply working from the conference room this afternoon . . .
do you guys have to work on a High Holy Day?
I can try to do it - What would it involve?
Just approving non-trolling comments. Sometimes you can reply to them too. One guy I want to just be updating the scores.
To the other guy -- because a liveblog is more fun than an open thread.
Seth--I can do it from 4-probably 5:30 if you still need mods. What's your email? (apologies if it's [email protected], but I can't find it on the site)
Just curious, why is it starting so early?
Is the Wisconsin of the Big East but with more muscle.
Boss left at noon today, said he is leaving at noon tomorrow. This is good, very good.
Is anyone else seeing the Pitt/Witchita St. game? Witchita St. is shooting 30.3% and Pitt is shooting 29% and the teams are a combined 2-26 from long range. Pitt really is the 'Wisconisn' of the East.
You're playing against pogo sticks, St. Mary's. Pump fake down low and watch jockstraps fall down to the floor.
Otherwise, St. Mary's is displaying grit and an inability to make shots.
St Mary's is my first upset pick of the day. Hoping they can start making some more open shots.
Mine too. Hopefully the Gaels get it going.
Interesting calls going Wichita's way thus far.
Stephens for Memphis has serious hops
I don't think I predicted this St. Mary's upset right...
Davidson is my big upset pick. Hope they can keep this going.
If St. Mary's doesn't make a comeback I will miss out on a perfect bracket. I love March Madness. I haven't accomplished a single thing since lunch.
F--- U PITT. Turn it around or I'm going to screen and ignore your phone calls looking for me to donate money to you. Wait, I do that already. <thinks of different punishment>
As I told my sister (a pitt alum), "hahahahaha"
/still bitter from years ago when I had pitt winning it
Ohhh my. You'd be crazy to ever pick Pitt to win it. I dont't think they've ever been past the elite eight.
I know this now, which is why I always have my sister in my pool, she picks pitt to win every year
I also have Davidson and Witchita State
Just when you think you can use Pitt's reliable tournament history for your upset pick, they go and do this....
To be fair, Pitts reliable tournament history is choking.
/still had them winning today at least :(
And all these burgh people i work with had them going down. My genius is suffering
My coin flip bracket is pretty much screwed at this point; guess the randomness of the universe didn't realize Valpo was a good choice to win it all.
On the other hand, the "Wife, I'm going to read two team names out and then you choose one" bracket is still perfect and still looking good so far...
Dang it.
