Open Thread: Michigan vs. Bama

Submitted by Lordfoul on
I think Michigan bounces back in a big way in this one. Hopefully JB lit a fire under Peedi's ass and he will dominate inside. This would be a big boost heading into the B10 challenge and I think a solid win here keeps us in the top 25. Prediction: M 72, A 60 Thoughts on the game? Do tell.

Hooray for freshman point guards who think that soloing coast to coast is a fantastic idea to end a game. We just couldn't deal with Green down low on either end or hit our free throws. Top 25 was nice while it lasted.

You cannot fault Morris there. The kid had five seconds to go the length of the court and come up with something. He did well to get to the basket. Their big guy just made a nice play. I'd be a lot more critical of Manny for that inexplicable fadeaway three with 40 seconds remaining.

Disappointing. Alabama seemed to get to every loose ball in the last 10 minutes. Our talent level is okay, but the effort and concentration aren't always there.

is Beilein really this bad of an end of game coach? We have fallen apart in the end of the last two games. Two horrible designed plays there coming out of timeouts.

I'm pretty sure he didn't instruct Manny to launch a 23 footer with 34 seconds left in a game that uses a 35-second shot clock. As for Morris's play, there just isn't a huge chapter of the playbook called "What to do when you have to go the length of the court in 5.4 seconds." Maybe Morris was supposed to kick it to someone but didn't see anyone, I don't know.

I said they should have been up by 10 later in the game but I'm not putting them in the NIT just yet. 3 consecutive times with the ball when Bama was gaining momentum, Sims gets a shot blocked, misses a dunk and walks. They aren't ready to take it to that next level yet but it's only November. Good learning experience for Morris but 2 guys were on him, someone had to be open.

I have the feeling Beilein will be happy to watch film and see all the things he can coach the players on. Disappointing tourney, but it's early. A wake up call for the team. Lotta hard work ahead. But I think it'll be a good season.
