Open Thread: Michigan @ Indiana
Michigan's lack of depth might do them in here at the end. Burke looks gassed. I don't think Vogrich has played in the 2nd half. Belien basically going with a 6 man rotation.
Did Novak get in a knife fight with some would-be assailants again? Quite a scar on his right arm.
Hardaway is ice cold from outside the arc.
AND YET HE KEEPS SHOOTING BAD SHOTS!
Tim with a couple of good looks just not hitting.
Everytime they NEED to make one they can't do it!
That is all.
Novak and Smot need to be the ones
Let novak shot for once!!
Tim I love ya but really bad shot selection in the final two minutes.
shot selection the last few possessions.
terrible offensive possesion. Stop here or go home.
Shit, tim that was a big miss...
every chance to win this game but just missed every shot down the stretch. but hung around well on the road at a top 12 team and could have won. not just on the road either, but at assembly where the refs are always good for at least one ridiculous pro indiana call in the last two minutes, and sure enough, that bogus traveling call on novak. regardless, it was close and this bodes well.
Hardaway's had a great second halfbut those open 3s are killing him.
That is HORSESHIT
Well - that sucks.
GOD DAMN IT! So close!
Ugh...oh well, the loss shouldn't hurt us too bad if we can take care of the winnable games and steal one or two on the road later on
Did Indiana shoot 80%? Because it sure felt like it.
Same damn thing as the duke game. Whenever they'd get close they'd miss a shot and IU would pull back away
Terrible officiating in my entire life. We win if not for getting homered
Beilein was going to blow his top, understandably. Burke got mugged with no call. Zeller hasa been shoving people out of the way to get his separation, no calls. Novak got the hip check and they call him for travelling. Unreal.
At least the young un's can see why you should hate Indiana. Especially in Bloomington.
ripping into THJ going into this TO.
well i have hatred for assembly hall and indiana now, we got SOOOOO DAMN CLOSE AHHHHH,
Burke plays his worst game of the year, THJ goes 0-7 from 3, still were in it till the final minute against a (soon to be) top 10 team on the road. Could be worse.
if burke or hardaway do anything, they get a good road win. dammit!
Bullshit refs and dumb shots by Timmy at the end. Oh and GODDAMN FREE THROWS!
THJ.....you may be able to score, but your defense is horrible!
Ugh, what a terrible game by THJ. Bad shots, lazy defense. THJ playing like a freshmen in the second half after Burke played like a freshmen in the first half.
Hardaway played far below what he is capable of, but the game isn't this close without him,he makes things happen.
Dunno about that. His negatives tonight far outweighed his positives. Love him, but he's good enough to take that criticism. He's not a three point shooter yet took 7 of them tonight. Made none. That's maybe his worst night as a Wolverine. Great dunk to keep it close, but we need smarter plays throughout the game. I trust him to turn it around.
That said, it's an encouraging game. Lot's of unforced turnovers, terrible shots, poor shooting from our star guards and we almost sneak out of Assembly Hall with a B10, top-15 road win.
Well he was 7-11 from on two pointers, 5-6 from the foul line, where are those points going to come from on this team? He also had 4 steals and 4 boards, with a couple of those boards coming where he just went up above everybody and went and got it.
One play in particular that illustrates his importance to the team, was the play where he drove underneath the bucket, got his shot blocked, and in a heartbeat was able to recover the ball, jump and lay it in before anyone else could even get off the floor. You can't coach that shit, nobody else on this team can make plays like that.
In a way, this game should never have been close. In another way, I feel a little hosed by exceptionally cold shooting and some bad calls.
game over not into moral victories but last year we lost by 20 at assembly hall and each year of Beilen we are getting better. If we play like we did with the grit and intensity we will beat State.
A bald version of Toby from the Office.
Love how they show jones shot 3 times but wont show the so called travel on novak
take such horrible shots the last few minutes of the game we might have pulled this one out.
IT AINT OVAH YET!!!
LOL now we hit that. Still a chance
Holy friggin crap Stuart
WAIT JUST ONE SECOND HERE...
(MAY THE POWER OF THE CAPS LOCK BE WITH US)
A faster foul on the last play would have been nice.
NOW we make a three. Sigh.
STU Y U NO HIT THAT SHOT LAST TIME?
I see why Indiana is so tough to beat at home.
With these ref's, I am not sure if Miami Heat could beat Indiana at home...
I think it's fair to say that refs are generally crap because games are really difficult to call. Someone's always pissed.
I understand the favorable foul calls when a home player is driving towards the basket. That stuff is pretty common and is what gives "home field advantage" in basketball.
This stuff where all deflected ball that goes out of bounds goes to the home team automatically business is not something you see everyday.
And you know it went out on our players how?
There was a couple 50/50 ones that went in our favor as well. Why bitch about what may or may not have been questionable calls when our team took what was undeniably far too many terrible shots and made few of those shots.
It's an encouraging game in the end, so long as we improve from it.
Ummm.... because I have eyes (and DVR)???
There were several calls where Michigan players did not even touch the ball (the one where Smot smacked the ball off the knee of an Indiana player was especially egregious) and they called it Indiana ball.
I am not questioning "questionable" calls, I am questioning blatant calls.
Yeah but my thing was some inconsistency in the travel calls. There were quite a few I felt we didn't get and I wasn't sure if Novak's travel at the end should have been a call. But whatever it should be an exciting game in Crisler.
When Bobby Knight was screaming on the sidelines.
And when he stopped screaming, duck!
need a turnover right here.
Miracle on the river please....
Does IU even have a band? Every timeout is just more Jock Jamz playing.
maybe they couldn't make their pep band come back if they were still on break
Hardaway just needs to go 1/7 instead of 0-for and we win, he needs to be our leader
Tim Hardaway Jr 0-7 from three.
He needed to drive much more. He is one of the best slashers in the B1G.
Those missed 3's weren't even good looks. He just jacked up a bunch of off-balance shots as soon as the ball hit his hands. Nice teamwork.
Espn loves indiana!!! It's all Indy!!
crean is such a creepy looking guy.. i hate the fact the he is related to the Harbaughs
That pussy missed the free throw on purpose.
Props to the guys for battling and making it close.
Well we played better than the top two teams here, I'm proud, not a perfect game, but it was a damn good one
Should have won. Oh well. I feel damn good about this team though.
Damn looked to be right on line, just a few feet long.
Tough loss - but we're showing we belong with the big boys. The Hoosiers are damn good this year.
If we had decent officials we would have won that game. Where are the Sugar Bowl guys?
Seems like we always come close against good teams, but lose. We'll get them at Crisler.
Idiot post on my part...
I'm still amazed that we were even in a position to win.
Makes it that much tougher to swallow.
Punch to the dick
Just wish we could have those forced threes from Timmy back a couple of two pt shots put us up! Oh well I'll hear some shit at work tommorrow cause iu fans are such dicks!! But ill hang my head high feb 1 paybacks a bitch go blue!!!
Well after trailing by 20 in the first half a 2 point loss is OK. I feel like there were a bunch of calls that went IU's way. Oh well 2 point loss to a higher ranked team on the road shouldnt hurt to bad. Proud of the way the boys fought back in this one.
We were down by 20 at any point in this game.
Trey dealt with some freshman struggles and when hardaway gets his shot back he hits those before the minute mark, about encouraging as a lose will be.
ESPN acting like IU was the underdog and paying no attention to Michigan and the way we got robbed
Wins like what we could have had tonight are what get teams off the bubble and into lock status. Oh well, looks like it is another year of "Bubble Watch" for ol' Blue. And I hate the bubble.
Ummm... Pretty sure we're not going to have to worry about the bubble this year. You do realize that Indiana is 14-1 and has beaten both Kentucky and OSU, right? The #1 and #2 teams in the nation at the time
Indiana lost to MSU
I can't believe that. If Indiana had already knocked off two top 25 teams, the announcers would have mentioned it
We are NOT going to be on the bubble. We are going to be watching for a 4+ seed.
Ehh, I'd say 5, 6, or 7 seed would be more accurate. I'd be pumped up like crazy with a 4 though...
I'm not saying that this loss will look bad on our resume. Far from it. I'm just saying that it would have been a great win that would have gone a long way from locking up a tourney bid. I just want to be one of those teams that gets to play out the last couple of weeks jockeying for seeding rather than trying to bolster the resume for a bid, and a win tonight would have been a big step in that direction. Oh well, it's over. Now it's time to focus on Beating the Badgers!
Ohio lost by 4 to IU at home and now UM by 2. So... UM > Ohio? I think YES!
I see no reason to be greatly dissappointed with the loss...
Your top scorer goes 0-7 from the 3, your pg plays probably the worst game of his career, and you come within a fg of beating a top 15 team on the road in a very hostile enviroment.
There is one thing that Michigan lacks and Indiana does not, and that is a big guy that can do work inside both offensively and defensively. Zeller destroyed us down low and we really couldn't do much about it. Next year with McGary we will finally have that guy. Watch out B1G!
Zeller is a helluva good freshman, but he didn't destroy us. Zeller had 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 turnovers. Jordan Morgan had 12 points, 9 rebounds and zero turnovers.
We really have to start pulling out a win during these close games against good teams, we always come up a few points short
but seriously where did THJ's three point shot go?
to get THJ off the bus in the first half. His lack of efficiency is killing us in big games. Come on THJ! You're so much better than these guys checking you on D!!!! Disregard my statement an hour ago about losing faith. I believe in you man!!!!!!
Damn. Hell of an effort just to get back into this one, and damn near stole a victory from the Indiana Referees, I mean Hoosiers. Michigan has a ton of heart and just needs a little more seasoning and more consistency out of THJ.
P.S. Someone needs to tell Tom Crean to get a real haircut. I'm sure the 6th grade was great for ol' Tommy but it's time to get an adult haircut.
showed a lot of promise. Burke and most of the team (except Hardaway) slowed down and ran the offese nicely. The defese wasn't too bad either. If we can play that way all game we can play with anybody.
Great effort, great game. They gutted it out and didn't wilt in that environment. Very encouraging for the remainder of the year
This game is a game where McGary would have made a huge difference, his relentless effort on the boards could have proved the difference. M missed 30 field goals today but came up with just 6 offensive rebounds, 4 of those from Burke
Michigan with Belien is going to be scary to deal with with the uptick in athleticism that is coming our way. Hardaway, Burke, McGary, Glen Robinson III, will all be players capable of making something out of nothing.
to actually have a fighting chance at the end after it looked like they were about to blow the top off Assembly Hall. I would be surprised if IU loses at home this year.
Nice effort. Need to get Timmy hittin his threes again, this is a rough slump.
F all of this moral victory talk. This is Michigan. I'm pissed.
No shame in this game. Indiana has already gone to the final four seven times this year and we came within 3 at their home hall.
Anyone else beyond frustrated with Stu? Guy doesn't play like a senior.
He doesn't have the talent. He hit some big shots tonight but often after he did he took a stupid shot the next time down the floor.
I'm so sickkkkk of close losses
Close losses are always tough, but they didn't quit and IU got some calls and made some ridiculous shots.
But that was the toughest venue they'll play in all year and one of the toughest teams they'll play plays there. Tough to get too upset about this one.
Does anyone feel Novak could have gotten that ball up to about 6 ft from the three point line, well within his range? He shot with about 1.7 seconds left from halfcourt. Trey Burke did the same at the end of the first half. Maybe we need to work on our mental clocks in practice.
He had time for 2-3 more dribbles.
Yeah that was a killer, I honestly would've liked his chances to make it had he gotten closer and stepped into his shot. I mean he nearly made it from halfcourt.
The guy has been the worst official in college basketball for as long as I can remember. If this game is called even Michigan has 5-7 more possessions, Novak plays 10 more minutes, and Michigan wins by 10 points. Still proud of how the guys played.
Close call officiating decided this game but we need to run plays instead of just throwing up prayers on fast breaks.
would have helped quite a bit in this game. He could have guarded Zeller and allowed Smotrycz to guard Watford. Nevertheless, Morgan did do a nice job guarding Zeller in the second half. It would have been nice to have another big who can play solid D.
Reviewing Novas "travel" not even FUCKING CLOSE
The one that really burned my ass though was the ball that everyone in the building saw go off Zeller's thigh out of bounds except the ref making the call. Dakich the Hoosier homer even said so. How does that happen?
I just left the game. No way that was a travel. Most refs leave the game to the players to resolve the end result. Sad call. Real proud of all the players though... They fought hard! An IU fan next to me said they were playing like shit which I feel was false. I kindly told him that Michigan are some of the scrappiest players you'll see and I also said that they (IU) was not playing out of their minds. Indiana played a good game... So did we.
Two things stuck out to me.
1. Burke shits the bed at the line too often. 0-3 is unacceptable. Outside of that, he played ok. He just needs to calm down.
2. Hardaway had the biggest ice-cold "fuck me" game from 3pt land. 0-7?! Even McLimans made a 3 pointer! His shot selection behind the arc was juvenile, at best. The announcer actually got it right when he said "Hardaway isn't trusting his teammates..." Those teammates went 10/17 from the arc (59%!) and he kept tossing prayers like a middle-school spoiled brat whose dad coaches the team. Love ya, Timmy, but when others are draining them, pass the damn ball!
That is all. Sorry for the cursing, but I'm pissed we lost because we outplayed Indiana in so many facets of the game.
Sorry, a bit late to the party, but I'm assuming I feel about the same as everyone else here. This one really hurts, as it would have been nice to send Zack and Stu off finally getting that victory so close to home. I too thought the officiating was pretty suspect and cost us a lot of possessions. The positive take away here is that we played with, and probably should have defeated, a legitimate top-ten team tonight with THJ and Trey playing horribly.
The team needs to take care of Wisconsin on Sunday; we owe them one.
As long as the team can win most of it's home games against the top 5 B1G we should be in good shape. We should win against IU and MSU at home! OSU may be tough...but who knows this Michigan team will continue to improve as the B1G season progresses!
There already IS a site for that...http://www.facebook.com/pages/FIRE-JIM-BURR/102474176500100?sk=wall
Considering Timmy and Burke played poorly yesterday and we still had a chance to go ahead late gives me a lot of hope for the year. IU is a good team and Bloomington is a really difficult place to play. I can't blame the refs, they did not cost us the game. We came out a little flat and Their defense was in our face a lot of the night. I have high hopes for our team and I think the next few years are going to see some great games between these two teams. Both teams are having great recruiting years.
