I just started laughing hysterically and then it turned into tears thinking back to the Ellerbe and Amaker eras.

I like your picture.
But stop crying so much.
RR era...
Tears?! WTF?! All the more reason to be enjoying the hell out of this.
I keep LeVert in to give him some more minutes.
I say Spike-LeVert-Vogrich-Bielfeldt-McLimas
Put me in at this point
Coach B really put that exact lineup in!
me </evil laugh>
"Maniacal laugh. Maniacal laugh. Maniacal laugh."
As one MGoBlogger described the NW win, this one as well is "complete ownage."
this has been quite the entertaining game and an indicator of who the best team in the B1G is, and probably the nation.
This is a team that almost beat Indiana that we are taking to the woodshed, good times
best performance yet by McGary and also gr3.
What did he do? Someone said something earlier about his entrance today.
We need a #2 ranked student section now
Well it is break, but the way the student section is set up means it will never be awesome, only dissapointing thing about new crisler.
Bleachers are too small and students are bad fans.
The number of times I've face palmed because I'm near someone shouting random things or making comments that show they know nothing about basketball is too high to count
Don't generalize. There were many years where the students were the only ones to cheer or let alone show up.
It's still break and the bleachers were almost full of students. That says a lot.
Admittedly I was overgeneralizing. There are good fans, just not enough of them. Hopefully the #2 team in the nation sparks some interest.
But those weren't all students in the section, they just gave out yellow shirts to the bleachers. I bought my ticket at the last possible moment and I was row 5 in the middle section, the one they filled first. Still a better turnout than the CMU/EMU games, but they really need to re-evaluate how they do student tickets for break games, because MSU this year is going to be the same way.
Are you talking about today's game? Are you a student? I'm assuming not since you had to buy a ticket last minute.
You understand that it is still break, correct?
Have you ever tried to get into the bleachers for a decent match-up during Big Ten season that wasn't during a student break?
3/4 years ago I had to get to the Duke and MSU games 60-90+ min to get seats in the center section. The couple years before that I would still have to get to games 30+ mins before tip.
It really doesn't seem like you know what you're talking about. Can you provide us with some info?
I'm a student. It was a dumb comment I over generalized a lot.
What I'm meaning to say is that with the current student section setup and this being the first year of a phenomenal team, it's going to take time for us to have a fearful student section for anything but the big games so far. But if we keep this up it looks promising.
EDIT: Time you need to show up to get into the bleachers is about the same this year, 30 minutes for non-important games, 60 minutes for the rest save for NC State, where you had to wait for about 30 minutes before the gate opened. And the reason I bought it at the last possible minute was because there was a deadline to purchase them before they got released to the public that I forgot about because it was approaching finals week.
Thanks for clarifying. I have noticed the bleachers have been reduced a bit - the front row of the center section is now a press row and the end sections are smaller.
That's unfortunate.
However, I was once in a meeting with some other Maize Ragers and some athletic admins and they said they really want to increase the student section/seating in the lower bowl. It's in the plans (or at least was 3-4 years ago). They won't do it, though, until there is continued high attendance for a significant period of time. Those seats are too valuable to sacrifice without solid assurance that attendance will stay high.
As for your comment on other students' comments - I know in my last year when attendance started rising I had to fight a little harder for center section seats. And when I didn't get there early enough, I noticed the crowd was beginning to become a little - let's say - mainstream. That's an unfortunate consequence of being good and popular.
Let's hope it never becomes a sorority chick drunk hangout like certain parts of the football student section.
And students have yet to fill the allotment of sections for any game so far and I don't think it will until OSU, and OSU and Indiana might be the only games that get students into more than 2 of the upper level sections. Same attendance issues as football. Hopefully by the end of the year the hype is still going and we can consistently fill at least most of the allotment, and then if we get another good year next year something might get going.
I'm just happy at least the bleachers are in the middle of the court, my dad was a student during the Glen Rice and Gary Grant days and tells me about how they were all the way in an upper corner. At least we're better than that.
As a survivor of the Maize Rage Amaker era, I appreciate this.
Also a late Amaker survivor and had tickets during grad school for Beilein's first couple years.
Some people just don't understand how great the Maize Rage is because they only view it from afar and then compare to that other student section that is always on TV (and admittedly awesome). It was the most fun I had in college. Just happened to be small during some down years. It'll grow with success.
Meaning tickets to this game were not included in the student season ticket package. You had to buy student tickets to this game separately, and if not, they went on sale to alumni/public.
Unfortunately Michigan State will also be a "break" game. I got my ticket, but I know a fair amount of students forget to purchase the "break" games or don't know better. So while it will probably be a wild atmosphere, it won't be the best it can be too.
Indiana is technically during the break. Not sure if its considered a "break game" for the students, but I'm sure there will be some that won't be able to make it still.
The Indiana ticket (thankfully) was included in the season ticket package. Hopefully the students that are still be out of town will transfer their tickets to Michigan fans that will actually attend.
Our fans aren't much less ugly than Northwestern's.
Hate to sound greedy but I wanted a blowout. Not just a win but a blowout. After what happened at Carver Hawkeye Arena last year, Iowa had this coming.
When we put Eso in for LeVert, he'll jack a few 3's for you. He'll probably make them too.
I almost feel bad for Iowa. Almost.
Iowa only has to get two every seven seconds now. I am pretty sure they have us right where they want us.
This is such an exciting game - Robinson with 20 points and the double-double, Hardaway and Burke with 19 each, Stauskas with 13 points to his credit. To think that the Sagarin numbers would have only had us favored by 11. This team defies prediction yet again - in an awesome way.
That is all.
This team is ridiculous
...is getting Clowney'd.
Over
and
Over
and
Over...
Pleeeze
I was wrong on my prediction. I said "no starters on the floor at the 5 minute mark"
It was the four minute mark. My bad.
That's why you dunk the basketball, Mr. Bielfeldt.
Pleeeeze?
Awesome.
When is it hard hat time with Eso??? Bring on the biceps!
I dont like arrogant fans and im not one of them..but its hard to be humble right now on UM basketball..they have alot of work to do but they are on track to being one of the better NCAA basketball teams i have seen in my opinion..Team is playing amazing right now keep it up.
When you have arguably the best team in the country.
Honestly, just let Duke and Michigan play a best of 7 series...
Make sure to leave out DB from the planning. For marketing and brand purposes, maybe 1 game will be at Crisler and Cameron each. The other 5 will be on an aircraft carrier, Superdome, Georgia Dome, China, and if it comes to a game 7... space bitches. The players shooting touches maybe a little off, but just imagine the ally-ops and dunks in low gravity. The ratings will be out of this world!
I want 100!!!!!
But we have to give everyone free tacos if we score 100...and we dont even have any tacos
Thought GR3 would be here through his sophomore season.
He's been getting consistently better all season. If he keeps playing like this he's a 1 and done lottery pick.
We all knew that 3 was coming..
That's my boy ESO!!
Glad Iowa gave us a battle early. Loved the blocks and dunks. Yay for big boy basketball!
BLOUSES
Purify yourself in the waters of lake minnetonka
Is Eso a scholarship player?
No, walkon
#2ndrankedteamproblems
I love GRIII, but he is the chief beneficiary of having Hardaway and Burke on the team. I really hope he stays one more year to refine his offensive game. You can't only score on dunks in the pros...
I don't think you are giving him enough credit. He is pretty damn good.
my bad....but he is 3 inches taller than Robinson with more ups...
Robinson is good, and probably a first round pic this year, but if I am an NBA exec, I want someone who consistently show more in the paint for me to draft him...
They're totally different players.
I was just saying you can have a career by only dunking. Something you said couldn't be done.
Also, he's way more skilled than you give him credit for. He's just not big enough to be a 4 and not quick enough to be a 3...yet.
He can certainly play (WELL) at the NBA level.
He can shoot, too.
He also had a double double...he's rebounding the basketball and getting putbacks.
He's definitely skilled offensively.
The reason he shouldn't go pro is because he's a 3/4 tweener in the NBA right now. He's got to refine a position.
But he isn't the focus of any D we face. I am not slamming him, infact, I think he is an NBA type player...but how often does he show a back to the basket game. He gets points on putbacks, backdoor cuts, dunks, and the perimeter J. Great player, but I think he needs to add something to his post game....
Not in this offense.
Do you realize we had Zack Novak played PF for us last year? Was he a back to the basket player?
And again, in the NBA...he's probably a Small Forward. He doesn't need to be Kareem.
Zack Novak can't carve out a long term career in the NBA, although he has the heart to. I agree, he is predominantly a SF in the NBA, but that is a deep position in the NBA. It is my opinion, which you clearly disagree with, that like Burke, one more year would make all the difference for GRIII, not only for draft position, but longevity in the league...not saying he sucks, not saying he isn't talented....
I agree that he needs another year...but not because he just dunks and isn't very skilled on the offensive end.
Do you realize that Kentucky had like 6 guys drafted last year?
They all couldn't have been the focus.
UNC has freshman who don't even start get drafted and play in the NBA (ie Marvin Williams)
The exact sentiment I was thinking about GRIII is that he needs 'refinement' But the OP has a point; when you've got the best back-court duo in Burke and Hardaway, it leaves a lot open for the rest of the team. He sure has the ability, but I think some of his production would go down without the other two. I don't think we've really seen his ability to 'create' like Burke, especially, and Hardaway has.
I suppose it's similar to having "protection" in a batting order in baseball.
That being said, You know your team is good when fans critique HOW you score.
Read Tim McCormick's Twitter feed. He talked to NBA scouts and they say GRIII is the best NBA prospect on the team.
Nebraska to get torched next on Wednesday.
The highlight video at the end of this season is going to be LEGEN...
DARY
Can we get a gif of ALL OF THE DUNKS?
Guys, remember when we were tied at 29?
...that I'm going to watch this game again?
I NEVER re-watch games..but this is one that I'd definitely consider giving another view.
I think it's on 8 times tomorrow on BTN.
Just try not to laugh too hard
that makes you normal...I kn ow I'm watching again.
then Michigan went on a 61-26 run to go up 90-55 with 4 mins left. :)
that is a tall interviewer....taller than GRIII!
Score 100 yet?
So is it GRIII turn for freshman of the week
Good at basketball.
Really hard not to drink ALL of the Kool-Aid regarding this team but my goodness! Lack of tests against really good teams is only thing I'm waiting on. This is exciting! Go Blue
Long trip back to Iowa City for the Hawkeyes. Fran was not happy with their effort to start the 2nd half. You aren't beating Michigan in their house if you dog it. Go Blue!
To the guy who gave me crap about saying this team would consistently drop 80 points on our opponents: suck it.
