Open Thread: M Basketball vs Iowa at home
Game at Noon eastern/ 11 Central. Some Iowa fans smell an upset. I think they will be upset after we win. Go Blue!

SHOWTIME!!!
January 6th, 2013 at 12:46 PM ^
We are banging in fools!
January 6th, 2013 at 12:46 PM ^
someone should have hit him earlier. Has been en fuego since he returned.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
This team can score so easily. If we can up the defensive intensity a little we can challenge for a title.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Nice break to end the half.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
thank you very much
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
McGary is playing with confidence....you can see why he was a top prospect!!!
That is how you close out a half!
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Great finish to the half!!!
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Hey, this team is alright...
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Mitch just had about the best half of basketball he can have. That was big time.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Looks like he can run the outlet too
January 6th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Way to go fellas
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Damn they are good
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Iowa is playing out of their minds, hitting every shot, got every call in the first 15 minutes of the half....
...and is still down 11.
What is this, I don't even...
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Great last few minutes
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
McGary leads a three minute stretch where we just take over this game. Iowa did just about everything they wanted to do for 17 minutes, and they are down 11 at the half. Woudl be great to look back in a month or so and see this as McGary's welcoming party.

White Thunder's passing is rock solid, love how he quikly gets the ball up court after a rebound.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Did we offer Marble, i might take him over Levert...
January 6th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
Marble is a Junior. Obviously you would want Iowa's best player over our 7th-8th best player.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:07 PM ^
Is a freshman who shows great upside. In 2 years he will be better then Marble.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
boo on you, even if true.
And, I like Levert a lot, especially for this UM team:
I think sometimes looking at comparisons as one vs. one matchups isn't as accurate. Yes, Marble maybeat Levert head to head, but sometimes teams need different things. We will need some players that will be here all four years, giving us senior leadership to carry the younger 1/2/3 and done players. Also, we have tons of scoring, and while Levert can score, his defense and all around play makes him a better than avg. team player - which all teams need, but UM needs even more b/c they already have so many "stars" that can score.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:04 PM ^
We decided to offer timmay over marble. I like our side of things.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Y U NO COAST 2 COAST AND BREAK BACKBOARD, MITCH??
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Bacari should just punch Mitch in the nose before every game. Kid plays amazing after getting hit in the beak.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Dear Iowa,
Thank you for hitting Mitch in the face.
Love,
Michigan :)
January 6th, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
This is why this team is so great. Played at times a pretty crappy first half. Burke and Stauskas were non factors for a while. Some bad defense. Morgan in foul trouble. Iowa hitting a lot of shots. And we're still up 11.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
I went from thinking possible deflating loss to anticipating another 20 point win in the time it took to smoke a cigarette. This team... I am blown away by the talent Coach B has put together.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
smoking is bad, mmmmkay?
January 6th, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
no shit, sherlock. But that Big Mac you ate is healthy, so it all evens out in the end.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:17 PM ^
I appreciate your concern, but I expel all carcinogens in the blood i cough up each morning.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
to close out a half!
January 6th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
Man how did they get 35 shots off? And, forgive my basketball ignorance, but at what point does it change from 'a team plays bad defesne' to 'a team is just on fire'? I ask because it seems that teams that don't shoot very well seem to against us, suggesting bad defense. But when I eyeball it during the games, it's not like we're giving up easy shots, just that other teams are making a lot. Anybody with more basketball knowledge feel free to chime in.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
Our rotations have been very poor leading to easy layups and 15 footers. Stauskas has been chasing all game.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:55 PM ^
You can say the same thing about Hardaway. Jumping on fakes are leading to penetration and easy buckets
January 6th, 2013 at 1:08 PM ^
Yeah, we definitely have some room to improve, but it's also frustrating to look at the IU-Iowa game and see Iowa go 33% from the field and 17% from 3-point range. As far as I know IU isn't known for their defensive prowess either.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:35 PM ^
IU is like 8th in the country in terms of defensive eficiency according to kenpom, so they are pretty good this year
January 6th, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
Well sometimes teams do go off against us, but Iowa is a solid shooting team and we gave them too many easy looks early on.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
Our team is good for missing 4-5 rotations a game leading to uncontested dunks, but other than that I'd say our D is solidly above average. Freshman will get more experience and begin anticipating where to be on the defensive end as the season progresses. People seem to forget that we are great at not fouling and pretty good at forcing turnovers.
Good O beats a good D all day long. They can hit fadeaway 12 footers with a hand in their face all day long; doesn't mean we didn't play good D.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:04 PM ^
The reality is players practice with a hand in the face or use a broom to mimic a defender. Michigan defense seems to have hand in the face often which sometimes is an easier shot now due to the way shooters practice.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
That was the best finish to a half all year considering the competition. Iowa made it a point to deny Trey the ball but Michigan finally answered by saying fuck it he needs the ball in his hands. And Mitch McGary..wow the energy he brought to the team this afternoon was immeasurable
January 6th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
The Big Puppy!
January 6th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
the refs start taking a look at what Woodbury is doing on the block. He is getting away with murder down there.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
Played pretty shitty to start (by our standards), slept walked though a big portion of the 1 st half, were down 7-0 anf proceeded to outscore them 46-28 the rest of the way....just effing wow, we can turn it on so quick, it's scary
January 6th, 2013 at 12:55 PM ^
Can't wait to get home from work and watch this game.
Dang BiG Ten is tough this year
January 6th, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
I'm just going to say the Big Ten ToGo app is doing me a solid right now being that I can't be at home. Now if I could just get the Watch ESPN app to be available in St Louis that would be great.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Has done this year. We had 2 true freshmen that understood the clock and the situation and executed the break to perfection. Either one could have went for a showtime dunk but knew they didnt have time.
January 6th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Wow did anyone see ray Lewis enter the ravens stadium??? Intense.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:01 PM ^
Yeah I wouldn't want to block him today. No way the Raven lose today, imo.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:03 PM ^
I think their defense is going to play out of their minds today, I agree colts will lose.
January 6th, 2013 at 1:06 PM ^
...what happened?
