Open Thread: M Basketball vs Iowa at home
Nice break to end the half.
Michigan Resurgent? Michigan Resurgent!
The beatings will continue until the uniforms improve!
McGary is playing with confidence....you can see why he was a top prospect!!!
That is how you close out a half!
Mitch just had about the best half of basketball he can have. That was big time.
Way to go fellas

Iowa is playing out of their minds, hitting every shot, got every call in the first 15 minutes of the half....
...and is still down 11.
What is this, I don't even...
Great last few minutes
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
McGary leads a three minute stretch where we just take over this game. Iowa did just about everything they wanted to do for 17 minutes, and they are down 11 at the half. Woudl be great to look back in a month or so and see this as McGary's welcoming party.
White Thunder's passing is rock solid, love how he quikly gets the ball up court after a rebound.
Did we offer Marble, i might take him over Levert...
"Only three things can happen when you pass, and two of them are bad" -Bo Schembechler
Marble is a Junior. Obviously you would want Iowa's best player over our 7th-8th best player.
THIS IS MICHIGAN
boo on you, even if true.
And, I like Levert a lot, especially for this UM team:
I think sometimes looking at comparisons as one vs. one matchups isn't as accurate. Yes, Marble maybeat Levert head to head, but sometimes teams need different things. We will need some players that will be here all four years, giving us senior leadership to carry the younger 1/2/3 and done players. Also, we have tons of scoring, and while Levert can score, his defense and all around play makes him a better than avg. team player - which all teams need, but UM needs even more b/c they already have so many "stars" that can score.

Y U NO COAST 2 COAST AND BREAK BACKBOARD, MITCH??
Except for the other thing. That hurts the most. But the lack of respect hurts the second most.
Bacari should just punch Mitch in the nose before every game. Kid plays amazing after getting hit in the beak.
Dear Iowa,
Thank you for hitting Mitch in the face.
Love,
Michigan :)
This is why this team is so great. Played at times a pretty crappy first half. Burke and Stauskas were non factors for a while. Some bad defense. Morgan in foul trouble. Iowa hitting a lot of shots. And we're still up 11.
Practice makes perfect. Unless you're the Buckeyes. Then you have to cheat.
I went from thinking possible deflating loss to anticipating another 20 point win in the time it took to smoke a cigarette. This team... I am blown away by the talent Coach B has put together.
The swag is back.
smoking is bad, mmmmkay?

no shit, sherlock. But that Big Mac you ate is healthy, so it all evens out in the end.

to close out a half!
If an OSU fan divorces his wife are they still brother and sister?
Man how did they get 35 shots off? And, forgive my basketball ignorance, but at what point does it change from 'a team plays bad defesne' to 'a team is just on fire'? I ask because it seems that teams that don't shoot very well seem to against us, suggesting bad defense. But when I eyeball it during the games, it's not like we're giving up easy shots, just that other teams are making a lot. Anybody with more basketball knowledge feel free to chime in.
Our rotations have been very poor leading to easy layups and 15 footers. Stauskas has been chasing all game.
You can say the same thing about Hardaway. Jumping on fakes are leading to penetration and easy buckets
Yeah, we definitely have some room to improve, but it's also frustrating to look at the IU-Iowa game and see Iowa go 33% from the field and 17% from 3-point range. As far as I know IU isn't known for their defensive prowess either.
Well sometimes teams do go off against us, but Iowa is a solid shooting team and we gave them too many easy looks early on.

Our team is good for missing 4-5 rotations a game leading to uncontested dunks, but other than that I'd say our D is solidly above average. Freshman will get more experience and begin anticipating where to be on the defensive end as the season progresses. People seem to forget that we are great at not fouling and pretty good at forcing turnovers.
Good O beats a good D all day long. They can hit fadeaway 12 footers with a hand in their face all day long; doesn't mean we didn't play good D.
That was the best finish to a half all year considering the competition. Iowa made it a point to deny Trey the ball but Michigan finally answered by saying fuck it he needs the ball in his hands. And Mitch McGary..wow the energy he brought to the team this afternoon was immeasurable
the refs start taking a look at what Woodbury is doing on the block. He is getting away with murder down there.
Played pretty shitty to start (by our standards), slept walked though a big portion of the 1 st half, were down 7-0 anf proceeded to outscore them 46-28 the rest of the way....just effing wow, we can turn it on so quick, it's scary
Can't wait to get home from work and watch this game.
Dang BiG Ten is tough this year
I'm just going to say the Big Ten ToGo app is doing me a solid right now being that I can't be at home. Now if I could just get the Watch ESPN app to be available in St Louis that would be great.
Has done this year. We had 2 true freshmen that understood the clock and the situation and executed the break to perfection. Either one could have went for a showtime dunk but knew they didnt have time.

Wow did anyone see ray Lewis enter the ravens stadium??? Intense.

Yeah I wouldn't want to block him today. No way the Raven lose today, imo.

Did he do his scary dance? I dont know about you but when he does his scary dance it's a wonder the other team has the courage to even show up on the field. It's so scary.
2 blocks for Mitch. That is something that is desperately needed for this team.
I'm reading these comments and quite frankly, some are pathetic. As much as we may want, we're not going to play perfect every game...and every game isn't going to be Northwestern.
With that said, I thought this was one of the best half we've played all season. The only problem I had with the NW game was that it was easy...too easy. Afterwards I was praying that it didn't go to our heads. Iowa came out and hit us in the mouth, and we needed that. Someone who was going to be physical, throw a press at us, make shots...make us work.
I can't be happier in how our guys responded. As many of you know, I pay attention to our subs/rotations and I think the best thing we did all half was take Hardaway out after some sloppy play early. When he came back in, he was re-focused and it was a COMPLETELY different ball game.
If we play the way we did at the end of that half, there isn't a team in the country that can beat us. When you see Tim clapping and going nuts - we need that, we need him to play THAT hard. Burke too.
I think that was a GREAT half, perfect leading into the rest of the B1G season.

This team can score so easily. If we can up the defensive intensity a little we can challenge for a title.
