Open thread for crazy predictions - ND

Submitted by Lordfoul on

I am playing the part of nursemaid for my son, and therefor bored stiff at home all day. Reading all of the Michigan blogs has overloaded my brain, so I thought I would outlet some crazy predictions here so I can look stupid Sunday.

1. Michigan gets 5+ sacks on Crist, possibly knocking him out of the game.

After reviewing the video of all of ND's offensive plays, I believe Crist is a statue in the backfield, and will remind us of Threet trying to run a spread attack.  Purdue got to him several times, Martin & Roh will get to him even more.

2. Charles James Rogers gets one interception and generally looks competent.

I see this happening as a by-product of JT Floyd playing well and ND Floyd getting a lot of extra attention in the secondary.  At some point ND will go to the other side of the field and Rogers will show why we can all feel OK with this secondary.

3. Michigan forces 3 ND fumbles, recovering at least two of them.

Again, from the ND offense video it seemed to this observer that ND was a little sloppy handling the ball.  With all of the pressure our D-line and blitzing LBs will produce, coupled with our big hitters in Cam Gordon and Mouton, stirred up in a wet weather afternoon, I think the pigskin will be hitting the turf on Saturday.

How about the rest of you, any outrageous claims you'd like to utter?

I think James Rogers showed excellent reaction time against UConn, and I agree with you that he might get a pick Saturday -- I hope he jumps a screen or something for six the other way. So that's my prediction.

save yourself the angry responses from those that really need the game to start before they literally explode.

As to crazy predictions,

1. 2 different Michigan quarterbacks will be responsible for a Michigan touchdown

2. Michigan will not fumble a punt

3. All of Notre Dame's coaches will get out of this one without serious leg injuries

Forcier takes a snap in the first quarter with both Gardner and Robinson in the backfield......oh, and the disembodied college spirit of Charles Woodson starts at corner

Denard starts fast and we start out with a multiple TD lead. Go cold in 2nd half and ND makes a comeback. At which point we put in Tate and he leads the team back to victory for the 2nd strait year against ND. The following week every Michigan fan has no clue what they want seeing what both Tate and Denard are capable of.

Well... I saw the O-line of ND, and while they did somewhat alrigh on handling a 4-man rush, their blitz pickup was absolutely godawful.
So, this being said

Mouton/Robinson with 2+ sacks

Cam Gordon knocks someone unconscious (jumps a post route on a blitz because Crist is made of glass and terrified of said Robinson/Mouton

Death Roh forces a fumble

Offensively, I watched ND defensively and I think that, while Te'o is definetly a star, the rest of their D is slightly soft and slow to react.
So, Denard runs only 10 times

Therefore, Shaw and Smith run for 75 w/ a TD each

Stonum shows us why teams need to be teriffied of playing their safeties up to help cover the read option and goes 50+ for 6 down the seam.

NDs offensive line did not look good to me. UCONNs Oline, in theory, should be a pretty solid. Going off of those two things, I think our Dline gets consistent pressure and forces Crist to do some things that go in our favor. We need that to happen. I just don't think our secondary can handle him, or any QB for that matter, sitting in the pocket and making throws.

On the other side of the ball, I just don't see the talent up front capable of stopping Denard. In fact I only see two teams on the schedule with that kind of talent. Iowa and OSU. In the end, the only way I think we lose this game is if for some reason we can't get pressure or if Denard decides that this is the game he decides to show everyone that, yes, he is just a sophmore in his first season as a starter.

If I'm BK, I go max protect and throw it deep to Floyd at least every other play. They guy really is a man among boys. I just can't see our CB's consistently out-playing him for the ball. Realistically, I was not overly impressed with Crist's accuracy, particularly when pressured. We send the house, they max protect, and lots of big plays both ways. We win a shootout 77-76. Webb blocks the extra point in OT.

3 TD's for Denard.  2 passing, 1 running.  He runs for just over 100 yds, but throws for over 200.  And 1 turnover.  We only see 1 QB all game, unless Denard gets hurt.

D gets 2 sacks and 1 pick.

Crist is rattled at first, settles down because of the running game, and freaks out when the game is on the line late.

The run game seals it with a long drive in the 4th again.

Michigan 31- Notre Dame 28

...seem to haunt us in ND. This year, our young team exudes an "ignorance is bliss," confident approach and just relaxes, plays the game and has fun doing it.

Prediction:

Denard does well, but not as wildly phenomenal as last week. 110 yards on the ground and 150 through the air. Before it's over, Tate sees the field and performs well.

Defense bends, bends and bends some more, but doesn't break to the point we're ever behind in the game.

Final score (assuming relatively dry field):  28-21 Michigan

Notre Dame will publicly foresake Catholicism and become non-denominational Christian in order to appeal to a broader section of Southern football players.

Also, Vinopal will get 3 picks for touchdowns off Nate Montana.

given the predictions of everyone else, but:

Michael Floyd goes off.  Either Allen or Wood has a 60+ yard td.  Denard throws 2 picks.  ND wins something like 35-17.

Our O-line will manhandle their D line. Roh gets 3 sacks,  Crist will be pressured all afternoon. Another ND receiver will step out of bounds, and we'll see if Kelly whines about the officiating.  Denard breaks one big for a TD.   38UM-ND24.

Crazy prediction: The weather is so crappy and our O-line gets such a consistent push up front that we don't throw the ball once the entire game; we gain a total of 500 rushing yards (between Denard, Vincent, Shaw, and Cox); we don't turn the ball over once; we force 3+ turnovers because they can't handle our blitzing and our secondary plays with a chip on their shoulders; we win 52-10.

More realistic prediction: The weather is so crappy that both teams combine for a total of 8 turnovers and 5 missed field goals; RR pulls Denard midway through the 3rd quarter after he throws his 3rd interception, Tate comes in and leads the offense on a touchdown drive; Crist is generally pressured into making bad decisions, but settles in in the second half and lights up our inexperienced secondary; ND misses a FG as time expires, we win 27-24.

because the game is at ND and I am hoping that last week was not an anamoly. Michigan wins by a FG.

And you should teach your son how to sing the Victors. That will make the time pass by, assuming he can speak.

Another Robinson to Robinson connection that is almost to the inch identical to last weeks for a TD.

A blow out win for M, resulting in, yes, the very first "Fire Kelly" statements online Saturday night.

ND fans gasping in horror as Crist appears injured, but only has the wind knocked out of him. Twice.

Saturday. The longest one was 32 yards, the second longest 22 last Saturday, and the utterly calm and contained--nay, even masterly--sense that this may have offered to the team on the field left me ready to pop by game's end. Happy if we control tempo and TOP, but I NEED ONE BIG GAINER for a TD!!!
