Open BCS Championship Bowl Game Thread
Will Texas pull another big upset in the biggest game (please please please)? Will the great Satan win his 2nd at his 2nd SEC school? How glad are we that we're done with Fox? And will Denise from Taco Bell join us on ABC? All these questions and more will be answered during tonight's game. Here's to us not watching the game and commenting on it here in the near future because we're all AT the game, watching a much more likable team. :-)

Their last championship was no upset, that was a dang good team. They had Vince Young, a stable of running backs, a viable receiving corps, and a great defense.
January 7th, 2010 at 6:43 PM ^
They were a great team, but they were playing the "team of the history of college football" or atleast that's exactly what ESPN was making USC out to be. And that was an extremely talented USC team to boot.
So while an amazing team, and the winning team, it was still an upset. Going into that game nobody was giving them a shot in hell.
January 7th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
Eh, ESPN =/= Reality (See: "The Big Ten is the worst conference in history", or Drew Sharp talking). That was an extremely talented USC team, so an argument could be made either way (pregame coverage). I personally picked Texas, a lot of people did. Obviously, ESPN just didn't cover that part.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:09 PM ^
The betting lines agree more with ESPN's reality unfortuantly. The spread for that game was right around USC -8 at gametime... That means Texas was a pretty big underdog for that game.
Fortuantly they won the game. And at the end of the day that's all that really matters. Hook'em Horns!
January 7th, 2010 at 7:23 PM ^
Texas was a substantial underdog.
That Texas team was talented, but man was that USC team stacked.
IME USC was the better team but VY just had a performance for the ages to get Texas the victory.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:40 PM ^
I completely agree. That game VY simply carried texas to a win, it wasn't the OL opening up holes, or recievers making great catches. It was VY simplying dominating. Much like what he did to us the year before.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:28 PM ^
So you've retired now, right? On the game winnings. Since you were so sure and willing to tell everyone about it, you bet the farm and live a life of luxury today, right? ;-)

I was tempted to throw "(Not trying to brag, I also thought OSU would stomp Florida)" but rethought it. I guess I should go with my gut next time.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
And qho didn't think OSU was going to beat Florida? The only team that would have a chance to beat the Buckeyes that year was us. Uh, well...
January 7th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
Why do I keep seeing Pete Carol's face on the t.v?
January 7th, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
Hey its a small price to pay, to do all that crap means many hours he isn't recruiting =)
January 7th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
but with Herby kissing his ass all night ("you need a coach like Pete C who has been here before") he is basically recruiting. Cheatin' Pete sure does know his football though.

January 7th, 2010 at 10:29 PM ^
It's the dead period man, this IS his recruiting.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:11 PM ^
Kill me, but I like Carrol. He seems like a genuinely pretty good guy, and he sure as hell knows his shit when it comes to football. I don't even begrudge his SC teams slaughtered us out there.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
USC = bad. Pete Carroll lives near the ocean. Where he goes, to punch dolphins.
And, HOOK 'EM, HORNS!
January 7th, 2010 at 6:35 PM ^
I got Texas +4.5
And, the Over on Denise sightings.
Either way should be fun. Looking forward to watching it, after Michigan puts away the Nittany Kitties in hoops, natch.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:32 PM ^
But I thought it was a very cagey spread by Vegas. A little higher and everyone takes the underdog in. Champ game, a little lower and it's all on Bama's side. They did their job this time.
And let's hope you're right on your next two predictions. Right now the former is looking better than the latter. Yeesh. :-(
January 7th, 2010 at 6:48 PM ^
I think Alabama will win. I think Texas will hang around and lose maybe 34-20, although the game might seem closer. I don't think Texas has faced a D like Bama's. They play crappy Big12 defenses like Texas A&M. Texas' D is good, but not as good as Bama's.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:15 PM ^
Did you forget about Texas playing Nebraska and Oklahoma? Both of them are top 10 defenses, and Nebraska was clearly better at pass rush (2nd in the nation in sacks) than Alabama (32nd).
January 7th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
That was CMU/Troy, obviously. This is just the next-biggest game.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:04 PM ^
the line of scrimmage? If they do, I'm afraid Alabama will dominate this game.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:46 PM ^
I think Texas' defense is going to bitch slap Alabama's O. Just a hunch, but anger d/t disrespect could carry them a long way. The one thing I am certain of is that the team that scores the most points will win. Finishing second isn't a moral victory, just gives you the distinction of being the best known and most memorable LOSER.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
I have hated Texas and Mack Brown with a passion since Jan 1. 2005.
January 7th, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
Come on folks, Texas is #2 in all-time wins...
This is a slam dunk as who to root for...

I'm just excited that the loser of this game will have a conference record in bowls this year of .500 I believe. In addition, even with an Alabama win, the Big Ten will still have a better winning percentage in bowls this year than the SEC. No matter what happens tonight, the Big Ten finished 4-3 and the MAC is on a one game bowl winning streak (after a 13 bowl losing streak). Midwest football is back! Somehow I dont think anyone really gives a hoot, arguably not even in the Midwest. :)
Above is based on my memory of bowl outcomes this year and was not researched for accuracy...that would take too much time and effort
January 7th, 2010 at 7:49 PM ^
I'm the only one of my friends pulling for 'Bama. My friends cite "I hate Saban" as their primary reason to root for Texas.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
That's a really good reason your friends have though...
January 7th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
Yeah I don't disagree with them. I really dislike Texas and I think 'Bama can beat 'em. Also, it's time to break the Heisman curse.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
Of course you do.
They CAN win though.
January 7th, 2010 at 9:28 PM ^
are worth keeping. Hating Saban is consistent with good values.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
I think 'Bama's lines are overrated, but they're still extremely good. I think 'Bama takes this in the end because in the 4th they'll be able to use Ingram to kill the clock. Even so, likely a one score game. Watch them prove me wrong now.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:08 PM ^
The basketball game is too painful...
January 7th, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
...for the approximately 38 Penn State fans who actually attended.
Including the cheerleaders.
And the coaches.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
Who's hotter, his girlfriend or the waitress?
Still waiting, Denise...
January 7th, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
This just in: BG updated his status with "Let's go Bama!"
If BG is on the side of the Tide, it must be so.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:17 PM ^
I can't root for Saban...I can pick him, but I can't root for him.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:19 PM ^
Ingram is from Flint and BG is from Detroit so no. Yeah, Saban sucks, he's a liar.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:40 PM ^
Not sure the connection then.
And lying is one of Saban's better characteristics. And it's not good.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
Damnit! I wanted to root against Bama! Ah well, whatever BG says goes.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
Why is May wearing sunglasses??
January 7th, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
. . .because the sun never sets on a badass.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
I got nothin'. =)
January 7th, 2010 at 9:01 PM ^
haha i think he wears those glasses that turn to sunglasses when the sun is out so now he just has to put up with looking like that
January 7th, 2010 at 8:24 PM ^
I want to make picks like Caroll does. "If McCoy can run the ball, I feel Texas has a good chance."
For example my Pete Caroll-esque pick for tOSU-UMich: "If Tressel loses his mind and starts recruiting only circus midgets, I feel Michigan has an excellent chance for dominance in this decade."
January 7th, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
Like the basketball team is doing right now...
But they have it at 6 right now at least...
January 7th, 2010 at 8:26 PM ^
I was wondering the same thing about May. They must
have one helluva light system there.
Hook 'Em, Horns
This is going to be a good game, I hope Colt has
his 'A' game on tonight.
