One Bright Item - Denard Again Leads in Rushing

Well, after the mini-horror last night, I was checking stats.  Denard again leads the country in rushing.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/statistics/player/_/stat/rushing/sort/rushingYards/year/2010/group/80

1. Denard Robinson, MICH 1287
2. LaMichael James, ORE 1210
3. Kendall Hunter, OKST 1174
4. Cameron Newton, AUB 1122
5. Bilal Powell, LOU 1067

I think that it's thread-worthy.  I was really hoping that Michigan would get the ball for one more series so that Denard had a shot at another 200/200 game.

and bashing UM as much as possible, a board which you have recently tried to create, I suggest going to find an MSU blog or something. Here, we support the University of Michigan. We don't jump ship when there is still at least four games left in the season, no matter how dire things may seem. Dave Brandon will be saying the exact same thing, at least until the end of the season. At that point, we can cry (or rejoice) together.

I felt sick to my stomach watching that mess last night, and didn't feel appreciably better this morning.  Yesterday may very well have been a defining moment for this program and not a good one.

So, when I was looking at stats, and I saw that Denard was the leading rusher in the country, I smiled and felt there was a positive that I hadn't seen here before.  To have your QB as the leading rusher in the country is a big deal, a huge deal.  He had another stellar performance last night and for that, and for being who he is, he deserves our praise and support.

I feel bad that as the OP I offended you, but compared to some of the topics that get posted here, I am not sure why you were so negative.  The title was sufficiently adequate so if you didn't want to read it and have a very available link to rushing stats. why not move on without posting a rather petty comment?

Yeah Big - 10 yards of each and he's hit it for the third time THIS YEAR! That has to count for something.

I made a joke about Smith running into Shilling's thigh and falling over, and the buddy I was watching the game with about shot his drink out his nose. Not sure if it he found it funnier because it just happened, or what.

Love the effort these kids put out there, but we gotta get our guys into SPACE and not in the middle of a friggin mosh pit of 300 pounders.

Final note: love how Denard is really waiting until the DEnd commits to the runner before pulling the ball out for himself. The 2 step forward, dump pass is a wonderful thing to behold as well. This kid is amazing - can't wait to see him get even better over the next two years.

I think it is relevant because if we can get some healthy RBs and a moderately competent defense to go with The Denard Show, we can beat anybody.  We have the offense we want, and it is only going to get better with everybody returning next year.  Pay whatever it takes to find a stud DC (coaching and recruiting) and we will be fine.  RR needs to be here for another year at least.  Gerg does not.

Not only is he a beast of an athlete, he represents the university extremely well. I wonder how badly his shoulder really is injured as his accuracy seems to have dropped off considerably. And while I realize this may be hard to quantify, it appears to me that the loss of Odoms and his tenacious blocking on the outside may be impacting the run game more than one might expect from the loss of an outside receiver. Denard is a class act that deseverves every ounce of recognition he gets, be it a thread on our beloved blog or a front page cover story.

Denard set the Big Ten single-season record for rushing yards by a QB -- with 4 games to go in the season.  A remarkable accomplishment that is unfortunately overshadowed by this sour defeat.

"I call that Communist football. I'm so tired of it. Good, red-blooded Americans snap the ball, hand it to the guy and have a normal run game or pass game."

You know who doesn't care Denard is leading the nation in rushing?  Denard.  You know why?  Because his team lost last night.

This is good news.  The only thing that I have left to cheer for this season is statistics.  It his current rate, Denard needs about 50 more carries to break the all-time record for rushing yards by a QB.  The lone bright spot in yet another miserable Rodriguez year.

It might be worth pointing out that James didn't play in a 72-0 win over New Mexico and is thus averaging about 12 yards per game more than Denard.

Considering all the time that Denard missed due to his injuries against BGSU and Iowa, I'd say the total time missed is about even.

for getting arrested or drugs or something?  I'm gonna go ahead and hold that against him.  Denard's been out for injuries, not by being a moron.

but I'd rather he were lower down on that list and Stephen Hopkins or Shaw were at the top.

Robinson's taken some shots and already missed some playing time that he wouldn't have had to if our back's were able to shoulder much more of that load.

Robinson himself is the bright spot of the season for me.  Our receivers dropped some easy balls that would have made the game tighter and put D-Rob's numbers through the roof.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread - but I just finished watching the O film against Penn State. You know, I really think the off week was really good for Denard. There are some subtle things that he is now doing that I think show some continued development.

He is 1) showing the ball to the defender on the zone read longer - so that he can get a better read. 2) looking off his primary receiver to move safeties away from then intended target 3) increasing the use of the pump fake also to move defenders. 4) made a few quick reads on throws that weren't open and just ran instead of forcing things.

I think he just took himself up a level.
