Ondre Pipkins is upset with Josh Garnett

Submitted by MGoCooper on

According to Ondre Pipkins Twitter, he's pretty upset with Josh Garnett this evening. He feels he was lied to, and that is pretty much a direct quote. Obviously we don't know what was said to Ondre, but we can guess he thought it meant Garnett was definitely blue.

Note: I thought this deserved a thread of its own, because the Garnett thread was getting quite long.

I'd be interested in knowing if there are particular recruits he is close to at Stanford.  I mean, we've all seen that he and Erik Magnuson are tight, what with twitter and him being excited at the possibility of rooming with him.  Pipkins seemed like he felt betrayed which would indicate a friendship there.  I guess I'm wondering if there were recruits at Stanford he's particularly tight with that were more of a draw,  or if it just came down to location in the end.  And does he honestly think Stanford is going to reach their previous levels w/o Harbaugh and Luck?

Why do you act like such an ass to the original poster of this topic and then carry on conversations all throughout it?

I'm just curious as to how that mindset works. It seems that someone would just ignore a thread and let it die if he didn't think it should be on the board.

Whether Reeves goes Blue or not, I like his style better than Garnetts.  I prefer his limited comments compared to all of Garnett's pro UM tweets.

My opinion, is that it's just a misunderstanding. Because from the things you read about Josh Garnett, he seems like a stand up kid that you want to see succeed. Good Luck to Josh, again, but Go Blue!

I don't blame Garnett for picking Stanford, but I love Ondre's enthusiasm and love for Michigan. This kid bleeds maize and blue. Can't wait to see him suit up for us.

Maybe I shouldn't be frustrated because we have a great class coming in even if we don't get any of the top remaining guys we have targeted.  And, maybe that's the nature of dealing with 17 and 18 year old kids.  But, sheesh, this process is frustrating.  It seems like we would be the logical choice and/or are the front runner only to lose out on a guy.  I know you can't get them all, but it has been truely frustrating to see Meyer nail down top recruit after top recruit while we haven't had a big commit in what seems like ages.  Not that I expected us to get those guys, but I sure don't want them going to OSU.  All that momentum we had going seems to be disapating.  Heck, I already saw Adam Rittenburg, the ESPN B1G blogger staking OSU as the 2013 favorite.  I'm still hopeful for our remaining targets, but from what I've read I'm finding it hard not to be frustrated by losing out on this one.

Meh, whatevs. We got Kalis off of OSU and maybe even Reeves. The kid wants to go to Stanford and I say best of luck. This why you concentrate your efforts in the Midwest. It is always going to be hard to pull a kid off the West Coast. We were close but distance is usually a big factor and lets face it, it is cold as hell in the winter. Now if this global warming thing kicks in I think we will start winning some of these battles.

I didnt realize that even the other schools he once considered were pretty much all west coast schools. To me, that alone shows that it would be a big deal for him to not only leave his state but come across the country. I do respect Coach Hoke and whoever else was in on recruiting this kid, as it appears they presented themselves very well and represented Michigan like true Michigan men.

The Stanford Medicine shirt was a dead give away.  If this guy manages to play major FBS football at a high level and still get into Stanford medical school, I would be impressed.

That could very well have been used in the recruiting process....like a "Hey, we look out for our own here.  You keep the grades up, there's a good chance you'll get in"....and I personally think there's nothing wrong with that.  Just saying if he had his heart set on Stanford med school, getting his foot in the door (so to speak) would be awfully tempting to pass up.

Would happen. I don't have a good vibe on Diamond. He supposedly has been a lean for a year. How long can you lean and not know for certain.

Wow this kid really fooled me! I could have sworn he was 100% Blue... Everything lined up, the visits, the in-home's, the friendship, the smiley faces, the interviews, the tweets etc.

I guess i should have been a little more of a believer when he said he really didn't know where he was going to go. The kid had a tough choice to make and he chose what he thought was best for him. It's a little unfortunate if he lead some of our recruits to believe he was going to go blue, but we all need to act like adults(especially the twitter stalkers) and wish this kid the best of luck!

I think a lot of people got played.   It just doesn't make sense for a cerebral kid like Garnett to claim he has no idea where he's going the night before an announcement date, that was picked out by his sister.

going off his comments in interviews and twitter the last few weeks / months I'm surprised. obviously he was telling Ondre and Erik he was comign to AA from the reactions. I hope Josh has a great time at Stanford he seemed to be a great kid , but i'm done with him. We won;t see him in a rose bowl but i hope we see him before he graduates with the pac 12 - big 10 agreements. i know I feel like I was lied to

If we get Diamond and/or Kozan, I honestly don't think this will turn into much of an issue. Yeah I'd like to have Garnett, but he's earned the right to make this decision, and there really was no wrong answer for him in this. Best of luck to him, until the day he lines up against Michigan.

I will never understand recruiting.  With a brand new coach and straight off of a shitty season, we reel in recruits by the pair.  After an 11-2 season and a BCS win, not a peep.  Just strange.
