Ondre Pipkins Update

Submitted by MGoShoe on

Via his Twitter account, MO DT Ondre Pipkins provided an update to his recruiting status. Major points:

  • Top 6 (in order): Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Missouri, Florida
  • Intends to take officials in the fall
  • Hasn't been in contact with other Michigan recruits
  • Has visited Missouri, Kansas, Ohio State
  • Hopes to visit Michigan soon
  • Wants to major in business administration or communication

[Edit: Added the last bullet after another review of the Q&A session]

This guy is huge, and it's crazy to see that there's actually going to be spots available during the season. Pipkins and Shittu both want to take officials, so we better keep spots for a couple stud DTs

Pipkins, O'brien, and Shittu all plan on waiting. I can't decide which of these three I like the most. I really hope we decide to take two if we have the chance.

He's the only true nose we're recruiting though as the other guys are probably more suited for the 3-tech. I think getting Pipkins and a WR should the top priority in this class going forward. Obviously, it would be nice to land some other big players, but those are the biggest positions of need.

There was a bunch of rumbling and speculation—sparked by some vague comment Ondre made a couple of weeks ago—that he might pull the trigger quickly, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards now.

He has to know that the DL spots are limited, and if the coaches take just one more guy besides Wormley then Pipkins is really gambling that a spot will still be there by the time he makes a decision. This new statement tells me that while Michigan may be his supposed leader, playing for Michigan isn't really any more of a goal for him than playing for Alabama or Tennessee at this point.
