Get well soon Ondre!
only hurts our lack of play making ability on the DLine
get well Ondre. this really sucks.
Get well soon, Peewee!
A really crappy part of this is that he cannot take a medical redshirt because this was the 5th game.
I was wondering about this because in the press conference Hoke said they may need to appeal for a medical redshirt. Does that mean NCAA sometimes makes exception to the 30% of the season rule?
+1 for the Kansas City reference.
Hopefully, his recorvery is full and expeditious. Between the hospital and the staff, he's definitely in excellent hands, of course.
Well, fuck this.
Huge bummer, hopefully he rehabs well and can come back better than ever. Hate to see him lose out on any development, but next year was his year anyway.
Silver lining (if there is any for an injury) is that if we had to lose our #2 option at any defensive position, NT was proobably the one to do it. Washington is very good, and the games that are most likely to threaten our defense (NW, Neb, OSU) wouldn't see very much of the NT anyway. I could see us moving Henry over to NT for the rest of the season and be pretty much fine.
Damn. Get well soon Ondre
It sucks, but I guess every team goes through stuff like this and one can only expect a speedy recovery. Will be interesting to see how Mattison compensates, though, as teams like MSU and OSU will undoubtedly try to establish inside running even more and try to wear down what looks to be basically Washington and, I guess, Ash.
Thankfully, Washington is the starter and Ash has game experience. Black/HenryGlasgow should provide well enough dept for the other position that Washington/Ash can get the job done.
Also, I hope Ryan comes back just as good, if not better than before so Beyer can move back down to the line and provide depth there as well.
Wasn't either Heitzman/Wormley/Strobel a NT/DT before? I thought one of them was a tackle size that could still flip-flop back to inside if they HAD to.
Just put some tussin on it
Bottle gets low, put some water in the bottle...mo tussin.
Hope you recovery goes well
Has he played in every game so far? I think if he has only played in <4 games he can still get a medical redshirt.
He didn't record any stats against ND, but he played.
A heartbreaker. Had the feeling that he was in the midst of quantum leap. Get well, big fella.
This just really sucks.
DAAAAAAAMMIIIIT!!!!!! Any chance of a medical RS at this point??
No. If it had happened in the 4th game of the season, then he would get a medical redshirt, but since it happened in the 5th game, there is no chance of a redshirt.
that bites. Isnt the rule 30% of games played? 4 out of 13 = 30%
Even with the Big 10 championship game 5 out of 14 = 35%
Can't wait till you can walk again.
Get well soon, Ondre! I hate it for the guy.
For those struggling with the news:
That's 6 torn ACLs since the start of last year. Fuck.
This absolutely sucks. I feel for Pipkins as he was really making some strides, I thought, this year. I hope he can get a medical-redshirt, but more importantly, a complete recovery. This guy is a HUGE piece to our D-line moving forward.
The only silver lining I can see out of this is that Poggi and Henry get to step in more (Assuming Poggi isn't redshirting).
Such a Blow! Get well soon, Pipkins!
noooooooooo get well soon peewee
doing the Lachman test on his knee, which is never a good sign since all it tests for is a torn ACL.
I feel bad for him. Here's hoping he recovers quickly and without any problems.
You almost always do a Lachman's when any athlete reports knee pain. The trainers (or more likely, the lower-extremity Ortho) performing a Lachman's after a knee injury doesn't really provide any hints as to pathology.
Who gets those snaps now? True Freshman? Or do we just go smaller?
That seems most likely to me, FWIW.
Q Wash will probably have to suck it up and take more snaps, with Ash spelling him as needed instead of a true rotation like with Pipkins. I think Henry sticks at 3 tech since Black should be lifted for a bigger body in short yardage situations.
Next man up.
...go away. Stay away.
Georgia lost their other RB and a starting WR to ACLs Saturday, http://sports.yahoo.com/news/injuries-impacting-no-7-georgias-165708582--ncaaf.html
The AC Elephant is not making this easy on me.
Get well Peewee the team needs you and the fans are pulling for you...This is the time that seperates the men from the boys..you can take it easy and gain bad weight and not push hard...or you can come back stronger and more determined than ever..good luck kid
And no medical redshirt either. This just sucks. Hopefully he can stay in shape or this will cost him two full years.
Why no medical redshirt he's only played in 5 games?
Because he's played in five games...
Damn... Get well big guy.
He's fine he came back in the game on the next offensive drive
I hope he recovers quickly and is 100% for fall camp next year. Can't believe it'll be his junior season.
Why do we not put all linemen in steel kneee braces to prevent at least some of these injuries?
300 pound linemen are a natural set-up to put a large amount of abnormal stress on their relatively little knees. In playing their positions they do not need to pivot as much as a running back or cornerback or quarterback does. I would think the minor loss of mobility could be compensated and the potential gain from avoiding injuries would be significant.
Because the last time i looked (a few years ago, granted) prophylactic use of braces have not been shown to prevent ACL injuries.
They're required to wear them in practice, but they haven't been proven 100% effective. Wormley tore his last year while wearing a custom fit knee brace.
Can we say "fuckety fuck fuck" here?
wish the best for ya PeeWee. Gotta think one of the 3's moves to nose now
STORE HIGH IN TRANSIT!!!!!!
Not what Ondre or our D-line needed right now. I hope he makes a fast, full recovery and that some of the young guys can step it up (Henry, Wormley, Godin).
FUCK ME! He has worked so hard and when he committed, I was hooked on recruiting. Get well dude.
They only count the regular season. Bowl games and conference championships don't count.
Should be in response to Alum96.
Well this blows... The worst part is how he was injured. If anyone has the game on DVR, can you verify how he was hurt? I saw it in real-time and rewound it. It looked like a blindside crack back block by Minny's TE. My gut reaction was that it was a cheap shot but I'm biased.
Hopefully the coaches are looking at our strength program closely, we've had too many ACL tears recently. I can't recall any recent Michigan team having anything approaching the # of ACL issues as we have since Hoke took over.
He was injured when a Minnesota dude fell on his leg. It had nothing to do with strength and conditioning.
There may possibly be ways to reduce non-contact ACL tears by increasing flexibility, but contact tears are pretty much always going to happen.
Get well soon Optimus pee wee prime! Back when i messed with twitter a few years a go him and Magnuson retweeted some stuff i had tweeted about that recruiting class and sent me some messgaes, automatically loved the guys no matter what happend in college. I hope he gets his redshirt and heals up to be better than before
It figures it would come against Minnesota. We seem to have all sorts of big leg injuries to players historically against the Gophers.
Also Tony Boles, I believe.
The kid put in so much work to lose that weight.
Knew it right when I saw it on replay. Feel awful for him, get well soon PeeWee!
This makes an already weak defensive line interior weaker. Washington, Ash, and Henry try hard, they just aren't playmakers
Worried about our absolute value of ACL tears.
I'm wondering if this was related to the field turf somehow (guessing its identical to practice fields and indoors). I recall the astro/artificial turf of the early 80s was responsible for a lot of injuries due to not releasing a foot when a loss of traction would have released the stress of the injury event. That said I do not want to go back to the natural grass experiement. While the field looked great in sept and average in oct, by nov it was cloddy with more divots than solid sod.
On the other hand, whoever figures out a brace-type system or set of conditioning exercises to improve the probabilities will almost certainly live in gridiron wiki infamy...
Field turf is different from AstroTurf. The rubber pellets in the field turf act as dirt would in a normal field. It allows a bit of "give" in the field and therefore allows the joints to turn easier and safer than AstroTurf would.
I'd say it's more that the Field Turf fibers are long, mimicking real grass, and they aren't as grippy as the very short AstroTurf fibers were. The rubber pellets provide cushioning as far as running and landing on the field, but have far less to do with pivoting on it than the fibers do.
I watched the hit several times. He looked to let his guard down and got blown up by a big guy. It really didnt look like he landed too weird but alas... Just hope these guys can come back strong after injuries like this by staying ahead of school and football film. As well as keep working upper body strength
Get back JMFR but lose Pee Wee. Figures.....get well soon bud.
Ugh! The ACL god giveth (Jake Ryan) and the ACL god taketh away. Apparently this is a zero sum game.
Because on real grass, players never fall on each others' legs?
Sorry I just hate the thought of it
A $50,000-a-year scholarship ain't peanuts.
