Once again, We control our own destiny
Purdue first.
available right now on StubHub for Michigan @ Purdue tomorrow night at 7pm. Tempting idea, driving those 130 miles from SW Michigan to W. Lafayette when I get out of work tomorrow....
Another reason to have no respect for Purdue: $6 tickets on stub hub against a top ten team, and one that Purdue always plays like a "rivalry game." If their own fans don't care, why should anyone else?
I'll bet there were plenty of $6 tix in Crisler at the end of Beilein's first year.
That year students had it made for tickets at Michigan- there were lots of incentives for games- so counting free crap you got games were basically free.
The sad part for me is that Purdue this year is much better than that Michigan team. They are 7-9 with two home games left- granted home games against Michigan and Minnesota are tough- they could get to .500- fans should come out and cheer for that. They made the Sweet 16 in '09 and '10, and the tournament the last two years. They have been a solid program, and have decent tradition- it is sad tickets are apparently so easy to come by for this game...
I can understand it.
Mid-week game. Not Senior Night. Rough start to what was always going to be a rebuilding year (6-6 non-conference schedule with a loss to EMU). Got blown out at home in historic fasion in rivalry game (a game in which no one left until the game ended). "Are we bubble in for the NIT?" is not a big casual fan draw.
Now, I'm not saying they don't deserve fan support. They've, in many ways, overachieved after the core players that had defined Purdue for half a decade graduated (E'tuan Moore, Jujuan Johnson, the long saga of Robbie Hummel). Going into Wisconsin and winning by 13 is tough and they're going to be competitive in the conference next year as Hammonds looks like the real deal. And everytime I've seen a Purdue home game, they've played hard and had loud and large student support. It will be a tough setting for Michigan regardless of the $6 tix.
But I am saying that I can understand non-student fans choosing not to make at least a 3 hour commitment on a Wednesday night. People are kidding themselves if they think Crisler wouldn't be the same in a similar situation.
You wrote that up before the game was in hand didn't you? SHAME ON YOU

but seriously
when Ohio was up 10 with 1:15 left... Can't blame me for getting a head start... And didn't post it until there were all zeroes on the clock. I'm pretty sure there's no shame here.
No shame at all. Well played, Hokemaniac.

Starting threads on MGoBlog: serious business.
It's time to put up or shut up. We can get another title.
Fucking Penn State. Fucking half-court shots.
I hear you, in my head I'm like: 3 pt loss @ OSU, Wisconsin miracle shot, Penn State shitshow. God we should've had the title 3 times over.
We could have lost the home games to OSU and MSU just as easily. We're probably close to where we belong.
Yeah, but the other four contenders are probably thinking the same thing about their own heartbreaking or boneheaded losses (example: IU's meltdown in the last two minutes of their game at Illinois). B1G is a bitch this year.
Thank you Ohio for giving both yourselves and TSUN a chance at a title. Now suck it up and root for your enemy.
why they didn't foul that dude.
Destiny awaits....
Kelly.... Yes, please
Two major concerns:
1. When we control our destiny, we crap the bed.
2. No matter how crappy Purdue is, they always shoot lights out against us.
Fuck Penn State and Wisconsin.
It will be interesting to see how Purdue plays. They just played their game of the year @ Wisc.
Doubt they play like that 2 games in a row. I'm pretty sure Michigan will hit a 3 this game as well.
I can't generate any hatred towards Penn State for that game. We had a lead and pissed it away, but they won the game fair and square (officiating was just typical away B1G officiating). Wisconsin on the other hand? They can go screw themselves.
of the stauskas injury and playing levert might improve our defense a little bit. It could also be a minor epiphany that stauskas could be better off the bench to get the crucial three pointer when necessary. . .
You know Byrd is going to go off tommorow.
Well, for a half anyway. It was the first half last time we played. It was the second half against their win at Wisconsin. Hope he doesn't put a whole game together.
If Michigan wins out, what seed will they get in the B10 Tourn.?
unfortunatley
3 if MSU beats Wisconsin, 4 if it goes the other way.
I guess I can't help myself.
Understand
Please let Ohio lose to Illinois, Wisconsin beat msu, and Michigan win out!!!!
Wouldn't Wisconsin then win the title due to their tiebreaker over us?
They'd tie for it with us and IU because they'd have the same record. I'd rather tie with IU and Wisconsin than msu or ohio.
For regular season title there are no tiebreakers, the team(s) with the best record win the title If we beat Purdue and Indiana, then it's highly likely we have a 4-way tie: Indiana, Michigan, winner of Wisconsin/MSU, and Ohio State as Big Ten champs.
For seeding purposes, Wisconsin would get a better seed, in this scenario I think we end up the 4-seed in the tournament.
Little bro n retarded neighbor both better lose
Edit: this was previously reply to some mouthbreather who left an idiotic comment. Disregard.
You Think I care? Lol
Oh crap, here we go again...
Good God, BEAT PURDON'T
Calling them "Purdon't" seems like something that I would have found funny when I was like eight years old.
To earn the right to play for the title. Need to give it 40 minutes and really step on their necks. Get up early and pour it on.
Two seconds thinking about anything other than Purdue is three seconds too many.
If we didn't speculate about the future, 75% of this blog content would be gone. We're fans, not the team.
For sure. I guess I mean this young team...
Though getting ahead of things hasn't worked out so hot for us fans either this season.
Anyway, IU's loss doesn't mean a whole lot to us until after we beat Purdue.
But it's worth focusing on Purdue, because it could be a good game. They're not a pushover. They're 7-9 in league play, and road trips in this conference are seldom easy.
...on Purdue...one game at a time! Wednesday's game is tremendous. Purdue handled Wisconsin @ Wisco...and they aren't going to rollover for us.
Purdue is terrible.
Penn State.
and stop saying that.
this question on the game trhead so I'll post it here as well.
If Sparty beats Wisc, and four teams finish 13-5, who would be the #1 Seed?
I think Sparty.
Everyone would be even against each other at the top (everyone would be 1-1) and once again Wisconsin would be the next tie-breaker. Sparty would be 2-0 agains them. I then think we'd become the 4 seed. Actually maybe not. They lost to Wiscy also which would mean the next tie-breaker team, Minnesota, which we beat twice. Indiana a 4-seed?!
I could be terribly wrong on all of this I'm doing if off the top of my head right now.
Edit: Wrong. Indiana is #1 as they beat Sparty twice.
...but it was mentioned that Michigan's seed won't be good due to the Wisconsin loss.
Apperantly we lose a lot of the tie-breakers.
Now MSU and Wisky still play each other so one of them will fall to 6 losses. We just need to win 2 games, screw the seeds.
I do want to face Wisky in the B1G Tournament again though...and PSU. Those losses just pissed me off. I hope we get the Nittany Lions and then the Bagers right after. Get those losses out of the way in then move on to play one of the Big Boys (no offense to Wisconsin).
If we play PSU, that means we're the 5 seed and have to play an extra game.
No thanks.
I was hoping somehow they'd have to play a game to get to us...forget that then.
I was hoping somehow they'd have to play a game to get to us...forget that then.
Or we're the 4 seed and PSU beat Wisky on a buzzer beater half court 4 pt play that caused Bo Ryan's head to explode (a man can dream can't he?)

Illinois DESTROYED Ohio the first time around, and they're somewhat fighting for the Tournament resume right now.
Ohio could have a little post-IU hangover and Illinois could go in there and get a win. This would obviously help Michigan move up in terms of seeding.

IU would get the 1 seed. They'd have a 4-2 record against the tied teams. MSU would be 4th @ 2-4. We'd tie OSU at 3-3 but they'd win the tie-breaker for the 2 seed because they'd have a better record against the #5 team (Wisconsin.)
If Wisconsin wins out and we beat IU, they're the 1 seed.
Would that push us to the #4 seed?
Also, I feel like Illinois is going to give Ohio a run for their money.
Yep. Wisconsin would be the 1 at 3-1 vs. us, IU, and OSU. OSU would be second at 3-3. We'd tie IU at 2-3 but they have a better record against Sparty. So we'd likely face Sparty in the quarters in that scenario. Joy.

We get screwed by the tiebreakers. There's no way we can get the 1 seed, and we can only get a 2 if OSU, Wisconsin, and MSU all lose another game. Here's the seeding for the two 4-way tie scenarios:
- Wisconsin
- Ohio State
- Indiana
- Michigan
OR
- Indiana
- Ohio State
- Michigan
- Michigan State
I half-hope Beilien told the guys to stay away from this game tonight, and focus on the only task ahead that matters, Purdue tomorrow night.
First was their win at home vs. MSU
Let's take advantage of it!
Sidenote, Beilein said at the beginning of the year that he felt the winner of this conference would have "4 or 5" losses and I remember the announcers laughing at him and saying it was overkill.
was the quote and clearly remember Dakich having a saracastic chuckle at the thought. 5-6 seemed high to me at the time as I didn't see Indiana losing that many. They still may not. Anyway, that quote stuck with me as the losses started to pile up for these teams. Beilein knows this league.
It was Dakich...I also remember because he did the majority of our games early in the year.

Was this a double post in reply to your own comment?
/mind blown
Beilein needs to remind these guys they can still win back-to-back B1G titles. Any extra motivation would be great to help them focus tomorrow.
God willing, Championship game on Sunday. I couldn't care less about b10 tournament seeding...Back to back championships in the best league in the country...That would be one heck of a legacy for Trey Burke to leave at the University of Michigan. Come on blue, you've got this.
Seth if you post the IU guess the score right now, I swear on all that is holy....
But how long will espn keep showing that Clowney hit on V. Smith in the bowl game? It was 1 of 2 effing good plays he had in the whole damn game.
as long as the play is on the Best of the Best play. It has not been unseated for weeks.
The prevailing lines that I can find would have Michigan as a 6-7 point favorite, and indeed, Massey and TeamRankings are going with about a 75% chance for a Michigan win. By the numbers, this really is all about the wins now. By many estimates, our chances of winning out are not insignifcant either - by Massey's numbers, it would be a bit less than 40% to win out. Not impressive odds, but not so small as to not garner a mention.
As for Purdue, by the stats, we're much better on offense and about the same on defense, so hopefully, we win tomorrow and the regular season's final game becomes a truly classic, full-of-consquences game.
This is gonna be a grind. Woud you rather Michigan lose on friday or saturday next week if it meant they had a longer rest? I think the lack of rest really screwed them last year.
Man, Michigan is half court shot and a bad Penn State loss away from having a one game lead in the Big Ten and a chance on Sunday to win the conference out right!
Agreed, but we could've just as easily lost to OSU and MSU at home (beat them by a combined 3 points). We're probably right around where we should be (I would argue between Wisconsin/Penn State/3-Point Loss to OSU we should've grabbed one of them, but, it didn't work out like that).
Is there a scenario where Michigan and Wisconsin would play in the semis? I think that would be fantastic. And I doubt I'm alone on this.
Two scenarios
If we win out and Wisconsin wins out, we'd be the 4 and they'd be the 1. If both teams go 1-1, we'd be the 5 and Wisconsin the 4, so we'd play them in the quarters.
"Gary Moeller's Wife"? That's your username?
Come on. Let's have a little decency.
We've been given a second chance, but none of that matters if we don't take care of business at Purdue tomorrow. Purdue may not have a lot to play for, but I'm sure they'd love nothing more than to ruin our hopes for a championship. Step on the gas tomorrow night and don't let up for 40 minutes.
Then we'll worry about Indiana.
I'm in a happy mood for obvious reason. With the win now, this cuts the number of possible permutations from eight to four assuming OSU beats Illinois, Michigan beats Purdue, MSU beats NW, and Wisconsin beats PSU. Obviously if Indiana wins, they claim the title outright. Below listed are the scenarios for seeding going into the Big Ten Tournament.
Indians beats Michigan, Michigan State beats Wisconsin
1. Indiana 14-4
2. OSU 13-5
3. MSU 13-5
4. Wisconsin 12-6
5. Michigan 12-6

As for this week; its weird having to root for your rival to help each other so I guess this means I have to root for Michigan. Go Bl.... I can't do it, just win the damn game; thanks! After this week is over please resume to your normal hate of Ohio State, I wouldn't want it any other way. A few jabs and Ohio jokes on Mgoblog will help to reestablish the hate.
In your final scenario, Michigan would be 4 and IU 3. Both teams lost to Wisconsin and split with OSU and each other, but IU has the better record against the 5 seed, so they'd win the tie-breaker.
That may be true but you may want to refer to the link here from where I got the scenarios from. I forgot to add it to my post. In addition here are the Big Ten seeding rules.Hope this clears up any confusion or mistakes the author may have made. Everything looked right when I read the article. Sorry for the confusion.
Not your fault. That article mistakenly has IU splitting with MSU instead of sweeping them (interestingly, it also has UM incorrectly splitting with Minnesota). But because IU was 2-0 against MSU, they hold the tie-breaker edge.
Per my friend, who is a Michigan manager. Coach Beilein said "OK, so no bullshit from you bitches tomorrow," on the bus at the team once IU/OSU went final. I'd like to emphasize, I don't care what you do with Purdue, just beat IU, please? Thanks. Good lookin' out.
Will do.
I have a hard time picturing Beilein saying that, especially 'bitches'
It was posted on the Internet, so obviously it's correct. I expect ESPN to pick up this story within the hour.
You're right, I'm lying so you guys can accept me. Idk what to tell you, coaches swear?
Yes, but what does this do to the earlier MGOBLOG thread, "ESPN has Michigan in the PERFECT bracket"? So long, perfect bracket. We hardly knew you....

My suggestion for Bacari's pregame speech tonight...
"If you finish a game out of first after beating Sparty and Indiana because you blew it against Penn State AND Purdue, you'll take it to your fucking grave!"
Play like Michigan. BEAT. PURDUE.
Luckily, there is a tournment at the end of the season where everyone controls their own destiny. Once you're on the main grid, it only takes six wins.
But it only takes two wins to hang a Conference Championship banner. Let's do that first. Then we can worry about hanging a NCAA Championship banner.
We're two wins from a conference title, folks. Go Blue, Beat Purdue!
It is fitting that the Penn State loss is virtually meaningless. I suppose if we had won, we could be playing for the conference outright, but a conference title is still a conference title. It's (almost) like that loss never happened.
Also, in a conference as tough as the Big Ten this year, it's only fitting we finish in a 4-way tie.
Oh the Penn State loss happened and we'll be feeling the repercussions of it once the seeds come out for the NCAA tourney. Still, as low as we all were last week, it's awesome to suddenly be very much alive for the conference title hunt.
Beat. Purdue.
Something I don't understand about our Penn State loss is that a lot of people are pegging Kansas as a 1-seed when they play in a weaker conference than the Big Ten and have a worse loss (to TCU) than we do.
I have the same confusion. They did win at OSU and at K State, so maybe better road wins forms the rationale.
Your ability to polish a turd impresses me.
HAIL
Hopefully Purdue is our "Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed
" moment.I want this team to be back to back conference champs like everyone else, but sharing sucks, especially with your hated rivals. Nebraska '97 is one thing, sharing with Ohio and possibly Sparty is sickening.
Go Blue
So you'd rather lose one or both of our final two games to avoid sharing with them?
I know that's not what you meant, haha. I agree that winning outright > sharing with anyone but OSU/MSU > sharing with combination of OSU/MSU > not winning one at all.
Sharing a jail cell, a spouse, or last place- bad
Sharing a championship- good
...and no chance to avenge, factor into this if we both have 5 losses at the end?
On 3pt FG made tonight? How's Nik's face, is he active?
