Ole Miss being investigated by NCAA

Submitted by Amaizing Blue on

Can't link from phone, but the player who was involved in the domestic violence case with his stepfather is alleged by said stepfather to have had his transcript falsified and gotten money and gifts from both the University and agents.  I for one will be SHOCKED if any of this is true.  (Insert Treadwell/bagman/Hugh Freese joke here.). Granted the stepfather has a good reason to make player look bad, but it rings absolutely true to me.

The same could be said about a once proud football program and a once respected coach fighting to save his job  and he suddenly signs the best cornerback in the country amidst a losing season, couldn't they? just pointing out what some schools could be thinking about jabril peppers and derick green. although in the green case most all the top schools cooled on him in the end. TOSU signed Ezekiel Elliot instead.

Until parents and/or their kids who commit to this school or any other school (insert...SEC) that is doing this crap get a clue and realize there's no such thing as an overnight success, then we'll continue to see this headline...with nothing whatsoever being done to change it.

SNAFU.

From the USA Today story upthread....

But on Thursday, Miller told The Clarion-Ledger that, in addition to the contact made by agents, he is aware of violations that occurred during Tunsil's recruitment as well, including claims of falsified academic records and gifts made by the university.

Ole Miss offering recruits the three-piece lounge suite AND the car in exchange for a commitment to their fine institution? Never have I heard such a story in the SEC....today anyway.

I have a hard time believing anything will come of this.  If the NCAA hasn't seen good reason to investigate Ole Miss up to this point, methinks it isn't going to start now.

That said, whoof.  That is not a good situation at all down there in Oxford.

Can someone post the pic that Laquan Treadwell posted with all the $100 bills right after he commited to Ole Miss?

The best part is that I just GIS'd "Laquan Treadwell" straight up, with no qualifiers, and this was the third thing that showed up.

The second thing was the pic with him and the Ole Miss "hostess" girls on his recruiting trip that was posted earlier.

better watch out! We all know they pulled in the top class a few years ago because Ole Miss was only sorta dogshit, teenagers want to live in Mississippi big-time and Hugh Freese was taught "protective instincts" for an OL by Sanda Bullock one day during practice. Occam's Razor, guys......

It always mesmerized me how Treadwell was so high on Michigan for so long and then Ole Miss came out of nowhere. I live in the South and their fans are obnoxious and most of them are a bunch of frat-tastic douches!

they just had a full blown race riot in the exact spot of the "original" that killed people in our parents lifetime. It was only a couple years ago they did it again. Why any minority would play under a mascot that embodies slavery, systemic gentrification & racism is insane to me. The name "Ole Miss" is borderline racist, ffs lol

Meh... most schools were racist as fuck back in the day... Granted the southern SEC ones took it to the next extreme.

Shit I'm still shocked black players go to Kentucky considering their demigod Adolph Rupp was a racist piece of shit too.

racism isn't exclusive to any one place but Mississippi is the undisputed heavyweight champ in America. They JUST ratified the anti-slavery amendment a few years ago, after the movie "Lincoln" was released lol. Lincoln....the movie was out before they decided to take that one on. That's the thing I don't get as racism is everywhere but Mississippi flaunts it. Runnin' Rebels, Got damn!

Five years ago I was on a work assignment in Mississippi, in a town comprised of mostly AAs, and had plenty of racism thrown my way because I look white even though I'm only half white.

that's the sad thing: it's an innate human function. We hate what we can't predict so we use past experience and mostly learned behavior to help us predict what the next black, white, etc person will be like. Group people up and logic, empathy goes out the window. There is no fix for it outside of thinking logically on a daily basis & using basic human decency. I actually hate when I hear someone say they aren't racist. Yes, yes you are. You're just maybe less racist than the next guy. PS: your name puts me in tears every time lol. I think I've told you this before but I can't help it.

You're confusing words together.

Everyone is not racist. People don't inherently believe one race is better than the other from the onset of birth...

People are prone to stereotyping (brown ppl talk like Apu) and prejudice (negative attitude towards said brown ppl) which can lead to discrimination (putting up an English please sign on a door) unintentionally or intentionally... If intentional, can deff lead to racism (my race is superior to yours') down the road...

of course no baby is born thinking jews have all the money (David Cross bit). The human brain likes to take shortcuts. We try, without ability to help it, to predict an outcome from previous experience, learned behavior, taught behaviour (!) & others. Taught behaviour is what breeds that outright vitriolic racism we all think of when we think of racist behavior/beliefs. Most of them were babies brought up to think jews have all the money, etc. If I gave you a stat that 80% of the prison population are 25 year old Puerto Rican males, what does that say about the next 25 year old male Puerto Rican you meet? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. However, our brains are wired in a way that groups things together to speed up decision making. For instance: I may notice from birth that most red colored foods I eat taste good. So, I'd be perfectly fine (and likely) to be willing to try any new item that was colored red. That doesn't mean EVERYTHING colored red is either delicious or even edible. You understand? Unless you're an X-Men mutant, this is how your brain operates. It's the same with breathing oxygen - you're human therefore it's fact. The only thing we can do and what most logical people do is consciously give every single person a clean slate. I'm sure you both do this. I like to think I do, too. Yet, the desire of the brain to group things together and form future conclusions on previously gathered info is innate - period. I may not like the idea of cancer but it doesn't shield me from it. The lack of diagnosing what creates racism (lack of thought & effort to defeat that way of thinking on a daily basis) is exactly why we'll never be rid of it. Racism can't be wished away or defeated by anything but recognizing where it comes from. I stand by what I said (and almost every neurologist, psychologist, etc she's on) in that we are all racist. The level at which you are is the only difference and nobody is a "zero". The sooner we see this the sooner actual progress can be made instead of merely hiding it in public. I don't hate anyone but I'm not everywhere all the time. Could I ever be in a situation where my will and logic lost to my fear, preconception and human nature? I'm not everywhere all the time so I don't know? I'd like to think not. I think I do a great job of giving everyone I meet a clean slate. Yet, the "I don't see color" joke that Colbert's joke persona was known for was a joke BECAUSE it's B.S. The fact that the first thing we notice is race goes deep into our subconscious brain function. I think that isn't racist in itself but what you do with that information, how you behave with that immediate information. Unless you're not human you can't escape it. You're racist. Yet, that doesn't inherently make you a hateful person! We can choose not to treat someone in a poor manner based on old data but regardless of when you started it required effort. Not liking something doesn't keep you away from it. I'm on my phone so I don't know how else to say it with such limited time/vocabulary. We just won gold, btw! Good thing Japanese can't see color....../perfect timing to make some dumb joke lol

is that his friend and ex-UM verbal (Stanifer...Standiford....?) wound up at Ole Miss. Yet, he was all UM for a while. He even used to pay his way here and stay with Morris at his home. They were really tight, AFAIK. They'd room up at camps, etc. I can only imagine what they have him to pull such a 180. No offense to him but "moneyontablesleepingnexttoskank.jpg"
