Older fans to boo Rod?

Submitted by wildbackdunesman on
I have a coworker who is in his 50's who approached me today about coach Rodriguez. He wants Rod out ASAP. He believes wholeheartedly the Rosenberg article and really refused to listen to any of the critiques of the article. When I brought up the 'voluntary clause' when counting hours, he said no respectable coach would go above 20 hours - I told him I'd bet Bo did and the 2008 NCAA report where over 600 schools athletes were interviewed and the average week load was 44.8 hours for football players -- he refused to hear anything. The thing that got to me, is that he said that he and his friends that are older alumni are thinking about booing Rod Saturday. He seemed to indicate that it was a decent amount of people that he knew that were thinking of booing Rod all his age. The support for Rod seems much stronger with the younger generation. If you are going to the game and support Rod, please cheer him as loud as possible when he is announced to show that there is still strong support for the coach. Join in loudly if any pro-Rod chants starts.

I agree with your assessment, the youth movement is kind to Rich Rod. The older generation is more apt to dislike him. I work with a former UofM CB (to remain unnamed) who doesn't like RichRod very much. Hasn't since they hired him. He's not a big name player, but he played for the team under Bo (he's probably in his forties.) He also didn't like Les Miles too much as he played with Les while he was there as well - - apparently Les was kind of a nutcase. He was in the Kirk Ferentz camp as our next coach. I have never understood this train of thought.

... to witness grown men and women acting like spoiled children. Please tell him for me to: 1) Grow up 2) Sack up or 3) Give up his tickets to someone who wants them These kinds of idiots are exactly what allows the morons at the Freep and the screaming banshees in the MSM to survive. We're better off without them.

These are the same old fucks who say "No COLA adjustment for social security" and " we should bomb anyone who threatens us" and "don't legalize pot". Fuck them. They probably want us to dig up the corpse of Bo and speed up the cloning process VIA Kaminoan cloning processes from Star Wars Episode II. I hate these old conservative fucks who ask me at work "what is Rich Rod doing to our program?" Fuck you you old stupid brain atrophied fuck. And, we're taking the public option right out of your high tax bracket ass and your future social security payments bitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Die already you self-satisfied fucks!

No seriously though...this old bastard client of mine implies that us, the young generation of alums, is somehow remiss in allowing Rodriguez to be the coach of the team. They don't understand that times have changed and you can't just pull some Episcopalian out of the prior coach's staff and plug him in and presto!! Big Ten Champs. These old timers prattle on as if they were somehow a part of the success of the great teams of the past. That is why people sometimes say that Rich Rod's job is in jeopardy. At some point one of these old supposedly self-made alums who donate thousands a year to the university might just say enough, I want Kirk Ferentz.

Wait, so the old fucks can't stand up and cheer along with everyone else...but they have enough energy to boo their team? Start digging graves, I'll help load them in there. Worthless fans.

Not that I would ever boo Michigan, but I remember in the Wisconsin game last year when they went up 19-0 and the stadium was booing them into halftime. I thought it was stupid then, but it worked out.

This makes me very angry because people are so low. But there are people who have hated him since day 1 and actually think that half the stadium will boo. I am pretty sure if they do that, they might want some security.

Stand the entire game. Wave your towels. Be MUCH louder than the old folks who are booing. They'll be too tired and discouraged to even attempt to be heard anymore by the middle of the first quarter.

I'm 38 and, well, attacks on "older" fans are starting to hit a bit closer to home. Can we consider the possibility that his older gentleman's comments are due to a lack of information or simple stupidity? Many fans of all ages read the Freep article with initial concern and then realized, hey, this smells like bull shit! We then looked into it some more and quickly realized that, hey, this really is bull shit! However, some people off all ages, due to childhood injuries, lack of reading comprehension or blind faith in whatever the media tells them, bought this crap hook line and sinker. This is not necessarily due to age. Rather than anger and "dick slapping" in the stands, we should treat these poor souls with sympathy. And then turn and cheer even louder. Hopefully, through our example, they will learn the error of their ways or just shut-up.

None of the attacks aren't meant to be personal to anyone on this site. Most (definitely not all) on this site are too educated on the situations to do something like that. The problem is that it's the good ole boys typically want a RR out and another Bo-style, Michigan man brought in. Nothing personal.

I didn't take anything personal. I just didn't like all older fans being lumped with some fool who believed the Freep's "reporting." I was speaking with a friend of mind (who I went to Michigan with) and we both feel that this attack on our coach can only rally Michigan fans behind Rich Rod and the team even more. I do agree that a lot of people who can remember Bo would love him to come back. The problem is that it just isn't 1969 anymore and the man has left us. I also think that a lot of people have forgotten some aspects of Bo's style. He was tough, often yelled, and, good heavens, he probably even swore. He also demanded a new toughness of his team. Remind you of anyone . . .

Other things the old blue-hairs don't like: - standing - loud noises - the fact that our coach has a "Mexican" name - the forward pass - "the hip-hop music" - hair that goes below the top of your ear - piercings (you're goddammed right their wives have clip-ons, THEY'RE NOT WHORES) - The Idea of Free Agency - men who show any emotion besides The Thrill of Victory or The Agony of Defeat - The MTV - cars not made within 3 hours of The Big House - adaptation to anything besides moving from defending the Veer offense to the Wing-T offense and vice versa. - the reality of collegiate sports in the 3rd millenium.

on Snowden's list. But I do like Rich Rod, and I love Michigan! I'll be cheering from Section 40. Go Blue! Screw Drew Rosenputo... BTW--I'll be 45 on Sep 19.

What a shame! We are Michigan and our “Fans” are going to not show their full support in our program and our football team? That is a SHAME and those close minded people aren’t Michigan fan’s and certainly aren’t MICHIGAN MEN!!! GO BLUE!!!

he called me and left this on my machine. "What the crap is this, now freep is going after Rod about over practicing. Holy cow, I mean how can you write an article like that and truly think your any kind of decent journalist. The amount of crap in that, you know it just really pisses me off, call me and we can talk, love you dad". My dad graduated from Livonia Stevenson in 76'

Ha! So are the "pretend" fans the ones that buy season tickets for 20+ years? Or are they the ones that wanted to but never did attend UM? Or maybe transferred out and didn't get the degree? Or the ones that travel from out-of-state for a game and act as ambassadors for UM in their little scarlet-n-gray shittowns?
