I used to follow his articles religiously (candles, incense, etc), but then he started believing his own press releases, apparently. When he started writing articles promoting his view of tax reform, or whatever other blather creeped into his head, I knew he wasmaking a bad turn. I can't be arsed to read his current stuff. Real shame--the guy has talent but lost the integrity of his passion.

This is so wrong I hardly know where to start.

Albom is probably the best sportwriter Detroit has ever known.  This article is representative of his work, but certainly not uncommon.  He has talent, something Michigan needs more of, especially the University of Michigan, where I was fortunate enough to be able to go to school.

Do I like Albom's mainstream stuff as well as his sports stuff? No, but some of it is good. His writing is kind of formulaic, and it seems to work better with sports, which Albom either understands better than mainstream stuff, or he is just more passionate about.  Albom sold out for tons of $$$, but one can hardly blame him.

I continue to salute him, though I have not read anything he has written in a long time.  My loss, and this article reminded me why.

As for Harbaugh, we can all pray.

Thank God that pizza boy is finally gone. He would have done better at Whittier than Michigan---a better fit.  New AD, new coach---let's hope we get some competence this time around. We are due.

I so want him to come here as Harbaugh was the QB when I became a fan many moons ago. The fact is, however, nobody knows what he will do or what is in his head right now.  All we can do is offer him the job.  I think we need to hope for the best and understand that it is more likely than not that he will not end up here.

You're correct we have a long way to go before we can even start getting excited about this possibility coming true. It may not happen. The odds may be against it happening. However, the big obstacles have been cleared away now. Brandon is gone, the honemoon in the Bay is gone and the current coach is most likely gone. Considering all that and how Jim feels about Bo and that UM is the one place in the world where Bo still "lives" on may be compelling enough for him to come.

will influence whether he takes the Michigan job..IMO

1) Money of course.  If Michigan can offer him as much (or more) as an NFL team would

2) Total Control of a program.  Which he wont ahve in the NFL.

3) If he can have a good recruiting Staff as Im not sure how much he enjoys recruiting.

4) Thwe Wife Factor.  Does she want him to relocate to Ann Arbor

That was a nice read indeed. Actually, I think my old neighbor in Northville might even have a copy of this stored somewhere since he kept a lot of Bo-related columns and virtually anything that even mentioned the Rose Bowl. Kind of drawn to this passage here:

"You know, he reams you out, but sometimes lately when it's happened, I'm thinking, 'God, this is what it's all about. Me and Bo, we're fighting together, we're both on the same sideline, we both want the same thing.

I sometimes wonder if Bo's stylings would fly today, but then you look at some of the people he's coached - like Jim Harbaugh - and what they've gone on to do and think, "The message clearly got across..."

He gets his name in one police report and he's thrown off the team?

Fast forward to 2014, circa Tallahassee.  "You got your name in your 86th police report?  Damned it Jameis, if you end up in 100, I might have to suspend you for, what, a couple plays, you need to really clean up your act, and by that I mean, stop gettin' caught while you're doin' your thang."

to become a legendary college football coach. The question is whether he cares about that as much as he cares about winning a Super Bowl.

It is Jim's destiny to come back to AA and lead Michigan into it's next era of greatness, just like Bo did. It's all lining up as it should. Hoke = Bump -- well like but not getting it done, new AD = Canham, and Harbaugh is the new Bo. I cannot imagine Jim watching Michigan suffer, being one of the few people who could actually make the suffering stop, and NOT do anything about it. Bo HAS to be coming to Jim in his dreams and telling him to cement his legacy at Michigan forever. Yost, Fritz, Benny, Bo and Jim ... It's too perfect to not happen.

Harbaugh went through in college and then the pros, nearly leading his last team to a Super Bowl against San Francisco, the team he coaches now, and the fact that he already has coached at Stanford in Palo Alto, where he went to high school, leaves him only one last stop on his personal history tour through football: a return to Ann Arbor and Michigan. Looking at how he was coached and motivated by Schembechler, you understand why if he approached his guys today with anything resembling what Schembechler put him through, this would wear thin with those guys in the lockerroom. But all that hard case stuff, all that you're not good enough to start here, that stuff worked with him. And if you read interviews with Harbaugh, he is still kind of a guy who resonates with a direct, gruff approach. This guy is smart, resilient, competitive to the last degree and hates to lose and is confident he will find any way to win. What I loved about Bo was he believed in players and putting them in the best position to win, not the best system of his choosing, but what worked best for his guys. Concentrate on the fundamentals, know your assignments, be on time, be a great teammate, and play hard. Do that, and you will be a winner no matter what. Harbaugh believes all that, and his teams plays that way. There is one interesting comment Bo made about Harbaugh's recruitment to Michigan, and knowing him implicitly because of his dad's connection to the program. And that was he was recruited on Michigan's time not on his. That won't be the case now. Harbaugh will determine his recuiting timeline and whether Michigan gets the answer so many of its fans desperately want him to provide.

Pat Narduzzi. I want Jim too but come on guys it just isn' happening. If he won the SB I would be more confident, but Jim has unfinished business in the NFL. He just isn't wired in a way to walk away from the NFL without winning it all.

a different opinion then you gets labled a troll?? Ummmm ok. Hate to break the news to you, but the majority of people think the same way about Jim to Michigan,

I suppose you took a poll to know what the majority of the fans want or think about this issue. Was it a phone poll, or did you go knocking on doors, or perhaps it was an e-mail poll ? What is your margin of error? How large was your sample size? I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but if you have spent any time on here, you would know that the overwhelming majority of the posters want Harbaugh as the next coach.

This is a blog, and differing opinions are welcome, but you came across as more of a troll than a reputable poster.

I have spent enough time on this website to know that the majority of guys on it are pretty cool. I have always hesitated to post much, however; because in doing so I knew it would only be a matter of time before I would have to interact with some weirdo like yourself that takes the internet way too serious. As Bo said to Harbaugh - and can be applied to your type "why aren't you doing something productive?" ( I know at this point you want to write back about your great job and social life, but please don't, nobody cares.) Regarding the rest of your post, there are maybe 2 people in this world that really know what JH is thinking at this point, everybody is going off pure speculation and opinion. My opinion is based off of not really hearing or reading much from non-Michigan homers claiming we have a real shot at landing Harbaugh (this is the part where you spend the next 2 hours posting links proving me wrong, come on I know you want to do it). I did like your take on the "overwhelming majority of posters wanting Harbaugh as the next coach." Are you meaning to tell me that Michigan fans on a Michigan Football blog site want the best hire and fit for the program? That right there is some great insight on your part, and really sets you above the rest as a reputable poster. Actually that insight was so stunning perhaps a job at SI is in your future????

chapters clumped together (because it seems like I read them all on the same flight) that tell stories about Jim Harbaugh, Brad Bates and Jim Hackett. He even closed the chapter mostly dedicated to Bates and his walk-on work ethic with (paraphrasing) "Brad is a great athletic director at Miami these days. I wouldn't be surprised if he was Michigan's AD some day."

The irony of that game--a 15-22 loss to Arizona State--is that it was none other than John Cooper coaching the Sun Devils.  He would later become my favorite Ohio State coach in history.

Cooper will be remembered for his 3-8 bowl record and his 2–10–1 record against rival Michigan. His most crippling losses to the Wolverines came in 1993, 1995, and 1996; each season, Ohio State entered the Michigan game undefeated and ranked in the top five, but came away with a gut-wrenching loss. In 1993 Ohio State was ranked #5 and heavily favored, only to be shut out by the Wolverines 28-0 and denied its first trip to Pasadena in nine years. In 1995 Ohio State lost a #2 ranking, the Big Ten title, and another shot at the Rose Bowl by losing to the Wolverines, 31–23, in Ann Arbor. In 1996, the Buckeyes were again ranked #2 and had already secured a Rose Bowl berth when they faced Michigan. The Buckeyes smelled victory after shutting out the Wolverines in the first half, but Michigan rallied in the second half to upset the Buckeyes yet again, 13-9, costing them a chance at the national championship. Ohio State would go on to win the 1997 Rose Bowl against Arizona State and finish the season ranked #2. With this victory, Cooper became the first coach to win the Rose Bowl with a Pac-10 and a Big Ten team. In 1997 Ohio State smelled revenge as it was Michigan who entered the game undefeated and Ohio State with the chance to play spoiler. However, the Wolverines again defeated the Buckeyes, 20-14. To add insult to injury, Michigan's win was sparked by the spectacular performance of Ohio native and 1997 Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, who made big plays on offense, defense, and special teams. Cooper's Buckeyes were expected to have a strong season in 1999, but slumped to 6-6--their first non-winning record since Cooper's first year. They rebounded to 8-4 a year later, but a 38-26 flogging by Michigan cost Cooper his job at the end of the season.

if its true Brandon didn't want Harbaugh then he is lucky he was only fired for incompetency and not hung for treason.

The MgoZeitgest surrounding Harbaugh is real. It wasn't like this last time.
