Well, I guess Chris Bryant, step on down. I know we're in the hunt for Hobbi, but I doubt he'll leave the Pac-10 area. Still need another OG; if Zettel stays at DE, I don't know who else we'll get at OG. Damn the last 2 seasons are really killing us on the recruiting trail.

This just ruined my day sorry to say. I thought we were looking real good for him. Not only do we need OL, this hurts us for the Schutt kid Tom just talked about. Not going to be too productive for the rest of the day unless I see a Hello post.

I hate this negative recruiting crap. Recruits should realize that if coachs are negative recruiting, then its only a matter of time before they talk negative about the kids. Ahh, I hate Mondays.

I agree. Anytime we lose a recruit it's "OMG negative recruiting." It's like the NCAA video games-you should compare yourself to another school a kid likes if you're better in that area. Saying to a kid, "Hey, the situation at UM isn't as stable as it is here, or Hey, we have sent more (insert position here) to the NFL than RR has, etc." isn't necessarily negative. You don't think RR tells kids "We have more tradition, more wins, more alumni in the pros than school A and schol B"? It's not necessarily saying anything negative about the other school.

doubt it, iowa was going to be a big player with him from the beginning, they have a strong connection to his high school, it shouldn't be a big surprise
Get out of here Irish with that logic nonsense... Michigan didn't get him because we didn't want him or because of negative recruiting. Not because of Iowa being a decent place for a kid to go to school or because of the possible risk of RR getting fired in the middle of a recruit's college career. Nope.. it's definitely negative recruiting.
You forgot to mention how Ferentz and Iowa are a well oiled machine that puts OL into the NFL with a lot of success. I can see how that would appeal to OL recruits.

With his mom loving Michigan and his great visit, I thought for sure he would be in the maize and blue.
I'm guessing Iowa is a shorter drive for his family?

It is possible that he just liked Iowa a little bit more than he liked Michigan. Whether it was that, or believing negative recruiting BS, or wanting to join a program that is successful right now, he just wasn't meant to be a Wolverine. It's not for everybody.
Why didn;t he just come out and say he is choosing Iowa because they have had more success the past couple years. When he says he likes the complete package of Iowa compared to U of M, that is a joke. The only category that Iowa leads MICh on right now is wins! Let's see, Mich has better academics, better facilities, bigger stadium, winningest program...and Iowa has had a better record the last two years. Doesn't make sense
An OL recruit wanting to go to a school whose head coach has about 15 years of experience coaching the offensive line in the NFL, plus having 9 OL from Iowa on an NFL roster, makes sense to me.
as i am sure that goes into the thinking of lots of kids.
I have a hard time getting too upset when we dont land a kid. Its such a crap-shoot anyways as to who actually pans out.
We get our share of very good players and we will get more as the team starts to turn the corner. I fully believe we have seen the last of the sub .500 seasons for a good long while.

I can't wait until things start to click for this team and all of the recruits that went elsewhere start kicking themselves for their lack of faith in Michigan.
I don't blame teenage kids for falling for the negative recruiting, but that doesn't change the fact that I want them to suffer serious buyer's remorse every time that they have to suit up against Michigan.

Too bad, but if we land Bryant and Zettel we're doing fine on the interior OL. OT worries me more. If Posada goes to USF, we might be in some trouble unless we pick up a sleeper or someone else surprises us by being able to play that position.

TomVH OL Tony Posada announces on Wednesday. I've been told by two sources that it should be Michigan, but I just have a weird feeling about it.
Makes one wonder if Walsh and Posada announcements are related.

You might want to check into Iowa as an academic institution. They're not Michigan, but they are pretty solid. I hate Iowa as much as anyone but facts are facts.
I also will love to watch Iowa go 7-5 this year. The last time they had huge expectations they completely blew. I could really see them being like and 07 Michigan type team even without injuries. They snuck by a lot of games last year and those teams will get better. I just do not see a lot of room for improvement from them. There are no big time players that will make an immediate impact and Ricky Stanzi is still their quarterback.

That would be like having an offer from Harvard and instead going to BC. If academics aren't the priority don't say it. Do these kids really expect us to believe them
The guy was really excited when he got the offer, his mother is a huge U of M fan, and the visit went spectacular...and he committs to Iowa? This is so random.
It is disappointing that he did not choose Michigan, but Iowa is a really good place to be a lineman. Kirk Ferentz is one of the most respected line coaches in the country.
Hopefully, we can close on a couple of a good OL prospects to finish out the class.
A bit surprised by this one.. damn. The Hawks are building a nice class.
It is beginning to look like interviewing Ferentz was warranted after Carr left, and there were alot of Ferentz detractors.. And it also appears that most of the types of players we'd have gotten had Carr stayed, are mostly going to Iowa.

Hannibal...... one would normally agree with your statement based on Iowa's history. But I'm not so sure. One thing that seems to stand out is how many players Ferentz has been sending to the NFL recently. This isn't per se, evidence he'll continue doing well, but the fact is quite an outlier, and remarkable.
1-10 first year, 3-9 second, 7-5 third. He then had three good years, and back to 7-5, 6-7, 6-6. His last 2 have been good. Up and down though, yo?

If he had chosen us, I would have called him anything he wanted. Can't blame him for choosing Iowa, but I thought we had this guy in the bag. Good luck to him and maybe he will change his mind after the season starts.

Still a long way til Signing Day and this staff has pulled at least one kid away from another school each year. If UM isn't hit too hard by the NCAA and has a decent season (read 8-4 or better), I don't think it is out of the question that Walsh might end up a Woverine when all is said and done.
Keeping my fingers crossed on this kid...
I thought we had a pretty good shot with that kid
...or something like that...I am certain that some quality players will emerge for the staff to recruit and/or take from other programs.
