OK State vs. Kansas - full game

Submitted by freejs on

Best way to know an opponent is to actually watch them play.

I'm going to sit down with this tomorrow if I can steal an hour plus.

They take Kansas to the end in this one, so this video should show a lot of what they got.

oSu suddenly scares me a lot more after finding out that they hired that dude from SF Austin as their coach.

I hate our draw, I fucking hate it.

We should be the 6 getting ready to play Rhode Island with Oregon/Iona in the next round and L'ville in the 3rd round.

I will definitely take our draw.

  • We should be able to beat Ok. State.
  • Beating Louisville is slaying the dragon for us . . . thinking back to 2012.
  • Oregon is hurting with injury. Definitely beatable.
  • And I definitely think Kansas is the weakest number 1 in the tournament, giving Michigan the best chance to get to the Final 4.
  • Regarding the Final 4, I would love to beat Duke.
  • And I would also love a rematch against UCLA, given our history in 2nd games.

Is it likely? No. But if Michigan were to win the National Championship this year, it would be a huge affirmation of Beilein and his staff. It would make this a team of destiny, a Cinderella team like UConn or NCS. And it would help with recruiting . . . maybe Bamba reconsiders, and comes to Michigan! Even if not, it opens the door to better recruits in 2018 and 2019.

But we just scored 71 on a fundamentally sound defense. Okie doesn't play a lick of it. While they score in bunches, their piss poor D will allow us to score more.

I don;t think Michigan will play the quick up and down game that was played by Kanas and OSU in that video. It is to Michigans advantage to manage the clock and keep them from the qiuck buckets.

I am interested to see if they play any of that zone against michigan. Robinson should eat that up.

disinterested in playing defense. Our offensive scheme with multiple options will drive them crazy after two or three passes and we will end up with wide open looks.  If we shoot 35%+ from behind the arc and 50%+ from inside the ar, we should win going away. M87 - OSU73

If Okie St. can get into the lane at will like Minnesota did but also hit outside shots, UM may be in trouble. It'll be up to the D to not let them do both. I expect the offense to be able to score enough to get a W.

but from what I've seen

1. According to Lunardi, they're solidly underseeded, Lundardi had them a 6, at lowest a 7, heading into a game they weren't expected to win vs. Iowa St. in the conf. tournament. So, thanks, Hollis.

With that said

2. They don't look extraordinary athletic. Not bad athletes, just not relentless athletes, which is kind of our worst form of kryptonite (thanks for the potential Louisville matchup, should we get by this one). I'm not seeing a ton of running it to the rim, they do space well, not a series of one on one matchup nightmares, though, which is nice.

3. They don't seem to crash the offensive glass. That may just be the KU game, where they were extra careful about floor balance because of KU's effectiveness on the break. Hope this remains the standard for them, though.

4. Have to guard their stretch 4.

5. We need to stay out of foul trouble - Walton, Wagner, Wilson - I think I like the way they match up with their counterparts, so we just need to keep them on the floor. DJ needs to not have a contemplating the meaning of life game, to get his belief going early, and he could be a problem for them, at both ends.

6. If Mo and DJ can knock down some early 3's, and if they play their starting 5, he is going to have a *nightmare* of it. Not well suited to what we have at the 5 and not really suited to punishing in return on the offensive end.

7. They have a number of good three point shooters, find them on the perimeter. Can't have breakdown after breakdown of the D. Need to be generally on point with only a mishap here and there.

8. They are not great in transition D. Attack with authority.

9. We run it right, and Beilein's offense will be an issue for them. They don't seem to guard the perimeter particularly well to begin with, here comes the hardest offensive system to match up with in a Rd 1 game. Their coach probably did a miniscout of us as SFA was in our pod, but that was a long year ago and this is a lot to tangle with.

9. Forte is a threat to pull from anywhere. Keep a hand up with him.

10. Evans really can pass the ball up the court in a hurry - guys need to get back.

11. Evans can make exaclty the kind of passes Walton excels at, to, say a big man steaming down the lane - he's not the most extraordinary athlete I've seen, but he's a true PG.

On the whole, based on seeing part of just one game, this game looks pretty winnable. Our athletes are more athletic than theirs, imo.

If we can play with poise, execute on the break, and play the game with the mental tenacity we've shown for months now, I think we can do this.

Also, they score a lot, but they don't play at some breakneck speed. I think that's also good for us.
