Ohio vs. Michigan State

Submitted by StephenRKass on

During our bye week/wife week, Ohio is playing against Michigan State. These are our two most important opponents and rivals. I still feel numb after the tire fire in South Bend, and haven't posted in days. What can you say?

However, life goes on, so here are three simple questions:

  1. Who do you want to win:  Ohio or Michigan State?
  2. Who do you think will actually win:  Ohio or Michigan State?
  3. Who winning benefits Michigan the most: Ohio or MSU?

It is harder for me to answer these questions than usual. I have a certain malaise such that I really don't care right now. More than that, there are many and varied reasons I dislike both of them, and don't care for either to win. The bye week is good for me personally, because I don't want to watch any college football this weekend.

The answer to the questions is the same for me:  I want Ohio to win, think they will win, and if they win, it benefits Michigan because Michigan State has a loss against them, affecting who wins our division. I don't think Maxwell will perform any better against Ohio's defense than he did against ND, and I think Braxton Miller may just be good enough to score against Michigan State's defense. I do believe the matchup between Michigan State's defense and Ohio's offense (especially Braxton) is the key to the game.

I live in Ohio, so I always root for them to lose, becasue its unbearable around here when they are winning games.  That being said, with thier unabillity to play in the post season, I secretly hope they go 11-1 (loss to UM) just to piss all the slappies off and make this bowl banishment mean something.  It would feel more satisfying for them to miss a major bowl game rather than a gator bowl or some .com bowl

I would like for MSU to lose more than I would like for OHIO to lose. I want neither to win. One of these teams losing will please me. One of these teams winning will not.

Does that make sense?

1. Ohio - Reason - An MSU loss helps Michigan win the Legends.

2. MSU - Reason - After a loss and a disappointing win, MSU is due for a big win. OSU has been very fortunate/lucky the last couple weeks. They are due to lose one.

3. See # 1

If we're good enough, we'll win our devision regardless of a Sparty win or loss. I want to see Ohio lose, plain and simple. Sparty has already been exposed and Ohio thinks they're good after four easy home games. It will be much more fun to watch Urban take his first loss than to have better chance at our division, which won't matter if we handle business down the road. I want Sparty to beat Ohio, but I don't think they will. They looked very, very bad against EMU.

I want MSU to lose, because I root for Michigan to win the conference.  As for hoping a rival does not lose when they aren't playing another rival, it all depends on whether we need the league to look good for national title purposes or BCS at-large purposes.  If we need the league to look good, I'll swallow my disgust (temporarily); if not, screw 'em.

This does not mean I root for Ohio to win.

As painful as it is u need Ohio to win. They r not in our division and so it doesn't matter what they do plus they on probation MSU is in our division so every loss they get now helps Michigan get to the BIG championship game faster I know we have to play them and this might sound desperate but after how this season started the only thing dat will make it better is a BIG championship. Also root for wiscy over the huskers

  1. I want Ohio to win. Because of 3.
  2. I think Ohio will win. I still don't know if they're any good, but I'm 90% confident that Sparty isn't.
  3. Ohio winning benefits us. We want to win the Legends division. Doing so is almost a guaranteed spot in the Rose Bowl.

that all the pipes to all restrooms in Spartan Stadium fail and raw organic comes up through the playing surface and the game goes into 12 overtimes. Whatever team leads after that point wins...

It doesnt matter because who you root for affects nothing about the game. But ohio winning helps Michigan. An MSU loss along with another to Michigan and they're no longer a factor as far as we are concerned.

Think MSU

Benefit most MSU but it might not even matter. Michigan needs to come together as a team, offense, or nothing matters. This team should be way ahead of where it is right now. This coaching staff and team has let me down more this year than in the last 24 years of being an M fan.

Hate 'em both.  Root for neither.  Don't care who wins.

We play both of them.  We need to take care of business and beat them both.  I understand the logic in pulling for an OSU win, but I'd prefer that we not need their help.

While technically it'd be better if MSU, I won't root for Ohio unless it directly leads to a B1G title (like basketball last year). If we still control our own destiny, then why does it matter if it "improves our odds." Just win the games in front of us and it won't matter.

I hope their stadium burns to the ground after the score is 3-0 Sparty. I hope nobody dies or gets hurt. I hope ohio has a fire on their bus, and the replacement bus as well. I know couches will catch fire regardless. Thank you fire god.

I spent the majority of my life not really caring about MSU too much. In a strange twist of events I have found myself living in Lansing and spending my work weeks close enough to EL. This being said sparty talk is in my ear all the time along with a U of M hate obsession (I do have 4 or so other Wolverines working there so it's not all bad). I can't punch people at work so I just hope that OSU takes it to them convincingly Saturday instead for the sake of Roses. Especially since they beat a hobbled Joe Bauserman led team early last year. I work with one buckeye fan and he is scared to tell people his allegiance. He also happens to be the only guy who actually knows anything about football and doesn't sprout a raging boner for a cartoon gladiator every Saturday.

Rooting for Ohio. Better  for our title hopes, but I'd do it anyway. Can't work up quite as much vitrol for Ohio with Tressel gone and the streak broken. Dantonio is classless and I haven't forgotten how dirty they played us last  year. I depise Sparty  and am so weary of the obcession and jealousy. And four straight doesn't help.
