Ohio State Week TBT: 32 Years Ago, Wojo Arrested in Columbus

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

This story is well-known, but if you haven't heard it yet, it's always good to relive this one during Ohio State week. As the sports editor of the Michigan Daily back in 1982, when he was down there covering the game, Bob "Wojo" Wojnowski was arrested during an incident on High Street in Columbus. The Daily photographer arrested along with him was Brian Masck, famous for taking the Heisman-pose photo of Desmond, and then suing him over it.

Read MVictors' remembrance of the High Street incident, and let this be a lesson to anyone traveling to Columbus this weekend (not that anyone is) - they're not normal down there.

That is a great and timely share.  Thank you for posting.  I have a newfound respect for Wojo except for the part where he didn't continually dunk Drew Sharp's head down the toilet when they were both at the Daily

But that isn't the worst of it because, you realize, [the police] will do it again. And what's to stop them? They got away with it this time and they will get away with it next time. Victims have no viable recourse against such actions.

It's a goddamn crime you know.

Someone should call the police.

for 2006.  After the game, on the way toward the car, a classy Buckeye stares me down and shouts, "Who wants to fight?"  Sad part is, most people had been actually respectful until then.  It seemed they were as shaken up by Bo's passing as we were.

Always be wary in Columbus.

I think this is more of a Big city police officer thing than a Columbus thing. I'm sure there are big cities with better training and fewer of these issues, but I doubt it only happens in Columbus.
