Ohio State to hire Schiano

Submitted by DCGrad on

According to Schefter, Schiano will be the associate head coach and DC.

Former Bucs HC Greg Schiano expected to accept Assoc HC/DC at Ohio State, per source; will replace former OSU DC Chris Ash, new Rutgers HC.

He has been out of football for 2 years, and he has not been a DC since 2000. He actually has only been a DC for 2 years total in his career (1999-2000). He has a great reputation for defense and coaching & turned Rutgers into a winner after the Big East got raided by the ACC (and I think that will help them in recruiting), but no one has offered him a HC job for 3 straight offseasons now. It's possible he has been waiting for the right offer and finally gave up on waiting. He was still getting paid by the Bucs.

Clearly, he does not plan to be a DC for a while and would look at this as a demotion.  How is he going to get along with other coaches now that he is associate head coach as well as DC?  I heard on a Boston station that Bill Bilichick recommended him to Urban

It would take a lot of evidence/convincing for me to believe that Urban Meyer has a libido.

I'm not going to take the time to analyze my thoughts on this one. I know he has reproduced with good results etc., but I'm not buying the idea that he enjoyed it.

You're gay.  It's 2015, nobody cares, and it's totally cool.  I can also acknowledge when a guy is good looking, but the adjectives and in-depth analysis you have offered suggest you could live a much happier life if you come out of the closet.

That being said, no, he looks ape-ish

Schiano was only a DC for 2 years at Miami (FL) with some of the most talented teams Miami has had. It's not like Schiano has a long track record as a DC. I think it is a good hire, but I don't get how Schiano developed this reputation as some kind of defensive whiz. Maybe it's because he's friends with Belichick from NJ. But not good enough as a coach for Belichick to offer him a job.

This. He coached a butt ton (technical term) of talent at Miami for two years and then went to Rutgers where he finished ranked once and with a winning conference record 4 times in 11 years.  He may be a good DC, we don't know.  Just not a ton of evidence that says he definitely will be or that he's been a good DC in the past.
