so much for that
Ohio State Game Snowflakes Thread
What a great win. Crisler was awesome tonight. Like everyone else, I'm concerned about the defense going forward, especially weakside rotation and on-the-ball defense. We aren't going to shoot 58% from 3 many times. It seemed like every time OSU took the ball to the basket, someone either failed to rotate or was forced to rotate so much that guys were wide opens for threes. I really hope this is just a function of Morgan being out.
On a seperate note, are we done with Vitale for a while? An entire game of slobbering over Craft, and his usual Indiana mention and the fact that the Victors is the second best fight song to Notre Dame's was more than I could take. I know his heart is in the right place but just....shut up!
Please don't tell me he's doing our game at Breslin next week.
Go Blue! Always!
He will be calling the MSU game next week.
If an OSU fan divorces his wife are they still brother and sister?
...and I didn't even lace up. What a game. I hate Ohio, but have a ton of respect for Craft...he plays with a lot of grit!
He's a solid player...but Burke is better. Michigan is better. Michigan wins. GO BLUE!

No one will convince me that was a foul on the last play the way the game had been called up to that point. If you think it was a foul you our just trying to not be a homer.
I say let Michigan, Ohio, IU and MSU play a round robin then a best of 7 Final Four tournament.
I truly think the B1G is dominating basketball like the SEC is dominating football right now.
I just hope you guys are enjoying this. We have something to be proud of.
I've seen the B1G, Big East and ACC live this year...we're on another level. It's not even close. The B1G this year is as good as the best Big East or ACC years of the past 15 years.
Enjoy it everyone, seriously. We have something to brag about and feel proud of.
If we don't kill ourselves before the tournament, I would've be surprised if we have 5 teams in the Elite Eight. Wisconsin and Minnesota are going to get to March like "WTF? This is easy."
Until they play us.

This conference deserves 2 1's and 2 2's. Top 8 seeds: Michigan, Indiana, Kansas, Miami, Duke, OSU, MSU, Syracuse/Louisville.
(I know Florida will be in there, but they have no good wins and just got blown out at a mediocre Arkansas).
He had 4 steals, 1 foul, and 1 block. Craft had 3 steals, 2 fouls, and 0 blocks. Oh, and McGary is an actual competent offensive player who doesn't need an extra 2 seconds on the shot clock to score.
He's going to get overshadowed by Craft on the defensive end, but Burke played his ass off defensively.
That strip after his turnover was HUGE. The block was HUGE.
Burke never gave up all night and played better defensively tonight than in any other phase.

Craft is the real deal on D. No need to dis him. I'm glad we won and would be happy not to see him again.
M'Dog
the real deal in the fact he gets away with hand checking alot. His reputation allows for it
It would be nice if Novak could come back too, for that matter. It was tough watching OSU be grittier than Michigan for long stretches tonight. Michigan is going to have to toughen up very soon.

a heart attack or stroke so I've got that going for me.
Great to watch to teams compete against each other cleanly.
If there is anyone with a modicum of respect for their opponents congratulations on the win and a great game.
- I don't get why everyone one complains about the ref. OSU got 5 points, Michigan didn't get call for the foul on craft, OSU/Michigan didn't get this call. Who cares play through it. The officials in the B1G have been bad this entire year.
- The game changer was Hardaway shooting 6-9 from the three point line. For a team that plays good 3 point defense, we sure did lay an egg in the second half.
- I don't think I've ever seen Michigan set ball screens that hard to free up players to shoot the three. It made it hard to go over the screen since going under results in a open shot for 2 seconds. Trey burke and Hardaway hit three of these when the defender went under the screen.
- I didn't expect for the game to be that high scoring or go into OT but it was great defense on OSU end.
- If the basketball game was this good can't wait until the football game.
Couldn't get the sweep, but can't be disappointed with a split! Good game!
Hello Charles Woodson, now give me the ball on offense. - Brent Musburger
I thought OSU was very mentally tough tonight. And Craft is a lion.

Pretty good points and I concur with about everything. I think you hit on something some of us have noticed, maybe more so in earlier weeks, but the notion about our screens is something of interest. They were solid tonight. They needed to be, too.
Well...
TH jr. was tremendous.
Trey had an outstanding individual effort.
Mitch played today.
("Was that a foul on Craft on the last play?") That is a stupid question.

Our defensive rotation needs to improve....we gave up way too many dunks and offensive rebounds because of it
On dead ball situations...
We should've went with Horford for GRIII and LeVert for Stauskas on defense.
They got so many second chance looks and much was because we just didn't have the right guys in.
We especially should've made the move because we had 2 timeouts late in the game to bring the ball up, call TO and get Stauskas and GRIII back in the game.
In OT we started with both Horford and McGary and did they even score in the first 3 minutes of OT?
GRIII has seemed exhausted for a couple of games, and LeVert is one of the better defenders on the entire team. Would've loved to see some offense/defense subs on dead balls. You can't afford to take those guys out if it's not a dead ball situation.
If we do this, I don't think we even get to OT. I think we win in regulation.
But, who cares, we won. Just hope we get it corrected moving forward because it's not going to get easier.

My throat hurts from yelling so much. Great game though.
Can anyone provide a screen shot of the Craft 3 after the shot clock expired?
I was able to take a screenshot of the shot. It is a little blurry, but is 1600x900 and it clearly shows the ball in his hands with the 0 on the shot clock.
I have it in PNG and JPEG form but am unable to find a way to post it on this site, if you wish for me to email it to you...or if you can assist me in posting it. I would be happy to do either.
You can't see it because I screwed up SO BAD the edit button is gone and I can't edit it to tell everyone it is a bad link and for the mods to delete it...
I took a screen shot off of a video posted from another website, and it won't let me load it. I understand giving the website I took the screenshot from credit, but I can't figure out the process to load the picture.
Espn really should have called out the blatant shot clock violation. And craft doesn't get that call. Jordan... Ehhhh, Maybe. Great game. Hardaway Jr player of the week. McGary had an outstanding showing.
Finally, does anyone doubt we need Jordan Morgan out there?? Get well soon!!
Touchdown Michigan!
The issue I have is that ESPN showed the replay and put the #SCTOP10 in the left hand corner when Craft took the shot. The announcers then said it was either a top 10 shot or a missed call.
Nothing was said after the shot when it was showed. ESPN never mentioned it during the whole sportscenter show and it was buried.
I'm sorry, but man up and call it one way or the other. Don't put your head between your legs and look...well...I won't say.
Totally agree the top ten nominee was complete bull shit. That Ohio fans are crying foul irks me. I honestly wouldn't if the roles were reversed (specifically given the poor officiating in favor of Ohio). You can't call that unless it's obvious.
Touchdown Michigan!
I played basketball and this is me being SUPER nitpicky.
If Ohio fans give you crap for the "no foul" Craft got at the end of the game. Tell them to re watch the shot. We (I'm not sure if it was hardaway, or GR3 or whoever who fouled) reached ACROSS Craft and touched his left hand. Let me repeat...the only thing he touched was his left hand.
Craft is a right handed shooter, the left hand is a guide hand, the right hand is the push/shooting hand. We had extremely minimal effect on Craft shooting that last shot.
We basically touched his non shooting hand and Craft missed. End of game, end of discussion.
If Ohio wants to be upset about a no call, tell them to be upset about Craft not going strong to the finish. Craft was shooting for the foul call, not shooting for a win.
There is many other issues I had with this game on both sides, but I will end it here with just this one call. Go blue, good win.
If you'd told me at the start of overtime that Michigan would score only one field goal for the rest of the game, I'm not sure I could've watched. Credit Michigan for finding that extra gear in OT and clamping down on OSU. Go Blue!

Especially at the end of the game. And I mean in a more than "we're opposing point guards" kind of way. Whenever they play, it's as if Burke is trying to shove it in Matta's face that he should have recruited him, and Kraft is trying to prove that Ohio doesn't need Burke.
The shot at the end of regulation was a waste. You're telling me the play they drew up was to have Burke shoot a fadeaway three after a defensive switch over a guy 6 inches taller than him? It was a similar deal with the last Ohio game too... Burke trying to put the game in his hands and his hands alone by just dribbling around until there's a second left and throwing up a three. Completely telegraphed too, since he's not even looking for the pass - just sizing the defender up.
Obviously Burke is an unbelievable player but with the game on the line I'd just really like us to take a higher percentage shot...
As for Hardaway... dude was out of his mind for a while there. I was at the game and we all kept going nuts, thinking, "there's no way he hits this one too," and then he does...
"That's right. It's an off-tackle play. It's coming right over you. And there's not a thing you can do about it."
I agree with you for the most part. Unfortunately I think Craft gets the better end of the deal out of it.
I don't know what it is...but man, Craft really is Burke's cryptonyte.
However, I'm SUPER happy that Burke had some KEY DEFENSIVE PLAYS against Craft. Holy smokes.
The Craft steal to the basket followed by the Burke stop was IMO true Ohio vs Mich manball. Defense all the way back and forth. I was actually proud of both players...and that is hard for me to say as a die hard Mich fan.
Burke having key defensive plays at the end vs Craft was what made it an even match in my opinion. Burke had some nice 3's and a few offenseive plays, but for the most part Craft shut him down.
In the end, Burke had the poise to stop Craft's breakaway after the steal, and the athleticism to block Craft's shot at the end.
Just wow....what a game!
Morgan/McGary 100x better rotation than Horford/McGary. Horford's lack of lateral quickness KILLS the defense, especially on picks at the top of the key. It usually results in an open shot AND a mismatch for the opponent on the offensive rebound. I'm sure Jon isn't 100%, so its not all on him. Morgan is just a very good defender with good lateral quickness & recovery for a 5. McGary is becoming great at defense ... tons of deflections & steals. His only problem is helping too much and giving up easy boards and put backs (Zeller, ugh).
I think it was a foul at the end of the game. But I think the refs blew so many calls and gave so many free points to OSU all night that for OSU fans to complain about it is ridiculous. Besides the 3-pointer that Craft didn't even START to shoot until after the shot clock went off and the obvious goal-tend, they had another 3-pointer with about 4 minutes left that came immedately after an OBVIOUS travel when the Buckeye balllcarrier took two running steps before dribbling. Everyone in Chrisler saw it except for the 3 officials. I'm not even counting the phantom foul on Burke because maybe THJ hit Thomas on the elbow. MAYBE.
Was there contact on Craft? Yeah. Enough to get a foul call? Sure. Enough for a no-doublt call? No way. Enough to say the officials blew the game for you? Nope, not when they had already gifted you 5-8 points on the road. When you are playing on the road and already playing with house money from the refs, you can't complain when you don't get that call.
A win against Wisconsin puts us in the driver seat for #1 again if Indiana losses to Ohio State and also puts us back in control of our own destiny to win an out right Big Ten Championship. Well Im not routing for either team. Either way Michigan wins after that game, Ohio State riding a two game losing streak or were ranked #1 again.

Borrowed Stauskas's mojo tonight. That was an incredible shooting clinic. THJ is not just a shooter too.
