Ohio RB LJ Scott to MSU
I hope we can recover, and it seems we have, not going after him like we did Harris at first.
I know looking at HS highlights is really subjective and can be misleading (McGuffie, cough cough), but from what I've seen Harris looks faster, bigger, and more elusive than Webber. What are you basing your opinion on?
Both Weber and Harris have the skills to be good collegiate backs. IMO, neither will be outstanding. If I had to pick between
the two I would probably give Harris the edge but only because I feel that Weber along with some other Cass kids are a product of a solid 'team'. I won't be angry of we lose Harris. It's is also comforting knowing Green, Smith, and Issac make our depth look pretty solid for the next several seasons. If we miss on Harris then I think you end up with Weber who is not far behind Harris. Harris would be icing on the cake at this point in terms of RB depth.
If we still can't run the ball by second half (B1G schedule) of this upcoming season then this team has some serious Line and RB coaching issues that would need to be addressed in one way or another. Young, inexperienced line or not you must be able to run the ball on a consistent basis. Negative yardage is not acceptable against anyone let alone teams that are not very good at stopping the run throughout the season.
I think two of the last things one can tell from tape are smarts and toughness.
Might indeed be roast-worthy...It would help if you shared your reasoning, but regardless saying waaaaay better is really premature at this stage based on HS film and what's on paper.
Go Cats.
Weber coming here would be great! Kid is a shorter back, but is explosive.
The only thing that really concerns me is he and his father's relationship with Curtis Blackwell, they are reportedly extremely tight, more like family than just close friends. Weber has said he's known Blackwell as like an uncle all his life.
Unfortunately, I don't think we're getting Harris, but oddly enough, most of the Ohio fans on the web seem to like this Scott better than Harris, maybe because he's the local kid. Either way, little brother seems to have gotten a decent player, wouldn't take him above Harris, Isaac, or Derrick Green, but he and Weber are near to the same level of player.
I have watched Scott play in person. He is from Hubbard, Ohio which is about 10 minutes from where I live. I coach high school football in western, Pa, and went to watch one of his games on our bye week, and that dude can play. I have seen a lot of good running backs over the last several years, and he is the best one. I've watched some other D1 running backs in the past and Scott, imo, is the best of the bunch. Im not including guys Ive seen on film, just one's I have seen in person.
I know there have been some rumblings about his grades, but man he woulda looked good in a winged helmet. Oh well, good get for Sparty. We still have Weber and Harris in the mix, so not all is lost.
Well, that's a little disconcerting. MSU has definitely stepped up their recruiting, and why wouldn't they after the season they had last year, but this hurts us in the loing run if they can pull some top talent from Ohio, it leaves Ohio State to go after other players we want badly (Harris).
The only instate player that is a must get for us is Brian Cole IMO.
Anyone else get the feeling that a lot of recruits are waiting to see how our season goes? Get things back on track and I think we land several of our top targets, struggle and we could see Cole, Weber, and Thompson go to Sparty as well as maybe some other guys already committed decommit.
This season is so damned important, not just for recruiting, but for Hoke's job, for Michigan's image nationwide, and for the future of this program.
I think it is a bit overstated that so many recruits are waiting for UM's season to unfold. You hear in comments now from various recruits "Michigan is rebuilding" or similar and we have about half the class already full. Many of the guys remaining are guys on their own schedule who have stated certain dates in the future.
I think 2013 already turned off the recruits who are not going to consider UM. Other than guys like maybe a Harris I think most are not so focused on if UM wins a game in October 2014 but whether UM is a good fit.
Obviously this is with the caveat the team doesnt look like complete garbage for 2 months.
But we are better at recruiting than them.....means nothing
-signed lost 5 out of the last 6.....
It's nice to have the local kid, but based on the clips I've seen Harris the better athlete and player. But, based on his comments about being good friends with Hilliard and being interested in playing with him, I get the feeling Harris is headed towards OSU. Losing a national recruit to Ohio who was a former UM commit really hurts, but it seems to be trending that way. But, hopefully Scott going to MSU helps UM with Webber. I get the feeling that Harris going to OSU will hurt UM on the field though. I think he's a difference maker...oh well.
Of course I'm a little biased, but every time I hear a kid saying its down to UM and OSU and the kid isnt a life long Buckeye fan I just cannot see how somebody would go to Columbus over AA.
Weber to UM, Harris to osu. 2015 three headed monster of Isaac, Green, Smith....Murder ball with Weber waiting in the wings with a redshirt
Unless the OL improves dramatically, the only people getting murdered are our own RBs and QBs.
There must be improvement in 2014 and dramatic improvement in 2015. There simply must be.
Is Murder Ball related to "Manball" I read on every thread from 2012 and 2013 about the 2014-2015 teams? Or is it a higher level of manball?
for Harris. Homestate kid - lots of loving from the fans. Probably lots of playing time early. Best conference in the country. With the feeling he's not coming to UM, I would love to see UK pick him up. And, of course, Saban still has his snake oil in the back pocket if need be.
That may very well be the case, but I would think they'd be encouraged with the Nuss acquisition. I don't think RB recruits in recent years have questioned the Nuss coordinated Bama running game. We are a couple years away from Bama's talent/depth level, and it will be a newly implemented system, but we should see dramatic improvement over last year (low bar, I know).
If we do not exceed mediocrity in a couple years, it would be a very strong case against Funk's player development ability.
Best of luck to Mr. Scott. OSU also lost out on OH ATH/LB/RB Jerome Baker, who committed to Florida. He was 78% to OSU on 247. Local radio already spinning that Urban will flip him by signing day. Friday rules!!
