Ohio linebacker to transfer to Harvard to play school.
Sophmore linebacker Luke Roberts was a 3 star out of high school when he chose Ohio, and now is choosing to leave Columbus for Boston. Link below:

"...just the kind of person I am, and the teammates I would have, and the area I would be in." In other words, I'm motivated, my teammates are kind of meh at OSU, and Columbus is weak. Tell it like it is, Luke!
is a good one.....
Also says he declined a full ride from UVA? Ivy league doesn't give out athletic scholarships which means he would have to pay his own way...
harvard has pretty generous financial aid, depending on his situation. probably worth paying out of pocket or loans for harvard
My experience in hiring from Harvard, Yale and Princeton is 50/50 at best. The problem being that the down side 50 are really a down side. All the ivy league attitude and absolutely none of the skills. So, while I get your point in terms of reputation and connections, I think the actual education is overrated. Now MIT......different story.
Well, then who gives you an underrated education? You will always find underperformers at any school, but in my experience the Ivy's produce more than their fair share of high-achieving individuals.
Probably at first was like, "Whoa, Urban Meyer" and now is probably like "Ewww, Urban Meyer".
My sister-in-law is a crazy OSU fan but was not excited at all by the Meyer hire. She was a student assistant of some sort at Bowling Green when Meyer was the coach there and she can't stand the guy. I have tried to get stories from her but she won't spill the beans.
Tell her the people of MGoBlog must know, then I'm sure she'll cave
Ohio is in Athens, OH.
Yes! Go Bobcats. The kid is from Lancaster, OH though, so technically the OP is correct.
Edit: My mind is already on vacation this week! There is another connection. I forgot to mention that Ohio (YTO) is affectionately referred to as ...
And, being my second home, if you ever get to visit Athens, you will not regret it. It is an awesome campus and a really good time. In regards to Luke -he probably would have seen very limited playing time in his career so he gets to go play football and get an ivy league education- nothing at all wrong with that. As for OSU, it opens up a scholarship so this is one of those nice win-win situations for everyone involved.
Thanks!
Great kid, I wish him all the best. And because Harvard is FCS, he doesn't have to sit out a year. He gets a Harvard education and (probably) more playing time.
Honestly, would you guys blame a third string UM player for transferring to Harvard?
obviously UM to Harvard is a much more lateral transition academically.
I keeeed, I keeeeed....
"“Even though the football obviously is different from the Big Ten, and though I had opportunities to transfer to another BCS school, I just decided that wasn’t what I looking for this time around." - Roberts, quoted in the ESPN article
He said in the Columbus Dispatch article that, after being in Columbus for a year, that it simply wasn't what he thought it would be, and that coaches harbor no ill will towards him or the decision to go. Then again, anyone who says Harvard is the perfect for for them and gets the opportunity to go there should be just fine, football and beyond. Good for him and best of luck to Roberts in this new chapter.
One of life's lessons is that sometimes it's important to recognize a change in course is needed, and to make the change and follow through with it.
Going to Harvard is not something someone does on a lark ... so it's clear he's given thought to this and taken the necessary steps to make it happen.
So good for him all the way around!
I envy him living in Boston ... provided he can afford it. It's a wonderful city. Perhaps my second favorite major U.S. city after Chicago.
Harvard has a whole different style of tatoo.
I was curious if Roberts' transfer might have any impact on current OSU OL commit Kyle Trout since they went to the same HS (in the city where I work FWIW). I came across this interview prior to Trout's commitment and I have to say he had the strangest description of an "non-commitable offer" I've ever read.
Ozone: What is a non-committable offer?
Trout: My dad read on a website it is like a kiss from your sister. It is a cool thing but you can’t do anything with it. It is like “Hey we are really interested but you can’t do anything.”
Recruiting is like incest? His dad must have read that on 11W.
Any impact as in will he rethink his commitment? Trout has been one of the strongest voices of this year's recruiting class and has accompanied many recruits on their visits to OSU and has been actively recruiting as well. I don't see this as having any impact at all. BTW- did you go to OU or just support them because you work in the area now?
Harvard is in Cambridge, not Boston
I'm guessing maps aren't your thing.
