Ohio changes reference to Michigan game

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

Per a tweet from Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ohio has changed the schedule on the wall to something with a little bit of a Brady Hoke-ism. This is the kind of stuff that makes the rivalry fun IMO...

@PDBuckeyes In OSU team meeting room for #SigningDay, schedule on wall for 2012 lists "that team up north" instead of Michigan.

I think people misunderstand this a little.  I don't think Woody Hayes called us "That School Up North" specifically to insult us, but just to show how big this game was to him.  Likewise, I don't think Hoke tries to demean OSU by calling them "Ohio."  Again, it's more about him demonstrating that that game is on a different level.

We have their attention. If they still refuse to buy gas in Michigan, that's fine too, only they don't have to push their cars over the border, they can leave them behind and get another "loaner" from a booster.

A) You're tight. They misquoted their own legendany coach.

B) It was a Freudian slip. They said team instead of school because they don't think of their program in terms of academia. They see it as it is, a bankrolled semi-pro team.

Haven't they been referring to us this way for a long time.

Besides, refusal to say the name is tantamount to fear of saying the name....a la Voldemort.

*This of course does not apply to Hoke's reference to "Ohio," as this misidentifies them.  Insert additional M logic here <    >.

this is awesome.  back to the days of woody hayes and bo.  anyone that thinks this is a copy-cat tactic does not know their history of how woody would refer to Meechigan.

I'm digging it. I've always liked "Ohio" much more than "that team down south," so I'm glad Hoke is using it exclusively now. They can take the second name, I don't really care.

Does this make MSU (also on their 2012 schedule) "that team up north and to the left slightly"? Urban is trying to rekindle the Woody Hayes fire and the spirit of "The Ten Years War", it seems, because I swear we've been "that team up north" since at least the 1970s. I find it interesting that they would attempt to fire back at the "Ohio" reference, although not at all shocking that it is appropriated from a previous regime and not terribly imaginative.

I wonder if the first suggestion in the  room was, "Why don't we just call them 'Michigan'? Oh wait..."

In all honesty, I hope that, on 11/25/12, they refer to the game as "season-ending loss".

Masterful work by tsio's geography majors. They finally pinpointed the cardinal direction from where cans of whoop-ass fall. Most likely got help from the meteorology club too.
