Ohio changes reference to Michigan game
Per a tweet from Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ohio has changed the schedule on the wall to something with a little bit of a Brady Hoke-ism. This is the kind of stuff that makes the rivalry fun IMO...
@PDBuckeyes In OSU team meeting room for #SigningDay, schedule on wall for 2012 lists "that team up north" instead of Michigan.

that's not even catchy or insulting....I mean just look at the map we are "up" north compared to ohio. stupid buckeyes
February 1st, 2012 at 4:12 PM ^
Neither is "Ohio." Anybody who gets upset about either one is a sucker.
February 1st, 2012 at 5:34 PM ^
Should be great the first two times it is used in an interview and then they forget about it. What about landing on scUM (makes me think of spoon!) since that will play to their base and just getingt the whole thing over with now?
February 1st, 2012 at 5:39 PM ^
I think people misunderstand this a little. I don't think Woody Hayes called us "That School Up North" specifically to insult us, but just to show how big this game was to him. Likewise, I don't think Hoke tries to demean OSU by calling them "Ohio." Again, it's more about him demonstrating that that game is on a different level.

We have their attention. If they still refuse to buy gas in Michigan, that's fine too, only they don't have to push their cars over the border, they can leave them behind and get another "loaner" from a booster.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
Well, I guess it's good they know which direction North is.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
They had U of M on there, but everyone thought it was their coach.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
Too late now they just look like copy-cats (and tool bags).
February 1st, 2012 at 4:11 PM ^
We started it?
February 1st, 2012 at 4:29 PM ^
Obviously that is what Woody called us first, but plastering this on team materials calling us that Team Up North? I'm sure that has nothing to do with all our fans, players and coaches calling OSU Ohio now, right?
February 1st, 2012 at 5:18 PM ^
They both are stupid but it adds to the rivalry, so embrace it. No one here ever stopped calling yinz TSUN or TTUN.
February 1st, 2012 at 5:37 PM ^
are you from Pittsburgh? Being an almost lifelong Clevelander, the only thing worse than a Buckeye fan is a Buckeye fan who is also a Steeler fan
February 1st, 2012 at 6:28 PM ^
Yes I am. Sorry.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:12 PM ^
Then I suppose we looked bad copying MSU's countdown clock? There aren't any original ideas left in the world, everything good is a copy of something.
February 1st, 2012 at 5:11 PM ^
We did.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:17 PM ^
In fairness, they got that from Woody Hayes, not Brady Hoke.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:22 PM ^
Someone knows their rivalry history. Nice.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:56 PM ^
Yea, but do you honestly think they'd be doing this if Hoke hadn't started the "Ohio" thing back up? For the record I do like it. It adds to the rivalry... Well, it would if they had the phrase correct. Lol
February 1st, 2012 at 5:19 PM ^
Truth be told, we never really stopped calling yinz TTUN or TSUN. And, fwiw, the phrases are basically interchangeable.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:09 PM ^
I thought Woody's line was "That School Up North"? Is Terelle Pryor the one writing their history?
February 1st, 2012 at 4:11 PM ^
Urban is a little sketchy on Ohio's history. Notre Dame was his dream school after all... Or was it Florida?... Michigan??
February 1st, 2012 at 4:16 PM ^
Any school with a great program, a large paycheck and discreet coeds is Urban Meyer's "dream job."
February 1st, 2012 at 4:20 PM ^
Pretty sad when random MGoBlog readers are getting it right and it's wrong on the team schedule. Then again, maybe it's best they alter one word to sort of distance themselves from a guy who should have been arrested for assault in the middle of a game.

"THE University of Ohio State"....cracks me up every time.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:28 PM ^
A) You're tight. They misquoted their own legendany coach.
B) It was a Freudian slip. They said team instead of school because they don't think of their program in terms of academia. They see it as it is, a bankrolled semi-pro team.

A) You're tight

HEY FUCK YOU OHIO!!! HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT WE'RE....wait, what?

Early Vegas LIne: That Team Up North -2.5 Ohio

We gave them Script Ohio, Toledo, and now bill board material, Ohio can't do anything for themselves. What next winged helmets? Viva La France!!

we give them nearly all their ideas

Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild the list goes on Ohio....
February 1st, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
Haven't they been referring to us this way for a long time.
Besides, refusal to say the name is tantamount to fear of saying the name....a la Voldemort.
*This of course does not apply to Hoke's reference to "Ohio," as this misidentifies them. Insert additional M logic here < >.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
They have referred to us those way for YEARS. Still, good to know Hoke is in their heads.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:14 PM ^
this is awesome. back to the days of woody hayes and bo. anyone that thinks this is a copy-cat tactic does not know their history of how woody would refer to Meechigan.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:14 PM ^
Ohio, thats really LAME.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:14 PM ^
I'm digging it. I've always liked "Ohio" much more than "that team down south," so I'm glad Hoke is using it exclusively now. They can take the second name, I don't really care.
February 1st, 2012 at 5:41 PM ^
Did Hoke ever call them that? I just remember "That school in Ohio."
February 1st, 2012 at 4:15 PM ^
Hoke is the master troll.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:15 PM ^
"the team, that team, that team up north"
February 1st, 2012 at 4:41 PM ^
In team meetings Urban says, "Muck Fichigan and Ann Arbor was a whore."
February 1st, 2012 at 4:33 PM ^
This is all a slippery slope that usually seems to end in the death of a lot of innocent trees.
February 1st, 2012 at 5:04 PM ^
Does this make MSU (also on their 2012 schedule) "that team up north and to the left slightly"? Urban is trying to rekindle the Woody Hayes fire and the spirit of "The Ten Years War", it seems, because I swear we've been "that team up north" since at least the 1970s. I find it interesting that they would attempt to fire back at the "Ohio" reference, although not at all shocking that it is appropriated from a previous regime and not terribly imaginative.
I wonder if the first suggestion in the room was, "Why don't we just call them 'Michigan'? Oh wait..."
In all honesty, I hope that, on 11/25/12, they refer to the game as "season-ending loss".
February 1st, 2012 at 4:42 PM ^
Masterful work by tsio's geography majors. They finally pinpointed the cardinal direction from where cans of whoop-ass fall. Most likely got help from the meteorology club too.
February 1st, 2012 at 4:47 PM ^
This isn't new, but it looks like they are going back to this in response to Hoke...good to see some emotion back in this series

February 1st, 2012 at 4:52 PM ^
Why do you guys think that team was Michigan? I thought that team up north was a reference to national power MSU.
