OH CRAP!!! Columbus Radio embracing the Wolverines
I listen to the fan 97.1 a lot, here in cbus and usually they do a lot of Michigan bashing. However, today on two separate occasions they were giving gratuities to UM. Chris Spielman does a little 15 min. show Tuesday thru Thursday and he was telling everyone the team to look out for was Michigan. Then on "The common man and the Torg" (a show that runs from 3-6 weekdays) they had a great chance to bash Michigan. They were talking about the most overrated B1G team and skimmed right over Michigan and picked MSU! They mentioned how MSU was only rated in the coaches poll and if they had to choose a team ranked in both polls, it would be Illinois at 19 and not Michigan at 11 and 12 respectively.
I smell a Columbus conspiracy!

I hear Michigan jerseys are selling in Ohio. That's a good sign...

boo! no paraphrasing, copy and paste of GTFO

I'm a cliffs notes kind of guy.

Potato salad!

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
Hoke really seems to be changing the tide in this rivalry...
October 5th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
In some parts, yes, but we all know he has to beat Ohio first. I think they will do that this year, barring significant injuries on our end, but he has to win...and not just one game then lose the next. We need at least a three-game win streak to really say the rivalry is turned around again.
I like our chances.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
wut? me thinks you missed the meme
October 5th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
Lol I even got beat on the joke too...

Please go here before you respond again.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
Thanks for sharing.
While you're at it - why don't you share why you are a Michigan fan that lives in Columbus. I never understood that (there seem to be multiple people on this board in the same situation).
I can *sort of* understand if you grew up in Ohio, specifically in the Columbus area. But if not... why? You do know that you can quit your job and find something in a more manageable city... right?
October 5th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
You do realize all of us don't work at taco bell, right. I live in cincy, and have a great job that I would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Luckily, cincy is not a hotbed for buckeye fans.
October 5th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
Yeah, that's why I said "Columbus".
October 5th, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
You're better than people who work at Taco Bell.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
Thread has both "Wolverines" and "OT" in title. Does not compute.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:55 PM ^
FIXED
October 5th, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
Ohio radio is trying for the "reverse jinx."
October 5th, 2011 at 4:52 PM ^
The intentional reverse jinx never works, it is always rebounded back on to the person/team attempting such a move.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
much like the old 'i'm rubber you're glue' trick
October 5th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
So, by not mentioning Michigan, they're embracing us? Weird.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:52 PM ^
I think Wilford should be the next "My hemroid's are killin' me" guy on horseback.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
but not as overrated. They actually went in order and said that Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska were fine. Then they got to Illinois and MSU and said they were overrated.
October 5th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
These are selling like hotcakes right now in Ohio, and that's a good start!!
October 5th, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
OK????
October 5th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
Tide-turning, even

until I can pick up Beckmann and Brandstatter on Saturdays on 97.1 THE FAN.

Up here in Cleveland there's a sport talk station WKNR 850am. Yesterday from 5:30pm to about 6:00 they had Kirk Herbstreet on who absolutely BASHED this version of the Buckeyes for 30 minutes. He said it didn't matter who played QB right now cause the O Line was "gutless". He went on to say that if he was coach he'd "lock every O lineman in a room and have them fistfight". The five that remained standing he'd put in as starters as the remainders were absolute wussy's and didn't deserve to wear the scarlet and grey. The hosts didn't say much as Herbie absolutely pummelled the players, the schemes and the coaching staff.
It was wonderful.
October 5th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
He is on here in cbus too, but I missed him this week. It's funny though because the radio guys are trashing the team and the fans are trashing the coach. I think the biggest problems are the O-line and the lack of a capable QB myself. Oh well, it's great to be a Michigan fan!
October 5th, 2011 at 5:38 PM ^
For Detroit-area alums of a certain area, the call letters WKNR will bring back a rush of memories.
EDIT: "certain age", not "certain area".
October 5th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
what happens in Ohio. Leave it be.
October 5th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
Remember when Drew Sharp predicted a 9-3 year going into 2008? He got the numbers right at least, if not the correct order. Anyways, that was more optimistic than anyone else and I figured at the time he was doing it so that when Michigan had a bad season (which I thought at the time would be 6-6) he could write all about what underachievers Michigan was. "Well, this SHOULD be a 9-3 team..."
Argh. It's Columbus radio, why do we even listen to a word they say?
October 5th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
Was calling out Pryor on twitter today after Pryor ripped Torg's show on twitter. That's always fun.
October 5th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
People in Ohio really ARE starting to believe it!
October 5th, 2011 at 6:36 PM ^
Has me calling out for the reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse jinx.
When the idiot at 6:00 (Neff? Neft? Bereft?) says something nice about the Wolverines, then I'll really be nervous.
October 5th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
does not surprise me Spielman likes Michigan ...after all Michigan was his top choice till dad made him go to that school in ohio
October 5th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
Spielman has publicly said he dislikes Michigan. He's a very good announcer but he is not pro-Michigan.
October 5th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
Google Spielman's recruitment and he has said consistently that his choice after visiting Michigan was to play there. But, when he got home and told his dad he was told that he would be disowned.
October 6th, 2011 at 7:37 AM ^
Yes, I saw Speilman talk about this once. His Dad told him that if he went to Michigan, that he would not ever be allowed to walk in the front door of his home again. "Thanks for some love and understanding Dad."
Yes Speilman is an OSU grad, and roots for them in the game, but he isn't an unthinking homer like some fans are.
October 6th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
Referring to Michigan he said:
"I love seeing them beaten down, man. It's great," Spielman said.

on all the radio stations in Columbus, especially 97.1, always talking about what a great hire he was for U of M and how the tables have turned.
October 6th, 2011 at 8:13 AM ^
I heard Jim Lachey call Michigan State just "Michigan" several times during the radio broadcast last weekend. He said it several times in a row and even after the other anouncer said Michigan State. I didn't listen to the entire broadcast but it seemed like he was trying to copy the Brady Hoke "Ohio" thing. Either that or he just has us on the brain. Must be lonely in there.
The Common Man and Torg are probably the least OSU homers on that station. Neither are from Ohio and I think they just root for the team for professional reasons or they really care about the team and they aren't afraid to speak the truth.
