Offseason Review (Calling all note-takers)

Submitted by markp on

I just read that a third Alabama player (OL Taylor; DUI) has been arrested this off-season (yikes!) and it got me thinking about Michigan's offseason.

Does anyone have a good summary of what's happened since the Wolverines bludgeoned the Gators in January?  That would obviously include recruiting, admin hires,  transfers, announcements, off-field incidents, etc.

Off the top of my head:

  • Butt, Lewis return
  • Top-5 recruiting class
  • Hackett to Manuel
  • Switch to Jordan (in a few weeks)
  • Green to TCU

I'm sure I've missed plenty.  What else?  What's your favorite thing that's happened this off-season?

I feel like many of these posts border on Haikus.

Mustache will teach D.

Harbaugh taught throughout the world.

Drake's steel. Hail Jordan.

Edited to include Don Brown hire.

Would think resumption of ND/UM series is at of near the top w/the attending controversy on whether on not we got hosed as to the scheduling.

Nice Collins, top player in Bama, could be the first real big get from that state. The unexpected commits from the young man from OH(Taylor) and two from GA(Solomon and Reese(?)). O'Samuels suddenly appearing on the nation's radar and UM being there to sign him quickly. Kid has a chance to be special.

Rutgers declaring war on Michigan. UM seeming - not yet to be determined - re-establishing itself as the no. 1 choice for in-state schools. Thomas's decision will go a long way in that area. Jim having another child. Wheatley being named no. 1 recruiter. Lots of excitement over Don Brown hiring. Rashaun Gary making it official, of course.

A real qb battle with neither O'Korn or Speight - and he could be a story unto himself - seeming to be neck and neck. Isaacs re devoting himself to football could be big. These are just a few. The girls losing early in softball, but another great season.

  • Mone returns full-go for Spring, plays well
  • Glasgow reportedly full-go for Fall
  • Chesson hurt in that bowl game, reportedly will be full-go for Fall
  • Mo Ways hurt in Spring, not sure of status
  • LB McCray healthy and looks good in Spring; Devin Bush arrives
  • Peppers moved SAM (these last two bullets alleviate huge concern pos Gator Bowl)
  • O'Korn co-wins Manning camp award
  • Cole moved to center and looks good in spring, Newsome looks pretty bad at LT
  • Rashan Gary arrives, which I know is included w/in top 5 recruiting class but let's say it again
  • Tyree Kinnel looks pretty good at safety in spring
  • Stribling named "set in stone" starter at CB by Harbaugh during spring
  • Sam Webb gut feels Gary-Wormley-Glasgow-Taco as starters, then Marshall-Hurst-Mone-Winovich
  • Above means Marshall exists and playing viably; wherfore Godin?
  • All of the players named to all of the watch lists

No injuries, no bonehead arrests, no transfers that (hopefully) were unexpected.

Brian Cole left, which was a bummer, but other than that, it's been a quiet offseason for this team. And that's a very good thing.
